I hear a lot of talk like "Things should be like this in normal mode, this way in nightmare mode, and this way in Hell mode for D3" Has it been confirmed that D3 will have this same difficulty structure as D2? Meaning will we first play through the game on Normal, then on Nightmare, and then on Hell?
I agree with all of you who think that the game should be structured like this, I'm just curious as to whether or not we are sure that this is how it will turn out.

Yes, they confirmed in the WWI interviews. But we don't know yet whats going to be execly the difference between the modes...
It was confirmed there would be difficulty tiers in the game, but I don't remember if it said how many or what they'd be called, or what the differences would be.
they really do need to add extra things into each difficutly above normal(or whatever they decide to call it) because in d2 whenever i killed baal i just started a new character, i didnt really see the point in playing in nightmare
I would be quite happy with the way D2 is, with 3 difficulties, and the only added content is at the end of Hell.
I don't want them to spend too much time adding content to nightmare and hell and in turn leave stuff out of normal (which I will undoubtedly be playing more than the others)

I think all they would really need to do is slightly alter how the monsters behave. If you make them smarter, faster and have more abilities we will have to change our strategies for each level. This is basically what was done with D2 only with more things changing, not just the health, damage, and immunities (which will not be in D3).
The changes in D2 just made the game more tedious and slowed it down. This won't be the case for D3. Perhaps each new tier should require that we use multiple skills to successfully take down each mob.
I hope that doesn't destroy the game's fun like it did to D2.
I think they're figured out that simply adding more health, damage and immunities isn't the way to go to get a more rewarding playing experience.

3 Is perfect imo, i do hope there will be more difference between them, i'm thinking unusual quests only to be found in higher difficulty, extended lore, etc,...
Agreed. I don't know if we'll get this, but if we do we'll probably not get any major lore points this way. However a few good lore-tidbits here and there are always appreciated as well.
For example, let's say we get a small quests were we kill a small demon lord or similar. The quest could then involve a backstory for the demon lord, where he came from and why he's there. Not anything major, but definately something that spices up the game.
So long as it isn't terribly generic or bland. If they're going to create sidequests like these I'd like a better explanation and justification for a demons existence other than "he's evil, he needs to die."
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Well I hope the game difficulty structure is the same as Diablo 2, I really wouldn't expect anything else really. I mean if you think about it, its one of Diablo's key features and I just dont think that selecting the difficulty in the game menu is going to be very Diablo like. So im pretty sure that Diablo 3 will have the same difficulty structure as Diablo 2.
Yeah I liked the difficulties because I understand that its too much work to build a single difficulty long enough to get a character to high levels. Ideally, I think 2 difficulties that have some content differences would be best and a third difficulty for fun but not as necessary as in D2 to level your character. Like normal = 1-50, nm = 51-80, and hell = 81+. I know people played like this in d2 but pretty just cause of baal runs. I think the first time I played through solo I was just over level 30 when I finished baal.

Apparently freezing yourself is fatal. HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE COPING?!
lol i just hope when they release the game there are no immunities which were gay in d2 but pretty nicely implemented into d1
i also hope there are no terribly weak skill builds lol like the summons becoming just downright useless by the time you hit midway through nightmare or in hell diff (unless you get those hacked charms that do +7 to all skills)
either way summons prob wont be so strong as to be a main build but they shouldnt die in one hit if you pore a good amount of points into them
and it shouldnt be insanely tedious to get some builds you want (like a poison necro, or a pure golem necro)
lol i myself like to try as many builds as i can possibly think of as fun and its annoying when your stuck on a boss or cant beat an area cuz the spells you use arent that good until like lvl 30
6 difficulties? That's going a bit overboard. I think 4 will be a maximum, considering you need more levels for a new difficulty.
I agree. I'd like to see different quest difficulties. Like even though you're in Normal mode, there might be a quest in Act1 that's too had to do within the first run of the first Act. So then you'd have to come back to it to complete it.

They said that this might be subject to some change (as everything else) but they have no plans to change it at this point.
