Back when I played diablo 2 I loved farming for low lvl uniques so I could twink out my new characters I created to try NEW and INTERESTING builds. So If I found a unique wand on my necromancer but it was useless to me at my current level, I would be content knowing I could give it to the next necro I made( maybe a bone, poison necro). Thats just one example low lvl uniques were so cool when they were found. They seemed to have a purpose.
Now fast forward to D3. I can change my skills anytime I want every 15 seconds, I have no reason to EVER reroll the same class (unless I want a difference sex...). So if , for example, I find a really cool low level unique Mighty belt(barbarian only) but I already have a barbarian then this belt is pointless to me...
Anyway, I find it really unfortunate that the replay ability of D3 is going out the window, and the drive to reroll the same class is non-existant. Where D2 felt like it had multiple classes(7 classes x Different builds), D3 feels like it only has 5 similar classes because everyone can do any build they want by waiting 15 seconds...
I am going to miss collecting low level uniques with the hopes of using them for twinks once I have all 5 characters maxed.
Well it's not like it will take an hour to reach level 60. You have to have some exciting drops on your way to max level. They need to flesh out the entire experience after all.
Who says you'll never reroll? Sure it's not mandatory, but you might do it at some point. Plus there is the fact you play through this game with 5 different characters. Gotta have some fun toys to play with.
I think a huge portion of gear is found in Inferno, (I want to say 70% but that's likely wrong) so they're kind of already thinking what you are.
I think people continue to play Diablo 2 today because the game play is fun, not because they're on their 400th re-roll.
I somewhat agree with you, but low lvl uniques still has a meaning for other classes that you haven't played yet. But there is certainly no reason whatsoever to reroll a character in Diablo 3.
I can't comment on your need of re-rolling it's just a waste of personal opinion time. The depth has focused on obtaining end game gear, not re-rolling.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I agree 100%. I am fearful that, with the current skill/runeskill set up, I'll be playing a few of the classes to 60, then item hunt of a few weeks before loosing interest. From what is visible right now, there is 0 depth in the game. What a shame...
I'm pretty confident just from playing with possible builds in the skill calculator that this game has as much if not quite a bit more depth as Diablo 2 had. You could take just about any skill in the game and find a use for it, (because each one fills a unique niche) and that gives you a lot of options for how to build and play your character. I think for the enthusiasts a lot of time in Inferno will be spent experimenting with the various skill combinations to not only find what works the best but also which is the most enjoyable for them.
I don't understand the argument that 'D3 has no replayablity because you don't have to start over to try a different skill.' Being able to change your build doesn't reduce the number of build available, it just means you can try a skill without starting over from the beginning again.
Yes, low level uniques aren't going to be in high demand. You can always try selling them of salvaging them to build new uniques. As it is you can start from scratch 5 times to play every class. If you really want you can do it 10 times, nothing's stopping you. The only difference is you are no longer forced to when you find out your build isn't optimal come inferno.
I'd rather have replayablity in end game content than in doing normal mode over and over in order to get to the end game content.

Sell on the AH...so your saying they are basically meaningless to me. This seems like bad design, if this was the case, no low lvl uniques should exist and should only drop in inferno. Seems like a waste of resources in development to make something that is AH fodder that will be pointless in a few months when everyone has 5 lvl 60's
The thing is, the only reason people kept making the new classes is because that was all there is to do, there was no depth at all in diablo 1 and 2, it was easy and fast as hell to clear the content, so all people wanted to do was mess around with builds for PvP
This is an entirely new game, each character you make will have to be leveled by hand so to speak, and there is much more to do on each character.
So in a sense you won't need to keep remaking character after character, because there will be much more interesting things to spend your time doing.

You assume low lvl uniques will yeild materials to make higher level items. I assure you this will not happen. Dont believe me? Look at the wow crafting system. They never ask for mats you can obtain low lvl to build high end gear.

You could keep it for memento sake... The only reason you kept low level unique in the first place was to give to another char because you had to re-roll, that’s not that great of a design either. I agree that everything is useless let’s be naked till inferno!

seems with the direction the game has taken to make 5 lvl 60's and farm inferno that low level uniques and set items was a waste of developement since no one will want to reroll after they get 5 lvl 60's. I remember using my sigons set at low level then switch it out for other gear. Now whats the point? There is none. If your goign to make a game based around everyone staying at lvl 60(not to mention you can just buy lvl 60's on the AH) 95% of the items in this game are useless unless they are inferno quality.

Low level legendaries are definitely something you will use while leveling up. They're legendaries, they're awesome! I don't think anyone is disappointed to find a legendary at any level. He was just suggesting an option you would have.
All gear becomes obsolete at some point. Even Inferno quality stuff will be replaced by something at some point. It's all just a means to end or perhaps another carrot on a stick.
If you're upset you won't use a lot of low level legendaries because you won't be re-leveling 200 characters, I think that's just another discussion entirely. But, yes, all gear is useful at some point, it's all just relative to your level and power.

Moving all legendaries to Inferno is one idea. Not sure people would like that though.

You obviously have never played WoW; any item even low ones are worth something. Someone out there will want to be twinked at level 15 if they can be.

I am not saying "lets be naked till inferno" but considering the rare drop rate of set/legendary items no one will find enough for them to be useful by the time you out level them. And what happens if I already have 4 out of 5 lvl 60's? , nice I found a legendary... Its useless and will always be useless because rerolling the same class to try a new and interesting build has been cut.
I think, to a certain degree, your question is your answer. You say that you loved twinking out new characters so that you could mess with crazy builds at low levels in great gear, but now you won't ever have to do that because you're not "forced" to reroll characters. I hate to say this, but you were never forced to reroll! Maybe you learned more about the game and realized that you put your stat points in the wrong categories/ratios. Maybe you wanted to spend skill points more wisely. Whatever the case was, rerolling was your choice, and if your favorite part of rerolling was so that you could try out those low-level uniques, what's to stop you from doing just that in D3? Sure, you don't "have" to reroll that Barb just to use all that cool low-level stuff you found, but wouldn't that be a fun reason for doing so in and of itself?
Also, don't forget about the RMAH and trading. Sure, maybe YOU can't use that low-level unique, but that doesn't mean someone else doesn't want to trade you something awesome for it. It also doesn't mean that someone else might not want to spend good money on it twinking out THEIR new character.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.

keep thinking you will be able to use a lvl 5 unique to craft your lvl 60 legendary bow...
They're for people like me who will choose to make new characters instead of respec'ing them constantly. I'll keep to the "this is my build forever and ever, amen" mentality for every character, and I'll want to have twinking gear for a good number of them. I sometimes have more fun leveling characters than I do grinding constantly. To me, the ability to respec at a moment's notice is a possibility, not a requirement.
keep thinking you will be able to use a lvl 5 unique to craft your lvl 60 legendary bow...
Let me know when you come back to reality.
Sigh I've been out trolled.
Seriously dude you don't have many people back in your corner. I never said anything about using an item for crafting, try reading my posts. Not everyone will be progressing at the same time at the same rate, newer players or "casuals" will buy low level gear to fill what gaps they have till they find something. Twinking low levels is possible for PvP as well, yes people will PvP at certain level if they choose to. Just like D2 I sold my low level unique because they weren’t needed anymore, this is no different. Give it a rest.

There are countless posts expressing how bad the current system is when it comes to player choice and commitment. Look around and you will see tons of threads, not just on this website, about people despising the current lack of Build commitment and specialization of all classes with no more then a 15 second cooldown on changing spells.
