So I have a rather nice Echoing Fury that I was fortunate enough to find a while back, which has been my main hand for sometime. I eventually was fortunate enough again to find a decent WKL with LS that made a big difference in over all dps.
I just recently changed my boots and ring to get the Nat's set - which dropped my resists to about 480. Which is not going to work, as poison at MP8 drops me too quickly. I'd like to continue to build up dps (Mempo, trifecta gloves, ammy, etc) but I'm looking hard at the Echoing Fury and wondering if I should trade up.
So my question to the Monks that handle mp10 efficiently: is LS necessary on both weapons? I know it doesn't hurt - but I see some top players that have swords, staves, etc as both of their weapons and some with one as an EF. The fear proc alone is super annoying, but it does help in over all survivability of getting me out of the elemental damage.
Second question: resists. I was running about 650 before I started making changes to gear. I'm still crafting gloves and shoulders to try and get a pair with AR and my chosen - but I'd like to get advice on that sweet spot of where I should be sitting with resists to handle mp10 efficiently.
Mid 400's id s fine for your AR. key is to keep the ticks up for your LS and the reason why I us Cyclone Strike.
I Farm MP10, kill elite packs in 30 to 45 secs, and die very little if at all. Ruksak can back me on this. My gear is far from uber and I have alot of room for improvements but it isnt needed really for me exept to add to my epeen on my character.
As far as the echo goes I think it sucks ass. For that kind of coin you can outfit your scoundrel with the freeze bow/amulet and its ALOT more effective and hella cheaper. Personally I would sell it and use the money for upgrades elsewhere.
Your gear is what I was talking about - so many people run with swords or axes (usually crafted) with the socket, CCD and LS I've wanted to get one and see the quality of life improvement with those instead of the EF - but I haven't found one yet and they are rather expensive.
I know that there is that loss of dps by not having the Echoing Fury's 0.25 to attacks for both weapons, but ultimately I'm spending more time chasing down mobs that I've feared than I am focusing down a pack. And as you've pointed out, they aren't tightly bunched, so no LS from the cyclones.
In your travels - how do you feel about not using a Won Kim Lau with Lifesteal?
Never used a WKL ever for my monk. I find buying a class specific weapon like that for the amount of money they want for a good one useless to me. I level all my characters and being able to swap weaps amongst characters is a must for me. I also find resale on non class specific weaps much easier as everyone is looking for them.
Be patient and keep checking the AH. A sword will be on there cheap, there always is and you will get it.
I recommend double LS as well. And if you go double LS, that means you can't get CD on an echoing fury so the differnce between a good rare and good LS EF isn't that great. I've actually been thinking about dropping my EF for a good rare. The fear can be annoying.
Listen to this. Get rid of EF. EF sucks for High MP if u dont have 300k unbuffed and dont melt packs in 5 seconds . a.k.a having INVIS level gear.
For SW : Cyclone + FoT : Thunderclap builds, WKL is a must which u have and the one u have is decent enough as an upgrade from what you have will cost a lot.
Get a rare main hand mace/spear/axe, ull prolly want an axe since the market for them is very good and there are a loit to choose from, while any good spear./mace will cost a lot more cause they are rarer.
U need doulbe lifesteal vs reflect dmg there's no way around that, unless u have sick sick gear, which most of us dont.
I would advise you do get another WKL with higher dps and crit dmg and just swap the life steal one when u feel u need it vs a pack : usually against reflect dmg/ mass poison/electrified/nightmare and shit like that.
So in short : for usual build go WKL and rare
for Wave of light build go Rare MH ( spear/mace cause high weapon dmg, or axe is decent ) and echoing fury.
O and resist anything between 550-650 ( anyother number sugggested by any one is pure crazyness ) is ok.
LE : Forgot to check your character's stats for some reason : U need more HP.Try and get 45k+ HP and like 600 all res. If u can get more with your budget or find a good deal, that's perfect but try and at least do that.If u want any help with buying gear and shit add my battle tag ( ,<----- under my screen name ) and we can talk.
just a quick note to the folks that gave some advice in this thread - sold the EF for a nice chunk of gold and got a main hand axe that is a starter and was in my price range.....HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Gameplay is so much better now that I don't have that constant, annoying fear. Needless to say, EP works so much better and its much more enjoyable.

Why would you want the same wep for several classes? Weapons should have a nice chunk of mainstat (dex) and the monk is the only one that can use dex 1handers. I guess a barb/wd/wiz could as well, but that would be...not-so-good.
To the OP, I see you have seen the light No more EF = no more tears. I would also suggest to go for 1 LS wep only, but that'll come naturally when you progress through new gear upgrades.

Its a whole new world of not chasing shit around the screen to watch the EP go off while they are by themselves
However, I'm curious; why only one LS weapon? I have a WKL with LS and now a new sword with is and the quality of life is so much greater in gameplay - why go back to only one weapon?
Double LS makes things much easier. You can stand in anything (pivot point of arcane beams on mp10 maghda) and sustain back enough life. Damage reflect makes little difference. I dont think the extra dps you can get by not going double LS is worth it.
I'm not yet near MP10, but here's my experience w/ LS: After 1.0.8 - floating between MP4 and MP5, I started making lots of changes, including getting a decent LS on my off-hand. That took me to a solid MP5. It took me a couple weeks to replace my main hand without much sacrifice to DPS with LS, but I finally found a deal, and now I'm comfortable at MP7. It's not fast, but I'm able to go toe to toe standing in desecrator, or even in Azmodan's black gook. Loving the 1.0.8 monster density bump; between density and higher MP, I haven't leveled so fast in a long, long time.
2x LS makes life easier, sure. But the farm is slower. If you can survive with 1x LS wep, then you will have 1 stat (crit dmg) on your wep free! More DPS, less time spent on each pack. Simple as that. If you can't handle 1x LS, then you need either more eHP or more LS. But, as I noticed, after a while you'll have enough eHP to survive on just 1 LS wep, and at that point your second LS stat is useless. More DPS is not.
Another bonus of double LS is even if you're frozen, you still sustain back enough to survive just from sweeping wind even if you're standing in plague, molten, surrounded, whatever. Even when frozen I survive 95% of the time, My life drops and bounces back rapidly from the SW still leeching. Opens up a spot by not having to use serenity. All this is of course assuming you have proper EHP.
Man just stay 2 LS. 1 LS wep means u completely outgear MP10.Which most of us dont. I do MP10 with 2 WKLs, one for dmg one for LS, because reflect is the only thing that really does dmg.
Yeah until the day that I have gear on the level of Invis and other top monks, I can't see myself giving up the double LS. The night and day difference its made to my game play is just too valuable. I totally subscribe to the idea of more dps faster/less LS needed - however, at the point I'm at now, getting that higher level of dps is going to require billions of gold or some really nice RNG.
The current dilemma that I'm dealing with is whether to drop the WKL for another one hand sword with equivalent dps to my main hand and LS. I know the dps boost to lightening skills with the WKL makes a huge difference, but its actual physical damage leaves much to be desired. thoughts?

If you are using FoT - Thunderclap and SW: Cyclone there are no better items than WKL as your offhand. The only thing that can make any sort of sense in this matter is to go with personal preference. If you don't like WKL, go for a rare. It's rather simple A good WKL is more DPS than any other rare (99.9% of the time).

Won Khim Lau can give a fat boost, however, depending on your MP goals they can be extremely expensive because of the metrics you need to maintain to move up. For example, a WKL with lifesteal and respectable DPS, or Crit Hit Dmg.
If you only play cookie cutter, WKL is the way to go. But I like going rare instead as it opens up other skills. WoL is not a lightning skill, neither is cyclone strike, etc.

I'm for the most part comfortably farming mp8 - trying to collect essence to keep crafting gloves and bracers - need those AR
And a Mempo and a Nat Ring and a blah, blah
