jay wilson states that with the rune on skills that give you zombie dogs you can get MORE then just the set amount..... i really hope hes not mistaken because i could've sworn 4 was max and ONLY with the passive. but hey this is awesome. GIANT ZOMBIE DOG ARMY RAWR. makes them even better :). also makes a sacrifice builds AALOT more viable

I just thought "normal" meant 3 because that is what you would normaly get from the skill. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong because having a small army of dogs will be awesome.
I hope I'm wrong cuz I'm playing WD first but I am pretty sure you can only have 4 at max. I think he just meant with the passive you can get 4 dogs.
no. he clearly states "you can get more than normal". normal being 3-4. so 5+
Your making an assumption that "normal" means 3-4... In his mind, normal may be 3, and "more than normal" is 4. Though, for all we know thus far, you may be correct, but its nothing more than guesswork at this stage.

how in the world is more then normal 4 when 4 is ONLY specifically with a passive. if he was referring to 4 he would of said 4 or he would of said "you get the same amount as if you had the passive that gives 4". which really makes zero sense how you could get 4 dogs specifically without the passive

eh?? Well, How I've understood it (I think its the general assumption) is that "normal" is 3 dogs. Thats what you can get with just the summon spell. By using passives/runes you can raise it to more than "normal".. This is where it gets confusing though as we don't know what MORE is, although i'd say its pretty safe to say that more does = up to 4. We have had access to the passive to randomly spawn dogs when dealing dmg, and we've only had a max of 4 so far.
But who knows, maybe theres a way around getting more than 4! (It WOULD be sweet!)

Putting it that way I think you are right and now can't wait to play the WD even more!
Jay stated in one of the interviews that you could never have more than 4 dogs at once (Too lazy to look it up). Summoning new ones from passives/abilities would destroy the oldest/weakest one(s).
Edit - Actually it was Jason in the Bestbuy AMA:
For the Witch Doctor, with Zombie Handler and Circle of Life passives, are you able to go well beyond having 4 summoned dogs on the field at once or is there some sort of cap?
JasonBender: 4 is the max for dogs. You can get up to your max nyumber of dogs with a variety of skills (beyond just summoning them), which is good if they're dying a lot in higher difficulties, but that doesn't break the cap.

I feel like this is right, although i'm not looking it up either.
Doesn't make sense that we wouldn't have been able to spawn up to the cap before. The tooltips say nothing about caps or raising them, something like that wouldn't be a hidden mechanic.
Basically what this means is sacrifice focus'd builds should be a viable option having the chance to spawn new dogs and not having to wait for the skills' cooldown.
Puppet Master - Have 7 pets and/or followers at the same time.
Thats from the achievements link at news on the home page. Granted there are proli a few ways to do it i hope having more than 4 dogs is one of them. But if there is a cap at 4 then so be it and i will still enjoy playing the WD no less. I did love that interview, was very cool .

If anything that convinces me more that its 4 total dogs, It wouldn't be much of an achievement if you can just keep spawning dogs. So for the achievement you'd have 4 dogs, 1 gargantuan, 1 Spider Queen, +fetishes?, Toad of Hugeness?, Follower
Even without the fetishes and toad of hugeness counting, thats 7 others. Im on the edge if they'll count or not as they go away after a set time, maybe people in china know this by now! lol

4 is the Max, that achievement is probably only possible with fetishes. I am farely sure Toads / Spider queen are not actual pets, since they cannot be attacked and are not persistent.
Items can adjust skills with sets and random traits as well.
There are no affixes or set bonuses currently[known] in the game that raise the cap of 4 dogs.
Ya, I haven't seen an affix or set bonus that does that.. only cooldown reduction on dogs i think. Have you seen the spider queen in use by chance? It's kinda frustrating that people know this on the other side of the world lol The tooltip only says "you may only have 1 spider queen summoned at a time". I guess it could have a timer where it goes away like the other spiders, but it seems like it could be a constant pet. I've just never seen an official word on how that rune works/

I haven't actually. To me it seems like it's the same way that the normal spiders are. You throw the jar, a queen hatches and runs around spawning little ones for 5-10 secs or something. Logically I would think that if It was a normal pet, it would have a cooldown associated with the skill, or atleast a duration.
