Probably resistance will scale with level. As on level 20 you might be having 20 resistance, but with the same amount of int you'd be stuck at 60 with nothing. Wouldn't make sense otherwise. Wizard and Witch doctor not caring about aoe and spells? Seems questionable to me.

seems fine to me as they will be short on armor compared to the other classes..
gives them some buffer from the ranged spells at least..

hypothetically though that makes the build even more viable then.. as I'm sure your pets' resists would do the same or that would be unbalanced.. and you'll have no way of improving that..
a pack of one aoe shot dogs aren't going to be much of a barrier end game..

Most likely pets. Feels uncomfortable to manage them, i know when i first got those wild dogs in beta i instantly dismissed them because they were pulling everything -_-
Also the character itself is quite weak, he has to rely on his pets to be powerful which for many of us isn't attractive.

PS: in beta you actually get a bad impression of WD because he kinda sucks until lvl 8-10.

who says he needs pets? ever played an Affliction lock?
    Shadewalker build:
    http://us.battle.net...RWUQ!Uec!aZYYZY

up to +975INT which is +damage and +.1%resist..
    so +97.5% resist..
    +100%armor...
two of the best CCs in the game and a retreat with Spirit Walk..
+20% damage... +30% to mana cost which is negated by a 30% mana refund
    +20% damage from Paranoia
    and an HP regen!

think you could easily get to a 2000%wd total on spirit barrage

Just for a brief explanation, I’m going to get to HC as soon as possible, however, I still want to play smart and get accustomed to playing monk up until then so I am planning out my build in stages as far as what/if to pick as they unlock. I thought it would be useful to see some non-endgame builds so I’m posting my end-normal build, or the build I’ll likely be building towards at level 30.

    The build:

I’ll be using Crippling Wave-Mangle (while waiting for my cooldowns) dealing nice damage along with a nice MS/AS reduction which, along with Resolve, will reduce the incoming damage. Blinding Flash-Blind and Confused will be my CC to help out on large groups, and Seize the Initiative for that extra armor on the big hitters. When my SSS cooldown finishes I’ll switch over to Exploding Palm-Flesh is Weak (this will also trigger Combination Strike), and I’ll wait to put on my Mantra of Conviction until then to take advantage of the 3sec bonus and then I’ll hit with the big SSS-Sudden Assault for a huge total hit(about 1510%/7h wd). Lastly, I have Breath of Heaven-Circle of Life for the big group heal if needed.

I've made an easy to use build that shouldn't be demanding at all but still help the party out a lot..
keeping the build mostly melee will make it as simple as possible.. so Deadly Reach-Foresight and Crippling Wave-Concussion can be the main two attacks, this starts it off nice with 30%extra damage for 30seconds.. and then reduce the damage taken from mobs near him by 40% for 5 seconds + another 30% from Resolve.. have him focus on just those two skills because they are free and he won't get confused about his spirit running out..

I agree Mantra of Conviction-Reclamation would be the easiest and most useful mantra to have on as it makes healing passive and Chant of Resonance will make the rest of the party not have to remind him to mantra quite as often plus an extra spirit gain.. and also Inner Sanctuary-Safe Haven for when the party needs breathing room and healing.. plenty of healing with those alone for a beginner..

I threw in Seven Sided Strike-Several Sided Strike as the big hitter.. as a simple to use skill that will help out in tough times with 1760%wd total while being immune.. and agree with the group uhoh skill of Serenity-Tranquility nice cheap party bubble.. and Seize the Initiative for the extra armor he'll need on the front lines

keeping him in the front and in the action will keep him playing longer.. if you stick a guy in the back where he gets blamed for not healing properly will insure he finds something better to do elsewhere..

    Quote from deleo

It will be very viable is my bet, however youll need some killing power to get it rolling on some mobpacks. But once its rolling its gonna be funtimes. Golden runestone, or indigo will make it far more interesting either giving you a big chunk of spirit per explosion, this making it easier trying to trigger the next, or spreading the bleed so you have 5 potential explosions ( 5 it was right? )
It is 5 yes, but we aren't sure yet if only the original target explodes if it dies, or if the additional 5 targets also explode.. if they do it will be an insanely overpowered skill as it would deal 180% of the mobs max HP in a huge chaining explosion .. I will still be using it either way for a free 195%wd area bleed which is good enough for me.. and because the explosion damage is based on the mobs HP it will never lose potency as the mobs get harder.. however it isn't the best base damaging skill we have or hit multiple mobs on the base hits like other spirit gens do.. so in the beginning levels it is a fairly slow skill to kill with..

Your main targets will obviously be the mobs with higher HPs.. like the Unburied.. and also ones like Grotesque can be fun since they explode twice.. once for the palm charge.. and then their normal death explosion

it will be a great skill in the later levels especially if you go with fast attack speeds and don't worry about your damage.. the faster the better to get the targets marked quickly.. and the more mobile you are the better your chances of survival for setting the charge and getting out of the pack.. here's an example build

and I'll be changing it soon again thanks to the new update..

I'm going to be playing along side my two brothers (Wiz & DH) so they will need some backup healing/damage mitter..
but this will be my HC build.. I bet my first SC run will be more damage dealer to get through it quicker..

I guess i would call it the armageddon build. It would definetly put out of combat large packs of mobs even at a high difficulty level.

    Armageddon

    - First of all, cast your "mystic allie". Throw in a crippling wave whenever possible.
    - Pull everything in with "cyclone strike". It activates the "resolve" passive.
    - Use "serenity" for a high damage burst. It's effect is improved with increased HP from obsidian "mystic allie".
    - Use "mantra of healing" to regain some health and regen.
    - While the shield is effective from the mantra indigo rune, use crippling wave.
    - Use "inner sanctuary" to beat the crap of anything left alive.

I will definetly try this build out if i see i am stuck not being able to progress at inferno level. It relies upon 30-45 sec cooldowns but it as a great survivability and will definetly reach one of the highest AOE damage burst combination possible.

Even though all this is for naught.. here's another combo just for fun :D

I'm not sure if it would be as much as you'd think as it's a 3 second window to take damage which you are limiting by having skills that reduce your enemies damages.. and also limited by your max hp, no, we don't know what the max will be yet but I'm sure it won't come close to the max hp a mob can have.. with that in mind I would say Exploding Palm would be the highest at 30% of a mob's max hp +395%wd additional damage to mark.. here's the fun part..

with Mantra of Conviction's "Overawe" +74%dmg for 3 seconds
Exploding Palm's "The Flesh is Weak" +15%dmg for 3 seconds
Breath of Heaven's "Blazing Wrath"+12%dmg for 45 seconds
Crippling Wave's "Breaking Wave" +15%dmg for 5 seconds
and Combination's Strike for +8-16%dmg (Exploding Palm and Crippling Wave) for 3 seconds..

so get a second mob with high max to be near your main target(s) and lower his HP down, and start Blazing Wrath>Breaking Wave>Overawe>The Flesh is Weak your main target, then Exploding Palm your secondary mob to explode.. for a completely theoretical and impractical and soon to be changed with the update.. about 90% of the max hp of the secondary mob as AOE... plus the damage dealt to mark all the goodies on the main target..

posted a message on What kind of weapon will you use?
Going to be situation based.. I love dual wielding.. so will try and stick with that as best I can.. but if I find my defense lacking I'll toss on a shield.. however I see endgame being all about spirit conservation and generation so unfortunately I have a feeling it'll be all about the 20% gen from The Guardian's Path two-handed bonus :/

not that any of it really matters as you only visually attack with any weapon on a monk during a basic melee attack

posted a message on Cyclone strike + lashing tail kick (pull and knock)
    Quote from H0w3r

I personally dont think this push-pull thing is going to work that well.I am saying that because the cyuclone strike uses 1/2 of the monks resource just from a single use of it.Add to that another spirit spender and all of a sudden you use cyclone strike, use lashing tail kick and then what? You dont have enough spirit for another cyclone strike....
    Exalted Soul

and to add depth to this combo.. Inner Sanctuary works as a great addition, blocking the enemies from getting "too" close from the Cyclone Strike.. this unlocks the need to get the mobs away again so you can bring more on you using Implosion and also gives you the option to keep them at arms length for fun group attacks like Essence Burn and Creeping Demise

posted a message on Near Death Experience
You haven't convinced me yet.. I do like that passive combo..

but I still think a more well rounded character would be better for pvp.. with huge damage dumping, CC and anti-CC, along with some damage mits.. if you go too far from dealing damage you'll just successfully be the monk to save for last.. the arena fights are going to be quick battles for the most part and groups that help each other out will come out ahead.. like simply using Tranquility.. here are two builds that I see would be more successful in wins:
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#eSTWRU!adb!abZYbc
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#bSjXfU!edX!cbcccc

and for PVE, at least endgame, it's been said you won't get far solo so you won't have the luxury to think about yourself, the monk is the strongest group-helping class there is.. so you'll need to stay back and group damage mitigate, group damage buff and heals.. it'll be expected that you do.

just because YOU can survive a death doesn't help your friends live in most situations.. so us monks need to do our part to reduce the chance of everyone dying in the first place..

I'm still trying to figure out what I did here.. as its very.. chaotic..
parts of it just don't seem fair unless they change all the runestone attributes again before release..

so.. with Slipstream you can gather all the enemies up and get a boost to dodge
Essence Burn them with a fun spreading dot
then with Northern breeze you can just run around and through enemies doing 170%wd and slowing them by 50%.. for free..
with Reclamation you will be healed 30% of the time you hit each enemy

the rest pumps up dodge so you'd equip+crit gear, all resist so you'd only focus on one type of resist, hp buff from the ally, and a speed increase to hurry the process and get out of danger quicker popping your Ascension if things go bad..

posted a message on So, about my girlfriend....
Yaaaa.. man up and spend as much time as you can with her.. games aren't worth it.. and you can't force, trick, request, bargain with her to play a game she's not interested in, they are masters of the turn-around and you'll find yourself doing stuff she wants to do instead, it's harder to balance a game life and a real life if there is transit time so if you're serious I'd say move in together.. most likely she'll get sick of you being around all the time so that she'll want personal time ;) and then you can let her do her thing and you'll have plenty of time to play.. also gives you more time to play at night as non-gamers usually go to bed early.. my fiancee doesn't mind me coming to bed later on because she usually can't get to sleep with me snoring but I don't wake her up with it if she's already asleep! :D so you might try and develop a snore if you don't already?! good luck in any case!

For the record if you re-read all that, I said if we got more fan invites, which we haven't.

For the record I think that post of yours was before the site got the 5 beta keys that eventually were given out in the other contests.. it would have been nice to save the fifth key for the logo contest instead of doing a double key giveaway on the last one.. but I wasn't expecting to ever get a key for the logo contest, I was doing it for the custom user title which I don't see why at least giving that out would be a problem.. ;)

and nobody is saying you have to use the logo of the "winner".. just pick a "winner" and call it done..

Molster just said that you WILL announce sometime later who the finalists were.. so who is correct?
