Yeah i agree that the new portraits are nothing but a joke... i mean, add a star every 100 levels? what?I usually don't really care about this stuff but this time around it really is embarrassing.
About armors, well yeah some of the pants / boots / chest peices are not so special but take a look at weapons for an example (or helms / shoudlers just as you mentioned). Each and every one of those has a unique model. Too bad that like 90% of the people playing the game won't use a 2 handed weapon so that's like a big chunk of wasted artwork that people hardly see (only crusaders i guess).
If anything I'm more upset at the shit story line and lack of an ending cinematic. While the changes to the game are nice with adventure mode, this feels expansion feels more like just game improvements that should have been versus a whole new experience.
As a graphics designer, I could have made 8 completely different portraits for each 100 levels using different character models both new and old within the timeframe of less than an hour.
The he kicker is I'm only one man, they have an entire team. Lazy does not even begin to describe this.
Yea, the new portraits definitely don't seem like typical work for Blizzard. The 1-100 ones are much more interesting and these newer ones lack creativity and originality. I hope they fix them or update them :/
Now that i see it in game it looks kinda ok i must admit
Like what did we expect? Different colors for every 100 levels? then people would bitch about being stuck with one color for so long and not being able to change it blah blah... So i think it's cool

It looks fine, really. They can't go OVERBOARD because there's only so much space in which to work.
If all they did was alter colors the forums would be ablaze with "OMG I COULD RECOLOR THAT TEN TIMES IN FIVE MINUTES BLIZZ SHOULD FIRE THEIR ART GUYS AND HIRE ME."
Nothing will ever be good enough. Ever. The new portraits don't blow my mind, but I wasn't really expecting them to.
I agree that the addition is rather on the lazy side, but I can understand them not wanting to spend too much time on new portraits. I do think that the stars look out of place though.
Aesthetic issues like this don't bother me, really. I get the point though. The effort seems too little and almost begs as to why they would even mess with it at all if that was the only idea they had.
I suppose some players need their ego stroked by subtle changes in imagery to their UI.
This was a player demanded aesthetic. Give Blizz some props for including yet another player suggested tweak. Hopefully they'll think of some way to sate their picky fans with some kind of over-adorned, bedazzled, glowing portrait to stand as a constant reminder to players that they play Diablo 3 far too much.
My suggestion would be for the portrait to grow every 100 levels. Eventually, the entire screen will be filled with the glorious image of your paragon portrait. At this point, you win Diablo.
Okay so you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's lazy. What did you expect exactly? There's very little space there to work with. I thought it was already overcrowded. The silver borders were the best looking ones IMO.
They're keeping with the theme they had going, which was a simple addition at each unlock. If you look at all of the borders from the first ones all the way up to the new ones, you'll see that there are very subtle additions to each with the most prominent change usually being a color change. They're already crowded, how much shit do you want crammed into that one little space?
Not sure if this will help at all, but i just created this post http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/12472337211#1
at the official RoS forum. Like if you agree, maybe it will help ;-)
Comment at the official forum please below my post, in order to get maybe some attention from Blizzard

That's my two cents anyway.
