Summons + ranged attacks + damage not based on weapons = OP ungeared toon.
We've known for a while that even casters will need gear to boost the power of their spells (on top of the level scaling we now know about). We'll be seeing +X% magic damage on gear, and probably +Y% arcane damage or things like that.
Wizards and Witch Doctors will depend on gear just as much as every other class will depend on theirs, if I recall correctly. You got me wondering, though : how will summons scale with gear? I'm eager to know how the devs will handle that.
Also, as weird as it may sound, I think the monk might be one of the best farming classes, maybe not on release, but later. We've seen very few of his runed skills and I think we're in for some surprises. He has a lot of defensive abilities, but once we get a good hang of the game, we'll probably start seeing some all-offensive builds.
And I have the weirdest feeling that THIS will be a sight to behold. My money's on the monk.

My Wizard build inspired by Mario Kart items 3 Green Shells / Bananas / Red shell / Lightning Bolt / Fake Item Box / Blue Shell
First I'm gonna go ahead and creating an awesome Witch Doctor and playing through the story with some friends, if I like him, I'm going to farm with this guy! I'm putting my money on the Witch Doctor all the way. Insects eating the flesh of these monsters and then burning the remains with bats! I think the Witch Doctor will be an awesome way to farm with so many skills that spread to attack new monsters. The faster you kill, the more drops you get, the smaller amount of time it takes to clear an area!
I really want to make a "farmer" barbarian. With no more iron maiden crap, and an emphasis on relatively balanced classes, i think it might just be able to work in D3.
Yeah, freaking iron maiden was like a killer for melee classes. They got rid of it, but now the game is kinda broken online so it was like a too late fix on the game. Although, I usually only play casters, I ended up making zealots and a WW barb and it was really annoying going through the Chaos Sanctuary! As long as they don't return that curse in another form, the melee classes can rejoice that they wont kill themselves with that wretched curse!
I'm guessing Witch Doctor or Wizard. Going to go with Witch Doctor, faster mana, ranged, and a pet.
Whe Wizard doesn't have fast mana, range and pets?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the wizard have all of that, PLUS the class has teleport-
I dont think you can teleport through walls anymore, and it has a cooldown I think. Wizard kinda has pets though, like that clone thing he/she can make. Range is up there too. Doesn't wiz use a different resource system though? I don't recall what its called...
Wizard or Barb. I'm thinking Witch Doctor will have the issue of being extremely gear dependent, or just ultimately weaker than other classes, somewhat like the Necro was at certain times.
If I were to play hardcore, I'd consider a witch doctor though, they seem like they'll have many more tools for survival than others.

Wizard's use arcane power or whatever... but why does that matter? It's just a resource system, and i don't think WD's ressourcesystem will be much different from the wizards... so..
also: having teleport is better than having NO teleport at all .. so wizard wins there still.
Wizards have mirror image, they have familiar (a pet) and also an archon (big pet)..
so
Went on the diablowiki, you're right, arcane power and it says it regenerates faster than mana. Just, theres no way to increase it. Idk, Witch Doctor has that spirit walk to get away from monsters, gets him out of tough situations too. Well, I like the Witch Doctor better, he seems like a good break from the normal magic wielder, just like the Necro from D2...
According to the Rune Conference Video, Teleport does not have a cooldown. If it does, it was so short that you really couldn't notice (think zero FCR in D2 terms). Plus if that 'Mirror Image' rune for Teleport goes live, there really won't be a competition in the speed/resiliency of MF runs. If the clones last even a few seconds, it will be an amazing defensive boost for the class.
The other big factor, is that Wizards/Sorcerers in every Diablo have been "nukers", which is basically just a ton of front-loaded damage. They also generally specialize in Area-of-Effect spells. This certainly has the edge over Damage-over-Time or Pet classes as they do not have to wait between kills or for their AI companions to attack the right mobs. With Wizards, it's just point, shoot, loot, and move. Being ranged also gives an advantage over their melee counterparts, as you can just skip over pointless loot or mobs without much more effort then tapping alt.
Well Sorc was best in D2 because she could teleport. I hope the current TP won't be as broken and if that's the case, than I am not really sure what will be the most profitable farming class. Everyone has some sort of AoE and everyone has strong 1v1 skills for bosses...
*Teleports around cow level and rounds up hundreds of cows*
*Teleports in the middle, cows fill up the entire screen*

Come on, everyone admit that this was the most fun MFing experience in all of D2 back when cow runs were all the craze. You just felt like you had infinite power in your character. I hope that there will be an area of D3 where this experience can be redelivered with the wizard.

Mirror image does not have offensive power. Noone knows how the wizard's pet gonna work, but it' problably just an small supportive bonus. I hardly believe an familiar can tank bosses. Archon is not a pet, it's a shapeshifting cooldown skill.
I don't think wizards will be able to teleport and avoid monsters like people do in D2. Blizz will not pass like 4 years designing dungeons, random events and boss for smart ass wizards just ignore then. Won't happen.
And imo the WD might have the edge over the wizard because of pets. Wiz might have the edge against normal monsters but i think the WD will kill bosses faster. Basically because the Wd don't have to kite the bnoss, he just keep resummoning minions to tank it. And we will be facing bosses all the time in D3.
A team of 4 people. MF doesn't change if you have 4 people, and everyone gets their own drops.
I say an infinite thumbs up for this.
I'm glad that you now get your own drops. This ultimately makes it more profitable to fight with multiple people and you don't have to scramble and fight for your portion. Sure it was entertaining at times, but frustrating the rest.
Personally I think any class is going to be viable now. People will have their preferences, but if they're all balanced well enough every class should be able to accomplish it.
I'll likely be trying to farm with my monk. I can't help but think that AOE effects will be better, but we'll see.
I believe each class will have its own niche in the farming world. There is going to be so many build combinations, bosses/places, and stuff that I think there won't be ONE specific farm character like the sorceress was in the D2.
I hope there won't be a superior "farming" class, because that implies that the class is more powerful in some way. I hope the game is balanced enough so that we're not all tping wizards doing diablo runs.

Did you know that no matter who kills the monsters in the area, the % magic find for the drop is based on your character MF? That leads me to believe there are probably some methods that can exploit the 4-player game.
