I know an Acution House makes everything much easier but i feel like it would take away from the feel of the Diablo trading system. Nothing better the joining a game like "Tade City" or "Exile Here". I think an Acution house would take away from the true Diablo feel.
Auction house?? with 5-10 people in 1 server that is kind of useless. seriously think before you post.
edit-- And also, i strongly doubt that blizzard would make a hub where all players join a server that's for AH.....
I don't reli mind if they do add it but i would prefer that they keep it like diablo 2

For all who have waited the time has come pick up your axes, swords, spears, and bows the awakening of hell is upon us protect sanctuary to your dieing breath
An auction house would be a double edged sword. On one hand it would be detrimental to player interaction outside the friends you normally play with. Which for some may not be a bad thing, others it's what they look forward to. On the other hand, it would be a good thing as it would give gold actual value, and in doing that, spark an actualy thriving economy.
As for my opinion I think I would not like it, as it would detract from the fun of finding the items yourself.

Seroiusly, think, as you say, it can be done in a menu form on battle.net, it does not have to be in game.
well then hoorah to finding the items your self... wow way to kill the feeling wondering if killing x mob will drop y item..
edit- after seeing all these suggestions i have come to the conclusion that people want an easier time playing d3. Not necessarily easy mode, but just simplified and dumbed down just so you dont have to work to be good.

I hate hearing arguments like this, and here's why: To get halfway decent gear in Diablo 2 (and just about any MMO, for that matter), you literally have to spend dozens of hours per week accumulating trash gear and gems to be able to trade for anything halfway decent, or be extremely lucky. There's too much elitism among gaming communities and they treat casual players like scum, but what's worse is, game developers CATER to those people!
If people didn't always hear "u sux n00blit", maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal to not have the best stuff. Unfortunately, online games create this environment where, if you don't have the biggest e-peens, you get dogged by complete strangers that don't know the first thing about you or your playstyle.
It's funny, thinking about 12 year old kids who play from computers bought by their parents, with subscriptions/games/expansions bought on their parents' credit cards, telling some multimillionaire entrepreneur with a gorgeous wife and a lively social life that THEY are the loser for not wasting hours upon hours in a video game. lol
I support the idea of an auction house via a mass hub you could join to access it. When it comes down to it, I couldn't care less if there is one, or isn't - though I do support the idea of it.

agree. I really hope they raise the cap for players in a server and dont lower it to 5, that would somewhat suck, in my opinion.

Please, dont let WoW bleed into Diablo 3, they are different games, lets keep it that way.</tt>
ok well they really sound like they are going for a lore game here. so the story i know so far. (sorry if its off ive been busy and not really paying attention alot to this. *shame on me*) but this is 20 years after the worldstone. and a meteor crashed and now hell is everywhere. or something. so you think people in the world of sanctuary are trying to make money on a auction house when there demons running a muk around the town.
so i think it could be a good idea. but wouldnt fit into there plans to keep it to the lore of the game.

I don't know where to begin. If you are a casual player that understands the nuances of elitism, why do you give them the satisfaction of caring? Words are given meaning by the people that interpret them.
Second, if you are a multimillionaire, could you loan me some cash?

Why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?
guys, dont mistake games with servers. Servers were US-East/West, Europe, Asia etc and they had their trade channels etc.
server wide auction houses could even exist even Diablo II but it needs one thing: a currency.
seeing how easily gold is gathered in Diablo III (in 2 its even easier) i dont think its possible to use the auction house. I can almost see the private games with people full in +% extra gold from monsters farming entire areas to gather gold to sell (spam us unfortunate non farmers) to buy items.
Honestly, an Auction House with unique/set items that costs 3.000.000.000.000 gold pieces doesnt look attractive to me.
It works fine in WoW, but WoW has completely different economy mechanics than any hack & slash rpg.
I agree that there needs to be a new a unique way of trading in D3.
Unfortunetly an auction house would be impossible unless the economy way gold based. And while I'm all for it there has been a heavy scorn of gold coming from this forum's community.
If they want to be traditional d2 has always been items for items. Now i don't admit to being an authority on this but the only way i can see doing that is to assign a point system to each item in the game and then the bidders just use thier items with similar points value or soething a long those lines
the only logical way of trading is what d2jsp did with forum gold.
but theres no official way to make it happen. An economy needs money flowing and on every start none has money to buy stuff and theres also no money to sell for. Without a good currency (even WoW that has gold thats harder to get has problems on server starts cause you need to sell stuff to vendors to get a reasonable amount to trade) its impossible to do anything.
Also keep in mind that Diablo 3 will use battle.net v2.0 but its also a single-player game and as such, its aspects (even online) will remain the same.

LOL I'm not, it's just the image that comes up when I see people making those ridiculous statements.
And, the thing is, I had a rather elitist background myself when I was on EverQuest, and over the last year tried pulling myself away from that mentality (I finally did succeed, thankfully) until I finally just up and quit the game altogether. So I do know of what I speak, because elitism just breeds anger and resentment -- there is a reason for the old saying, "it's lonely at the top", after all. Of course, maybe I just don't like elitism, and that's why I needed to break away from it myself. I'm sure there are plenty of people that are perfectly happy being snobbish jerks, but I don't enjoy it one bit.
For the record, I don't consider myself a "casual" player and I never have. I play hard when I do play, I just may not have the luck or time like a lot of the elitists have. If you played EQ during its Omens of War days, you'd know that MMOs HAVE the capacity to create challenging content for people of my playstyle (play hard and fast, kick much ass and get rewarded accordingly), they just choose not to do so because the big money comes from people who (1) play months on end just to get that one uber piece of equipment/skill/spell, or (2) don't mind shelling out real dollars for in-game rewards. People who like to play hard but in shorter spurts really don't have anywhere to play anymore, other than console games, and it's rather sad.
Anyway, I apologize for veering off-topic, I'll shut up after saying this -- I think an auction house (or, preferrably, some kind of off-line trading) would help give us so-called "casuals" more of an edge.
