i was reading something someone said in another post about pvp i was thinking about a survival arena 4 people go in and have to fight of a wave after wave of monsters and at the end of the round you get to buy like potions or antidotes. and you get a special exp for a rank and and it depends on which class you are like. Barbarian would be destroyer tell me what you guys think of this idea ?
I like arena-like challenges but the idea is dangerous in some points.
It will be terrible if it's a better place for leveling then the ordinary dungeons. You're trading kill different monster in different enviorments for kill different monsters in one single enviorment.
But if leveling in dungeons is better people will problably just forget this arena =/
Thats why imo the arena should not give any EXP or Items. It should be a challenge feature, like pvping. The amount of waves should be almost unlimited and in the end it gets EXTREMELY hard to a point that only a very few parties made of max leveled dream geared charcters can beat it.
The titles should not be given based at scores you get. It should be based at the strongest wave you were able to beat. For exemple, you can't get a title by beating the first wave 1.000.000 times. The title will be given when you beat wave 10, then another when you beat wave 25, then another when you beat other stronger wave, and so on. With expansions they can add new and more difficult waves.
The waves should not be only made of legion of monsters. Some special rules should make part of the challenge. For exemple: A wave of 30 light and 30 dark spirits. You must kill only dark ones, leaving all the lightys alive.
Sounds a bit like Bloody Palace from the Devil May Cry series. Of course that was a bit more ruthless. About 100 levels with a boss of random difficulty every 10 levels, and no healing or bying or saving. And all under time pressure.
Of course, they're two completely different games, but it was definately for bragging rights. But I seriously doubt we'll be getting somethng like this.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

Thats a good idea. I like this guy.
Yeah, having endless waves of hordes would be a good show-off thing once you reach that point in the game where you just dont know what to do.
I personally love the idea myself, without items or exp. I have always wanted some sort of "end game" for Diablo, but without making it a dungeon or final boss. We shouldn't need to be level 99 to finish Hell for any given reason. However, I would love to see something that would still give you something to do at 99. A challenge above all challenges. Ultimate survival mode, a never ending game of pure skill.
The only problem I see with it is time. Not everybody wants to spend 8 hours on their computer, and if you just get that good that you could be playing it for 8+ hours, it might not really appeal to you anymore. Would there be a save system so you could come back and continue your onslaught, or would ending the game mean you accept whatever wave you are on as your final score?

Basically it's the devil may cry 4 system. Ya... I like it a lot! Considering this challenge will only give you a title or a symbolic item, it's a bonus to the game.

I think the arena challenge shouldn't take that long. Around 2~3 hours to all waves is enough.
The challenge shouldn't be time based (it's difficult becuse it takes 300 hours to finish). It should be a pure matter of skill (you can do it in 2 hours, but you will need 200 to master all the waves and bosses strategies).
I think this is a bad idea, especially for an rpg, plus was sorta already used before fighting baal in diablo2. yes Nazi zombies is fun And so is Horde for GoW2 but lets get real here Diablo 3 is a hack and slash rpg, there is no need for an added "survival arena" to make up for end-game content or just to waste time.... Thats what the new "cow" level will be for

Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could

Actually theres a really colossal need for end game content in Diablo, at least for me.
And I don't believe one "for fun"/"non sense" dungeon is the right feature to fill this task.
Yeah, I'm with you Italifoca, there is a huge need for at least something to do come 99 (for those of us who actually have the time and patience to get there). Something like a never ending wave system to me seems idealistic for one simple fact: itemization. Even at 99, there are always items out there that can help your build more and more. They are saying now that most of the Uniques and such will vary a lot. Even the ones with a real name will change a lot, they can be socketed or not, have more base stats, etc based on the randomization engines. Even if you have great gear there will almost ALWAYS be room to get better items through the randomization engine. Even then, there are other builds one could try and get items for to fit their needs.

It'll be like Uber Leveling without using any tactics.
