So what all does everyone want to see changed or added in the upcoming patch? I haven't played D2 in a while, kind of anxious to start again with this new patch, but some things I wanted changed remembering from the last time I played:
- the toning down of runeword items, there was no diversity in gear anymore because no reare or custom made items could compete with the overpowered runeword items
- some of the synergies made a little less complimentart to each other to help promote diversity instead of the same old cookie cutter builds
- have a toggle of some other controls to be able to make your hirelings or (mercs) not attack specific targets
- and something that's annoyed me for a while, PLEASE OF PLEASE allow the hirelings(rogue and barb specifically) to have their armors upgrade as they level to match up with ours, it's annoying to see my char decked out in gear while their's makes them look like they're still at level one
That's all I can think of right now but what are some things you all want to see added or changed?
Heh, I actually agree with you on all of those.
Though the hirelings are less important, it would be nice to be able to upgrade their looks though.
I'd rather have synergies completely gone, rather than just toned down though.
I'd also like to see rare items make a comeback. Back in the earlier days of the game, they were WAY more important. The most powerful items usually were rares. This made mf way more fun, because rares were much more random than uniques, and were fun to look for.

If synergies were gone we'd be back to the cookie cutter builds we had before. It wouldn't solve anything. It would be interesting to see how everyone would cope with immunes, though.

Good point, but atleast there was a greater variety of cookie cutter builds back then.
After synergies, Blizz basically told you where to put your skill points.
Before them, you could max several skills from different skill trees, and not be missing out on much extra damage that was added with syns.

Yeah, that's true. Hm... They just really help with certain characters, like the Sorceress, whose only attacks are elemental. As it is, if you don't have good gear you need to diversify your points en masse in every element to even hope to damage most of the monsters in Hell, but that makes your spells sginificantly weaker. Synergies give them the extra bit that makes it more manageable.
Actually, I think taking immunes out would be a better idea. They aren't fun, they're just a hindrance and reduce the amount of viable builds.
More rare items and new set items. Runewords gone. Bigger Inventory. More Item selection for buying. Less immunities or more balanced immunities. Mr hammerdine is destroying everything while my lightning sorc is dying from all the lightning resist's. Runes still used like gems. Buffer to some character's. Get rid of synergies.

I am cheese. I am loved by all. I go great with everything. Other foods hate me because I take all the glory. Like Nachos..Their just jealous cause no one eats them unless Im there. Shit..I even ruined broccili's rep. Broccili kept talkin shit so I was like. " You know what?, I think I might melt myself on some Broccilli. See how those humans enjoy that green [sexual slur censored] now." Shit...Now,People dont even touch him, unless Im all over that shit! Ahhh..Its not easy, being cheesy.. Peace. Cheese Out.
More runewords and ability to buy runes from vendors, decreasing chance to find gold, make runes very expensive. This solves the problem of the gold being worthless.

Sheeit Venom, thats actually a really good idea.
It would dispose of the rune economy, and would standardize gold as the new economy in D2, since gold would now be used to buy runes. Rune drops would also have to be decreased though, to make it less viable than using gold.

It doesn't matter how much they decrease rune drops because they instantly get duped and we're back in the same situation. Runes (high runes) actually drop very, very rarely. I've only ever *found* 2 HR's in the eight years I've been playing. If they could fix the duping exploit then we wouldn't have to worry about HR's being too commonplace.
Good point, but if the duping glitches were fixed, and Venom's suggestion was brought in, then we might be able to have a more stable economy, based on gold.

Yeah. I'm not against a gold standard, I was just pointing out that I think the only way to fix HR's in particular would be to somehow fix up the duping exploit(s).
Ah.
I'm not entirely sure if a gold standard would be good for D2 though, would it become just another grinding game ?
Not to say it wasn't before, but before we were grinding for random items, not for gold.
I guess a gold standard would be turning D2 into a "typical grind", not a random one.
Dunno if that made much sense, but I hope you get my point :/.

Huh, just noticed that I'm basically arguing against my earlier posts...

No, I get what you mean. Like, whereas before we would grind MF for an HR, all of which were different and were useful in different ways, some more than others (and I'm not just talking about Runewords- people Ber stuff for the DR and Ist stuff for the MF, just to name two), in this we would just be grinding for gold and all the spam bots would just be selling gold instead of HR's.
Gold could be a little better, though, because everyone would have access to it. And, when you duel and die, gold would be more of a prize than it has been in the past
Well hopefully Blizz will work towards getting rid of the spam bots, sounds like they're taking a stronger stance against piracy/hacking and whatnot.
My dad has an interesting conspiracy theory though.
.. Bear with me.
He thinks that these websites that sell stuff to D2 players give Blizz "protection money" to allow them to continue to use their spam bots, and to sell their stuff without being shut down.
Odd theory, but the more I think about it, the more I think it may be possible.
But anywho, back on topic.
We could still grind for uniques atleast, they won't become any less valuable. So I guess if this system was brought in, we'd have like a hybrid mf/gold grind ?
Come to think of it, that would actually work quite well.
(Ugh, there I go again, arguing against myself....)
Haha, true, duels will actually mean something :D.
But we'd still have people screaming "NO GS !!"
Even moreso if gold was standardized as currency.

You know what? Then both MF AND Gold Find modifiers would be good modifiers. Everytime I think about it, a gold standard seems better and better. I also think, though, that Uniques had a good drop rate and should stay the way they were.
However, I think Sets should get a bit of an overhaul, and I think they should add more (possibly higher-end) for each character.
Currently, the only Druid and Assassin ones suck. Level-wise, they're for higher characters, but by the time you can wear the last peace it sucks in relation to where you are in the game.
I think we should have at least one set specifically tailored for each character for the very low levels, for the mid levels, and for the high levels, and then another that's even better but much harder to get (on the difficulty of finding HR's, themselves), but it should still be equal with other items so that it isn't the only thing being worn.
I also think more visual affects for Sets and even other items would be cool, though, for collection purposes and for something do to besides grind and duel.
Hmm, thats a pretty good point. GF mods were basically useless in LoD, a gold standard would make them actually valuable.
Heh, but who would become the best gold-find character ?
Agreed, uniques shouldn't be touched. The only thing I would want changed about them is the lower level uniques, I barely ever saw noob uniques.
And again, agreed. Sets need to be revamped. Eastern Sun kinda did this, they made them way more badass and actually viable as equipment on a character.
Set collecting was a complete bitch in D2 though, you're right, whenever you had all the set pieces it was usually outdated and shitty. One exception could be Sigons, I loved that set so much ^^.
Theres the set page for ES, check out how they handles them. They've got a generic class of sets for every character, then specific sets for specific classes. The sets for classes all had "intervals" spaced apart at the same level amount, for example, every character had a set for level 1, 16, 30, 45, and so on.
While I would like to see an aesthetic change for sets as well, I don't think it should take priority over revamping the gameplay itself. But hell, if they've got time and manpower to spare, have at it.

Yeah, low level Uniques shouldn't be nearly impossible for low levels to find. I shouldn't have to find them on my level eighty. And I loved a lot of what was in ES, so, no worries
one of the best parts of d2 though was trading items for items... it gave a like midevial feel to it... like people trading weapons for armor and vice versa... it gave the game a completely different feel than many other games because your trading substance for substance instead of substance for currency... (yes i know sojs and hrs were currency but you could use them in many various ways)... idk what do you think... i think that having gold would actually push costs down because ppl would just buy and sell stuff at random for whatever gold they were offered... if you have enough gold u can buy anything... just kinda lame... too easy to get noobs good...
