I picked these skills for my barbarian with the focus on AOE dmg while still staying alive in hell/inferno PVE. While there is some lifesteal built into it, their would be a mix of lifesteal/defensive stats on my gear also.
My brother, my friend and I, are going to co-op through inferno; so we have the following classes:
Wizard (Me), Monk (Brother), Barbarian (Friend).
As you can understand any theory crafting at this point is highly diminished by the lack of knowledge we have.
As such any builds we devise now, will only be base types and even then synergies are unknown to us; many
variables such as 'Chance on critical' that are included in effects such as Critical Mass or Battle Rage's Into the Fray rune,
could be anything from 1% to 99%, this lack of information is detrimental to almost all builds made at this point.
This being said, here are the three main builds (we all know that currently we will switch between multiple builds depending on the circumstances). These builds are mostly general and were made with assumptions.
This build is aimed at providing sustain (Healing), situational damage reduction and moderate to high dps.
The mantra used is dependent on gear and scenario.
Wave of Light (Pillar of the Ancients) is a high damage spirit dump preferably used for single target; can be swapped with Cyclone Strike for trash pulls with Wizard AoE.
This build takes the role of being the damage soak with taunt/revenge, maintaining moderate dps.
War Cry will depend on spell damage in take, resistances from gear, etc (may replace with regeneration)
Ignore pain for situations of high damage intake (Coupled with Relentless it will be hard for the Barbarian to be taken down quickly - not to be used at the same time to avoid diminishing returns)
The purpose here is to be highly mobile - able to kite bosses without taking any direct damage via use of Fracture, Mirror Image and slows - coupled with team mates; while dealing high sustained damage and lowering utility CDs with critical (pending actual 'chance on critical')
There are many variations of the build - this current one is highly dependent on critical mass.
A more practical build controlling the area with Blizzard and meteor within. Using Slow Time for damage / projectile defense.
An in-between build using mirror images to 'distract' mobs during kiting - can be swapped with 10% damage rune.
Well thats all I've really done with theory crafting for this patch, I will go through individual builds based on itemization, scenario and all other variables once I get the chance. We will see the running theme where people won't be able to carry ALL the gear for every possible build; you may have one or two sets, but changing over every single boss may become a hassle.
Theory crafting is half the fun, but its a bit of a messy field, when you can change the build at will (despite items being the main influence over your character paired with skills)
yo, yo, check this out! I'm the one fisted, the only one fisted barbar in all the world! Skills are for cowards of the cowardly type and so are weapons and armor. If you wish to even stroll with barbar the once fisted, robert redford classic of kings, hot chocolate, MIXED DRINK, scroll no further. barbarprise, we'll pick you up.
This is my barb tank build. I have always enjoyed playing tank classes in games and barb was my favorite in D2. Plus I will be playing through the game with my fiance who isn't very good at games and I want to soak as much dmg as possible!
It's based around AOE attacks to clear big packs fast, while having a few perks for stronger enemies that require some single target damage.
If you want more AOE output at the expense of a strong ST/weaker AOE you can change the Cluster Arrow device with Multishot.
The build I'm going to use for my wizard is a arcane-focused leveling build. Mostly for softcore. It primarily uses magic missle, augmented to regenerate arcane power, and secondarily will be using arcane orb since you can shoot it through enemies with one of the runes, which means it'll let me clean an entire line of enemies. After that it grabs some armor, a familiar (for a bit of added damage and increased damage of my abilities) along with a big damagy beam for single target and arcane torrent which increases arcane damage taken.
Just for a brief explanation, I’m going to get to HC as soon as possible, however, I still want to play smart and get accustomed to playing monk up until then so I am planning out my build in stages as far as what/if to pick as they unlock. I thought it would be useful to see some non-endgame builds so I’m posting my end-normal build, or the build I’ll likely be building towards at level 30.
The build:
I’ll be using Crippling Wave-Mangle (while waiting for my cooldowns) dealing nice damage along with a nice MS/AS reduction which, along with Resolve, will reduce the incoming damage. Blinding Flash-Blind and Confused will be my CC to help out on large groups, and Seize the Initiative for that extra armor on the big hitters. When my SSS cooldown finishes I’ll switch over to Exploding Palm-Flesh is Weak (this will also trigger Combination Strike), and I’ll wait to put on my Mantra of Conviction until then to take advantage of the 3sec bonus and then I’ll hit with the big SSS-Sudden Assault for a huge total hit(about 1510%/7h wd). Lastly, I have Breath of Heaven-Circle of Life for the big group heal if needed.
Why I think it's the best?
It gives you a ton of versatility, it prevents you from taking too much damage, and if you do ; your cooldowns are reset, allowing you to teleport away.
You can also deal a ton of damage with this build, most likely what I'll go with
I might switch out Strafe for Rain of fire since it seems similar to multishot. But the build is all about damage. There is single target and aoe damage so that is all covered. Ill just pick up what ever runes I can until I get to the level needed to unlock the ones I want. Once you get level 58, rockets will be spewing out of everywhere.
This will be my witch doctor build when the game comes out, sooner if I get a beta key. =D
This build has nice mana regeneration and is supposed to outlast your oponents while doing consistent damage and snaring enemies around, having Horrify as an emergency cooldown and Soul Harvest to increase the damage. Mana and life regenerating runes have been chosen for the longevity, and to balance potential mana regen wasting the Pierce the Veil has been chosen so you also do more damage, while also having the Swallow your Soul rune for the instant mana regen in case it's needed. Trying this build will only require level 31, leaving plenty of room for improvement on the later dificulties. http://us.battle.net...ZhRW!aYe!baZaaa
I think this build will offer nice dammage and cool cc for the pvp. Passive and rune help me to stay alive during the fight and my skill enable me to chase anyone

PvE build for tanking, that also heal and buff damage to everyone in party. Gear will be Dex\Dodge\Crit mostly to raise dodge and make higher output of monks few rapid attacks. Crippling Wave + Cyclone for aoe, and Crippling Wave mixed with Fists of Thunder + Seven-Sided strike for single target handling. Dual-Wielding ofc, to get more second stat bonuses.
I like that build because - you know, everyone like play dd, and someone there must heal them, and protect
There's a focus on area of effect attacks and runes, as well as a focus on survival. I would pick gear with focus on 1 specific resistance to take advantage of "One With Everything." I believe this build would be effective in grinding as well as pvp

The concept is to keep enemies close and cleave while leaping/chargeing into or out of the fray.

Probably the best pvp build

Main point would be trying to keep zombie dogs out and using the sacrifice skill for damage.
This is just a combination of abilities that I think would be cool.
