While it's really doubtful that blizz has devs looking for content and are specifically monitoring this board to pluck ideas from, I thought it would be fun to have a diablo 3 wishlist thread. I mean actual significant features, not minor things like "bring back gold text" and "I want to play a necromancer". I'll start with an idea I've had for a while now about an possible "Act zero" inserted into the game.
Basically act zero would be an optional and relatively short act (about half an hour at most to clear) that would unlock after you beat the game once, becoming available on nightmare difficulty just before you begin act one. Once again, it would be entirely option to do this act or not.. It would be single player only, and the act itself would be completely different depending on the hero you had chosen.
Basically act zero would be an origin story for your hero. Your character would start out with their stats flattened, but would hike up rapidly through the storyline, reaching your actual level for the last few quests and maybe even gaining a level or two. Your character would essentially be set back to before they went out on the grand adventure that is all of diablo 3. For example, if you were a demon hunter, your act would start in a village being seiged by demons. Your first task would be to escape the demons and survive until rescued by a demon hunter. Over the course of the next half hour, you would learn about the demon hunters and their lore, train in their arts, secure a workshop to construct your first weapons, and then finally go out on your first demon hunt.
The wizard might find themselves back in their mage's academy, sneaking out after curfew, stealing books from the library, defying teachers and conducting dangerous magical experiments until the eventual grand showdown with the archmage which results your leaving the school afterwards (and an unconscious archmage). Act zero would be a break from the usual mayhem and demon slaughtering, and would help you appreciate the history behind your hero and what they do.
Naturally, not everyone is interested in backtsory and lore, which is again, why this would be an entirely optional act.
Sounds like a great idea !
I whould have played the Act zero, since i am a fan of the lore
Even thou a lot of ppl aint interested in the lore/story, even more ppl actually think the lore is interesting.
So i suppose many whould give thumbs up for this
The reality of this happening(even in expansions) is rather slim, but you never know ;)!
When I first saw the topic, I thought, 'oh no, what is this now.' But I must say, this is a really great idea. I love little lore bits like this, and I don't know how difficult this would be to implement into the game, but I think it would be brilliant to see this in an upcoming expansion.
awesome idea,i find it a bit ridiculous that hero appear at lvl 1 out of nowhere on some path leading to tristam, introductory story or act zero would be rly something epic and awesome and doesn't need to be long
I think the idea of an Act 0 is cool, but I'd rather play as a major lore character and get a glimpse of what happened between D2 and D3. Playing as Tyrael and or just getting to go along with him to do whatever he does after the Worldstone cinematic at the end of D2 would be pretty sweet.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
Id like to see the secret greed level actually be in the game /crosses fingers. As long as the secret cow level in D2 but this is more of a cave/dungeon style where you see gold scattered throughout the cave as decoration of course and making your way through and through of hordes of goblins finally reaching the end of this level only to meet General Greed, a hulking sweat ridden goblin ready to die protecting his bountiful chests. I can see him dressed lavishly in gold and jewelry and a crown all shining bright with the gold finish dual-wielding possibly a kings golden scepter and a golden longsword. This General will put up a hard fight but not too hard for the person who has downed many of hells minions.
I like this concept alot. I would prefer to have it occur at the start of normal mode, and not appear in any of the other difficulties, mainly because it makes sense for it to occur in that order. Getting to know the character creates a bond and appreciation for the skills/abilities they will acquire. Certainly better than *poof*, you're a lvl1 one half-naked witch doctor, now go kill some stuff. Unfortunately this idea will never see the light of day, because it doesn't lend itself to an expansion. Too bad, because I would
have liked to see the backstories for all of these characters. Regardless, I'm still anxiously awaiting the *poof* lvl1 half-nakedness !
I thought about having it appear in normal mode, but the problem with that is at level 1 you only have one ability, which means in order to not jack up the intended level progression of act 1, act 0 would need to keep you at level 1 the entire time. It's hard to feel like your character is becoming powerful enough to take on the world on their own when all they have to show for it is one ability. I mean, could you imagine the epic showdown between the wizard and the archmage if all she had was magic missile? Boooring. By having it unlock at nightmare and downleveling your character for the duration of act 0, unlocking levels at predetermined points of the act, your character could start at the weak "I only have one ability" stage then rapidly advance to a godlike level of power fitting for their epic introduction to the outside world.
I think an Act 0 could be cool but I think it would be best used as a tutorial level of sorts. Teach the player to play the game with that and remove the 100 pop ups that show up during game play.

Yes, but you could start all characters with just basic attack and teach them their first ability during act 0.
Act zero would be a break from the usual mayhem and demon slaughtering, and would help you appreciate the history behind your hero and what they do.
I'm sorry.
Did you say "a break from the usual mayhem and demon slaughtering" ....?

Like I said, entirely optional. Some people would really love to take a break from straight up slaughter and learn something about their character, and others would not.

Lore drives this story more than anything else so yeah something like this would be welcomed, by most if not all fans. One of the reasons I hate wow is the story really isn't there, i mean it's there but it's so spread and just not focused, which makes it unappealing to me.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Such a creative idea!!! Act zero seems like it may be harder to do than what i counter with. What about a single character specific quest in each act? The quest can only be activated while in the game by yourself. Your idea deserves consideration... unless it would cause a delay then the hell with u =).
I think this could work well as a small xpac. If it was implemented like this, No one would have to participate if they didn't wish. This would also give Blizz plenty of time to complete this feature. It would also be neat if they separated the lore sections up for small pieces after each act. It would be a story inside of a story :).

this is also a pretty awesome idea. All those little treasure goblins opening up their portal to greed's domain. I mean, I pretty much kill hundreds of things just to grab their gold and loot, if I don't deserve a trip to greedland, nobody does.

I think every class should specific quests alogn the game too. Well, at least we have a unique intro video for each class/gender ;D
