Gsync works on live. It's not dependent on the engine to work. I play lots of older games with Gsync enabled no problems.
It's not a matter of if gsync worked or not its a question of framerate. I think, what i gather from what everyone is saying, is that d3 used to be locked @ 60 fps no matter what refresh rate your monitor/rig supported. With this new change they increased the frame rate allowed making for smoother game play.

That's correct. The game's engine is bound to 60 world updates per second. There's a memory value for that, increasing or decreasing which causes the game to speed up\slow down and go out of sync with the server
Older game engines used to be programmed that way. I was hoping Warcraft 3 (bound to 64 fps) would be the last one I'd see...

They didn't. It was the first thing I checked after downloading the PTR. The game is still choppy when running at 75Hz and 75 fps for example.

Did you try to disable/enable vsync? My 144hz monitor doesn't come till tomorrow so i can't verify yet. Most of the people on reddit are reporting a huge improvement in gameplay. Also try to enable vsync and set your frame rate to 60, see if that works...someone on reddit says it helped them.

Vsync has nothing to do with that. They used to have a built in 60 fps cap which activated when you enabled ingame Vsync, but they removed it long ago. The people reporting "huge improvements" most probably got other issues resolved due to D3D11 or just have a placebo effect.
Setting refresh rate to 60hz and running the game at 60 fps obviously makes the game run smooth because it runs in sync with 60 game world updates. But that is not even the point of discussion. .

Hi,
1440p, 144Hz G-Sync user here. GTX980Ti, new gaming rig I custom built and overclocked in March.
There is a very real, very noticeable difference between the actual frame rate on Live and PTR.
Live claims to be rendering at 200+ FPS, but looks like 30-60. It looks like crap compared to other games, really. PTR claims to be rendering at 200+, and looks buttery smooth and like it's actually at 144Hz (with g-sync there's no tearing). I play other games as well, and I am used to high FPS and refresh rate, and can immediately see the difference between true 144 FPS and much much lower FPS.
You're saying there's no difference or that it's placebo effect.
I'm saying, confidently and with experience, you have no clue what you're talking about and should just stop talking entirely.
I'm sorry that you have had a less impressive experience at 75Hz on whatever computer you have, but it does not, in any way, discount the hordes of people like myself with better setups who can notice a significant improvement.
I played on my xb271hu for awhile, 165hz and everything absolutely was a lot smoother than my old 60hz monitor. Switched to my pg348q, which is a 100hz, and again It's been smooth for months.
However, going back and forth between PTR and live, and it does seem that everything doesn't 'blur' as much with motion, especially noticeable on the edges of say buildings in town as you run back and forth. So yea, something has changed.
Also, wtf, I'm just today noticing that on live AND ptr, there's very apparent 'hitching' every couple seconds. Very annoying.
Edit; Yea, something besides an AA update is there. My guess they might have done this to relieve lag from higher Grifts, because if they did raise the cap then more dots should be able to work together.

I never said "there is no difference". What I actually said and meant was that (many) people who had other issues with the game that resulted in stuttering and overall poor performance now have them resolved thanks to the new D3D11 renderer, which is absolutely a good thing, but has nothing to do with the game engine being designed to work at 60 game world updates per second. You should learn to read and understand what's written before trying to shut other people's mouths.

I guess d3 now supports dx11, gsync, and has updated graphics settings(multisample aa and ssao). Make sure to cap your frame rate just below your monitors frame rate if your monitor supports a higher refresh rate(144-165 hz).

Yep still not seeing 21:9 / 3440x1440 direct support, and using the work arounds is a pain in the ass.
Surprising that the first time I boot up Path of Exile or Grim Dawn they support it and work perfectly.
Just a question...are you guys on the ptr? This is ptr exclusive atm.

I don't know what they did but my FPS has dropped to 12-13 on average. Sometimes shooting up to a massive 16 FPS in game. In menus, I get 21.

side by side comparison of diablo 3 live and diablo 3 ptr running dx11 starts @ ~8 min mark

I noticed no difference at all on r280x and i4790k. The alt-tabbing works differently now though.
