I know this is a very popular topic both on the real forums and here, and it's almost just like talking about politics and religion at work.
You just don't do it and you're safe but the moment someone brings it up all hell breaks loose. Well Here I am about to be that guy --
The real issue here is that I think I understand what the people are intending to say and I just hope to say it a more tactful way that wont be as easy to pick on because to me it makes perfect sense.
Currently in D3 we are intended to have a buff to the drops, a 100% double loot weekend!!! however, the real issue here is that it just doesn't truly feel that way, which is why I think people will be upset when it leaves. The premise around playing Diablo 3 is that you play it and you should feel that your time is rewarding, i'm not saying that you play and OMG Tals every other kill and OMG WOWZ I just got 4 legendaries to drop on this one elite HAX!! I PWN!
However, that's just it, it's not that way, even with a double loot weekend, (which is still not expected nor am I implying I want it to be that way) I think most of the community can agree it's still not OP, in fact I have yet to find an upgrade over this entire weekend... nor am I in end game gear.. Which in lies a lot of players frustration... sure I have had a few forgotton souls to pile up, and sure I have definitely found some more legendaries than normal, but nothing that screams omg slow this train down! It feels good, previously I have been on a break from playing the game because I just simply felt like my time playing the game didn't feel profitable any longer. I felt like I could play an entire evening and the one or 2 legendaries I may find were more than likely going to end up as souls and once again i'd go to bed playing a game that just was endless rift grinding. Which okay yes thats playing the game "if you don't want to play the game to play the game and you just want upgrades go play something else" well thats the point, if you are to argue that finding gear isn't the point to diablo you obviously didn't play any of the classic diablo's this game was all about the loot. and honestly still is, if I wanted to play the game to kill monsters I'd be over it by now, thats just the truth.
What everyone feels is that the loot is in a better place and even though I haven't found an upgrade, I have that hope that it's right around the corner. It's currently keeping me motivated, and that's the point... No Tals isn't guaranteed at this point, nor should it be, it should still feel good and rare to find tals and other harder sets, but I feel that my next piece of gear should be right around the corner, which was always blizzards motivation, and I think up till now it hasn't been that way. SURE when we all had no loot and rares to replace any legendary was good... now we are all as a community past that point, and all that keeps dropping every few hours are those same turd legendaries, except a few lucky individuals, or those who manage to plow away 8-10 hours a day and overtime find them through pure raw consistency.
TL:DR The loot buff brings back that feeling of your next upgrade is right around the corner, isn't overpowered and for being a special birthday buff should feel OP which only proves that drops aren't in a good place for a game that is based around loot.
The fun is in theorycrafting builds, trying them out; finding gear to compliment them; and seeing the pretty spell effects. Loot is the enabler. Sure I've spent about 30 hours over the weekend hunting for the Akarat's Awakening shield to finish of my Holy build for my crusader; but along the way I've found enough other items to try out a physical biuld; a thorns build; and even a PET crusader build with multiple avatars and Tasker and Theo...
People who play this game just for the loot are not the only people who play this game. Things got a lot more fun since the patch not because of this seasonal buff; but because the changes to rune emenetal types has opened up a whole world of new builds to try out.
It is kinda nice. However, I think the standard drop rate would be fine IF there weren't so many "empty" Legendaries (glorified rares as they've come to be known). The scarcity of impactful Legendary items with true legendary affixes are too far between.
Essentially; I don't think it's the rate, per say, rather it's the high percentage of dysfunctional loot that's the culprit here.

I agree, there is an issue when you can have a character in full legs and still have 0% synergy with a build.

I actually 100% agree with this as well... when I find a legendary with the status quo 6 stats 4 primary 2 secondary, I look at it and just cringe.. what is this??? how is this game changing, once again not on par with what Diablo 2 was....
I agree, there is an issue when you can have a character in full legs and still have 0% synergy with a build.
Hmm, I'm sure there are some combinations that result in 0% synergy with a build; but I'd lay the blame there on the "player who picks a bad build" than the loot.
Theres not a lot of point in striving to make a fire build if you're getting lots of Arcane / Disintegrate legendaries; until you're farming torment efficiently you make your build on the legendaries you've received; not complain about the legendaries you receive not fitting your build.
Still, I'm struggling to think of a character who could be in full legendary gear and not have some synergy going already. Legendaries haven't been that rare since 2.0, let alone RoS
I'm not even going to bother reading all of these responses fully because all of them are either;
1) I'm not finding enough items
2) I'm finding a lot of junk
3) QQ as usual.
Nobody is ever going to be happy no matter what they do. The fact that people find the need to bitch about a week long buff proves that point. It's a buff to help you find more drops and yet people still complain about it. I don't think I could ever be a blizzard CM because I'd end up just blowing my fucking brains out from reading some of the shit people post.
people seem to forget that the better your loot becomes, the harder it is to find an upgrade. The drop situation is far better than it used to be and yes losing all of trading for the most part was a big problem but the system for the most part is much better than it used to be. Sure there can always be improvements but I mean come the fuck on, what do you want a legendary upgrade every time you log into the game for you to then complain that there needs to be new legendaries or stronger items because you've gotten everything you needed? When does it end?
Sure we all know drops often suck and that some of the affix stats we roll often end up with us identifying a legendary that is full of disappointment, but I'd rather find 50 shit legendaries than be doing with my character in two weeks with full BIS items. Due to the fact that there is no PVP my desire to min-max really can be dragged on for as long as possible.

I'd go back and re read all the posts, they aren't whining that it's not good, and it should be more they're saying that this feels slightly more in line with what the drop rate should permanently be. I tend to agree. Drop the percentage a bit maybe 50% and keep that as the rate. Now when I'm playing I feel like I'm always close to getting a legendary upgrade, before it felt like that could take weeks or months or years even. But the way the buff is working now it kind of feels like there's a bit of a chance that I can get something worthwhile.

This guy is really the source of everyones issues, he jumps to judgement..
I wasn't QQ'ing nobody was QQ'ing, in fact after reading not only others responses here but on the official forums I think I change my stand point entirely..
Blizz needs to get off their lazy uncreative butts and do something about the quality of loot more than the quantity. It's really a quality vs quantity issue. We want more because gear is lacking quailty, however if we had more quailty loot and everything could be used in some fashion you could keep it as it was before, and it would still be good... but instead we find 2h's that are undertuned, bracers, chests, pants, and everything else that are so underwhelming... yes if you have a rare on they are good.... but outside of that this should be starter loot at best and have very little presidence in the game.. not be what you base your entire loot system around with 1 or 2 decent weapon end game items... with a few sets taht are very rarely utilized.... they should have an entire system of fun loot taht you are hunting at creating gear sets after gear sets to help push you in the next direction...
not soul fodder after soul fodder.... and thats what we have.... an entire loot table of foddder outside of those few sought after sets and legs... a handful of pieces in a sea of trash..

Sealed, stamped, approved. I love this game so much, but ruksak absolutely nails it here.

exactly, everyone loves TF and SoH because they are so unique, blizzard tried to do this but got lost on their way...
making items that have some unique efixes but just don't deliver... they just need to stop worrying about breaking this game and make it fun, it's their own fear of striving to maintain balance that is creating a wall for them. yeah they accidently overtuned SoH... so what, people are having fun, keep THAT up. fix things as you go.
The current system is too rewarding. People don't have to farm torment 6. Its an end goal in terms of progression (re: character power). But it should exist as a carrot for the NEETs and others with much more than average amounts of time to dedicate to a video game. Designing the loot system to allow people who play less than 10 hours a week to reach torment 6 within 2 months just means that people who play 50+ hours a week are done in a fortnight.
I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy the buff at the moment; but if it were permanently this generous, there won't be any farming available by June. Why the people who can only play <10 hours a week aren't happy if they aren't in torment 4+ is (in my own opinion) THEIR problem. That is where the problem lies. People are finding loads of GOOD legendaries and label them as "crap" because they aren't Kridershot or Shard of Hate, Calamity of WoWoh.
Honestly, i'd rather have better quality drops less frequent. Rather than awful drops all the time.
And since RNG is a bitch, as we all know. Once you get a nice item dropping, it probably rolls with mediocre stats.
I really wish I had gotten more of the special affix legendaries though, or class set items. But nope, tough luck so far.
Oh well, gotta keep trying.

The truth of the matter is I play... played several hours a night... sometimes way later than I should until 2AM-3AM and had a blast while I was finding interesting things... that ends quickly and stops becoming fun.. it's great that you can have fun slaughtering monsters over and over again.. but that becomes so fun for me when I hit my obvious ceiling and when I go a week straight doing my same hour after hour runs and it stops becoming profitable those 5-6 hour runs turn into 3-4, and then 1-2... currently i've been playing 2-3 hours during this weekend because I have found other things to fill my time and honestly it's been good at this rate... but before this weekend I hadn't played in a week... is that a success??? I end the game not finding any of these sought after items at all? because I can't tolerate 5-6 hours of finding nothing but souls? I can't even reroll my gear because my gear hit it's ceiling from the 400 previous souls I drudged through?

Perhaps you should read what I actually wrote, I said they fall into one of those categories, which the majority of these posts do. But I'm the source of everyone's issues? What the fuck do you people expect blizzard to do, they give you a week long buff for legendary drops, and people STILL complain.
Yes there is a problem with itemization, yes drops could be better, but time and time again all people do (and when I say people, I'm not directing it at anyone specifically, but the community at large) is complain no matter what blizzard does. It is damn near impossible to please everyone and you'll rarely find a thread praising blizzard..and if you do there are 10 others bitching and criticizing them.
Complaining that you're either not finding what you want, not finding enough, or upset with a buff that was intended to only be temporary doesn't solve a single damn problem.
The biggest issues are the ones that float around in every single damn topic around here all the time, which is itemization as a whole, not necessarily the frequency of it as ruksak said, but the QUALITY of it. Itemization is a problem, the drop rate is not.
The truth of the matter is I play... played several hours a night... sometimes way later than I should until 2AM-3AM and had a blast while I was finding interesting things... that ends quickly and stops becoming fun.. it's great that you can have fun slaughtering monsters over and over again.. but that becomes so fun for me when I hit my obvious ceiling and when I go a week straight doing my same hour after hour runs and it stops becoming profitable those 5-6 hour runs turn into 3-4, and then 1-2... currently i've been playing 2-3 hours during this weekend because I have found other things to fill my time and honestly it's been good at this rate... but before this weekend I hadn't played in a week... is that a success??? you say this system is good m8?
I'm not sure what you're really trying to say. If every build you're interested in trying out requires one or two specific legendaries that haven't dropped for you after 300 hours of playing, then I guess the farming game will get boring pretty fast. I have a friend who doesn't play her DH any more because she feels like the only item left for her to upgrade is getting Calamity. Thats not really true for her; but that's how she feels; so I guess you're not alone in that. *shrug*
My main needs an Akarat's Awakening to progress "gear wise" in his main Holy build. But in the mean time I can play any number of other builds from the not-so-rare "crappy" legendaries people are moaning about dropping all the time that I have in my stash from the Akarat's Champion farm on my 2nd Crusader. So I haven't exhausted all the fun I'm having yet; despite being no closer to getting that crusader shield as I was 10k+ blood shards ago and all the rifts it took to farm them up.
Sure; there could be "more" legendaries in the game as possible drops; I just don't have a massive problem with the loot table as it is right now; and if its not a majoirty of legendaries having a niche spot (Read: Orange text affixes) then its not such a tiny proportion as people are making out.
Bearing in mind most builds are totally viable up to torment 3 with crafted legendaries alone; I'm not sure what people are so bothered about?
The current system is too rewarding. People don't have to farm torment 6. Its an end goal in terms of progression (re: character power). you say this system is good m8?
So basically you're saying your level of fun and the success of this game is soley based on you having to find upgrades every single play session? Okay with that look, what happens when you've found everything you want are you then going to complain that there aren't more powerful legendaries or stronger items? I love it. The game has been out less than 3 fucking months and yet you cant stomach not getting and upgrade for less than a day?
With the whole question of "Crap Itemisation" can someone suggest a 'bad' legendary that doesn't have, say, two maybe three 'good' legendaries of the same item type at the same rarety weighting.
In order to have "good" legendaries you have to have "bad" ones; but that doesn't mean the "bad" ones aren't good enough to clear most of the game.
Yes some legendaries are "broken good" These ultra rare "carrots" exist as something for the "plays too much" crowd to hunt for. Nobody "needs" them.

making items that have some unique efixes but just don't deliver... they just need to stop worrying about breaking this game and make it fun, it's their own fear of striving to maintain balance that is creating a wall for them. yeah they accidently overtuned SoH... so what, people are having fun, keep THAT up. fix things as you go.
And since RNG is a bitch, as we all know. Once you get a nice item dropping, it probably rolls with mediocre stats.
I really wish I had gotten more of the special affix legendaries though, or class set items. But nope, tough luck so far.
Oh well, gotta keep trying.
you say this system is good m8?
In order to have "good" legendaries you have to have "bad" ones; but that doesn't mean the "bad" ones aren't good enough to clear most of the game.
Yes some legendaries are "broken good" These ultra rare "carrots" exist as something for the "plays too much" crowd to hunt for. Nobody "needs" them.
