Make the kick also a movement skill of somekind, allowing the monk to retreat

Only triggered when enemy tries to simply run away from the monk, the monk has to stab in a pure simple physical attack to start the entire chain reaction.
I would think by default that the Kick would also be an AoE hench the roundhouse factor. And an application of the Jet Li Rune it would add some kind of effect.
Lethality Rune: If kick kills enemy, they explode into pieces and do AoE damange to surrounding enemies. Multi-strike Rune: Chun-Li style lightning kick, which hits multiple opponents in a frontal cone Striking Rune: Monk slides forward during the kick like Johnny Cage, hitting all opponents in the path, adding knockback.

Lightning- The monk kicks the first target causing the initial target to be knocked back and then explode with an electric nova
Fire- The kicked target is lit on fire and while knocked back explodes dealing fire damage to nearby opponents
Poison- The initial kick injects an acid into the main target and when knocked back the target explodes with an acid that slows enemies down and does DoT
Arcane- This skill causes the targeted enemy to be knocked back and explodes causing nearby enemies to be stunned.

Norris Kick - monk grows hair and beard changes to resemble chuck norris then the monk wins the game
power kick - the kick causes a wave to follow it and stuns targets behind it

Ah I see. I thought they were synonyms, like Striking = Golden, etc etc. Thanks for pointing that out.

@Upgradez I could've faceplanted on the keyboard and still killed everything in act 1.
