:evil:I'd like to see Freely Adjustable Stats and Skills this time around.... For ex. If I want to change my MM Necromancer to a poison Shooter then I can return to town and adjust my skills to reflect that. Also as far as stats go Id like to be able to play around with my stats to see what combo is best for a char.
The only reason I request this is that why should i have to play a single char class 10 differnet times to get a good combo of skills and stats when I could just have an interface that i can freely change (only in town).... thank you.
I am glad to see someone bring up this point as I feel it is an important one. The biggest reason to reroll a character in d2 is not about skills but stats. I do not say skills because cookie cutter builds have been around for a long time as well as the ability to theory craft on web site skill trees. The main reason to reroll was about stats in relation to GEAR. What do you think d2 is about? in order to make the best character possible you maximised your saved stats ( through the str bug ect. ) and put them towards dex/life/mana depending. If you get better gear that gives you 5 more stats to dex then thats 5 less then you needed for max block. Only way to get those points back is to reroll.
I hope they figure a good system for restats but at the same time I did enjoy making new characters ( and spending time doing it) that I know will be bigger and better.
Ah, I didn't know about that change. I am sure people have complained about this and I can see why ( if that is true). I can't imagine Diablo without being able to stat my own char!
As long as its possible, I'm find with that. Stats are automatically distributed now, which is awesome - feeling the need to seek a guide and know whats the best way to put them, especially when you can't just restat, was a very painful thing to me.
I don't think you should be able to just freely switch your skills around in the town. At the same time, I don't want the price to be too annoying (I know it was in WoW, even if most people would say 50g is nothing).
In any case, it makes 0 sense to not have the ability to reset your skills. It doesn't even make sense that you couldn't in Diablo 2, other than the fact that its quite old.
I'm against autostats... even if stats in D2 basically came down to putting the bare minimum into strength + dex and pumping the rest into vit, it still had that feeling of customization.

If Blizzard pulls it off correctly, then you wont even know they're gone. You'll be too busy thinking about the more diverse set of item combinations, skill combinations, possible passives and skill runes
If they don't pull it off right, then I'll... cry
Eh, I've been worrying about the same thing Genesis.
If characters are heavily limited by strength requirements, and can't easily increase strength by means other than base stats, then I'm going to cry as well :(.
I REALLY hope they can pull it off.

Autostats --->carebear style Changeable stats --->way to go it makes you think twice of how to put them the right way. It should be clear that a WD would value vitality > all but all Blizzard did is taking away the fun of FREE customization which is sad. If they are really going the skill respec route I would add a 168 hours cooldown to that which is 7 days + 10k for the first 20 the second and so on.
Well, the skill rune system is basically the replacement customizable option to answer for the removal of the stat point system. It honestly has a lot more potential but it will ultimately depend on how well it gets implemented. The free customization wasn't removed, rather it was relocated.
Everyone seems to forget that you will be customizing stats through gear, since most of the stats will be put on gear as Jay Wilson has said.
How many stat points did D2 give you to distribute by the time you hit 99 anyway? 505 stat points? Take WoW for example. There you can get 505 stat points on a SINGLE ITEM. That's a HUGE impact. Not to mention that D2 stats didn't really do all that much, and they can make them actually matter this time around. For example, one stamina point in WoW gives you 10 health depending on the class. All stats effect something really vital depending on your class or build, and most stats affect more than just one thing.
So stats DO matter. You just won't get them "for free" to place them where you want, and by limiting you in that respect, they stop limiting you in what gear you can wear, since that is what stats in D2 did basically.
What is the point of a replacement system? This is d3 and as such should keep what worked and add features like the rune system to make it better. Being able to tweak your own characters stats was the part of making it your own unique character withing a realm of thousands of the same class, as well as playing a big role in pvp/pve. I can think of many examples where different stat setups have defined many different types of characters based of a few classes.

Id like to know what others think of this idea.

If I were you I would go through the Development Tracker, News & Announcment section and Diablo 3 section and start reading
They've already spoken of skill respecs but are being stingy with the information I think

Edit: added a better link.
I want to be able to choose my own stats.
I think it makes the levling more fun.
