This is something that I have been noticing more and more as of lately.
That either the sentry will just sit there next to a mob and NOT fire.
OR
Place a sentry directly next to a elite/rg and it turns to shoot at some white mob half way across the screen.
This was never a problem before the patch that I can remember, actually thinking about it it was more of the same problem with some of the WD pets before the patch. Is it just me noticing these things, or is this more of a common thread amongst others as well? Or has the problem always been there before and I've never truly noticed it until lately?
Yup I noticed this right after the patch along with my clan mates. Sometimes the sentries just sit there not doing a thing when there are mobs around them. As far as sentries making white mobs a priority I can't say.
When your sentries don't fire then you are either too far from the mob or the sentry is too far from the mob.
As Holyrage mentioned, sentries fire at white mobs first.
You should always try to place your sentries in smart positions. A position that no matter what it will attack it will still hit the highest ammount of mobs possible and also not missing your main target(s) which is usually a champ / elite pack or rg.
I've noticed the not firing part, for sure. Tends to happen with enemies that sort of phase in/out, when they phase back in the sentries don't seem to realize it. Only sometimes, though.
As far as shooting lower-priority targets, I don't know. I didn't really start up a DH again til seasons started up so if it worked differently before then I wouldn't know. I've just become used to how they work now and know what to expect.

I've been standing right next to a sentry that is right next to a mob, no more than 10 yards each distance, and the sentry is not firing. On multiple occasions. Tends to happen a lot with the Terror Demon rift guardian. While he is visible. There's definitely a bug - I don't know that I'd call it critical, as it happens infrequently enough as to not be ridiculous. But it happens.
Was it against orlash or other burrowers? I noticed sentrys lock on to a target and refuse to select another until the orig has died.
On orlash its really annoying cause the sentrys wont shoot his little adds
I see it a lot more now in 2.1.1 then before but it is not often enough to be critical to me. Orlash, terror demons and the burrowing worms are the worst for me.
I do wish sentries would target what you have your mouse on as well as their current behavior. Would be nice to be able to smart target at times but that's for another topic of discussion.
thanks for the replies, i'm not trying to make a big deal out of this. as it was mentioned, it is not frequent enough to call it a critical bug of sorts. but it can definitely be called annoying at times when it wasn't like this before.
Have had the same "problem" but i have solved it by using a resorce spender attack to trigger the sentry to fire again. Although hoping for a hotfix for this
this has been happening to me on occasion as of late, most noticeable with rift bosses. i'd plop a sentry right beside a boss and it wouldn't budge, with me standing right up on the boss as well. if this happens with 1 sentry, it'll happen with all the rest, so for some reason the boss just wasn't recognized for that particular rift
I had a Phallanx-Archer Crusader, and found that if a terror demon or worm or something was the archer's target and it disappeared, they wouldn't stop targetting it. They'd just stop shooting until after the terror demon came back, regardless of whether there were any other mobs nearby that they could be shooting in the mean-time or not.
I've had this happen a few times , this is not the mob being out of range or only Orlash , this has only happened since the patch , never ever before .
middle of a pack I have had 2 out of 5 sentries just not respond at all , have to replace them , on a couple of occasions I've laid a sentry near a pack and it sits there not even turning to face the pack , just doing nothing from start to finish . Some restart when your character runs over them , others tend to need replacing .
Sometimes running over them .
Firing a spender yourself .
Does not work , as for replacing them , its a pain in the butt if it was the first one you laid and have to cycle back that particular sentry .

Replacing sentries rather than checking on them would be less mind boggling
I guess the sentries work similarly.
And may the odds be ever in your favour.
