Yeah, I think all of those who don't mind the loss of VCs are in for a nasty surprise when they've burned through their stockpile of VCs and ADs. I bet some votes will change when they feel they are forced to pick up everything in rifts.
I wonder if some real statistics people can work out if the the change really does work out better for the players. No, I don't mean all the self proclaimed experts who just derp out "RNG is RNG" in every thread. I mean someone who actually knows something.
1) I've been picking up an inventory full of materials in almost every of my close to 4000 rifts. It eludes me how this is a major problem for people. Yeah, you lose a second or two in your T6 clear... but if you want loot, if you want materials, if you want to craft stuff, you gotta earn it. In my personal opinion, it's a bad development when players pick up nothing anymore except for legendary items. It's a loot-based game, and we were all complaining about loot being totally useless in D3V. Now, there's an incentive to actually consider some of the yellow drops in T6 runs. We asked for it, we got it.
2) I don't see the connection between the VC discussion and RNG. But as a self-proclaimed expert on made-up statistics I can tell you that we used to get about ~90 VCs out of five T6 rifts (see the Kadala thread) and the VC stacks from the Rift Guardian do not make up for it. I think the lowest I've seen today was two VCs, not sure about the highest - maybe ten? But definitely not 18, and it should be 18 on average to "make up" for the change. So yes, there will be a lack of yellow materials if you continue to not pick up stuff in rifts.
The solution is simply: pick up yellow materials when you run rifts. I'm actually throwing away blues/whites when my inventory is full and try to pick up all legendaries, yellows, and gems. It's about a full inventory exactly until you kill the RG. There's no shortcut anymore by just gambling, sorry. I stockpiled 20k materials before 2.1, gearing up all chars (especially tank monk/tank WD) let me burn through almost all my VCs (quick tip for everyone: avoid enchanting chests, rather craft a new one, re-rolling chests is the real VC sink). But I'm now back to 10k again, it's really quick if you pick up yellow materials every now and then (and still averages 3-4 minutes T6 runs, so what). It's just about getting used to it.
@Thread: I do think the 30% increase from Kadala is not a wise change. It's too easy to get gear these days. I've heard no one complaining about not being able to get a set - but I've heard plenty of people complain that they get it to fast. A restart on seasons? Well, after one day they were back at T6 farming. The sense of progress, gearing up, and earning the higher greater rift levels does not exist. If gear is kinda given away "for free", there's no feeling of success anymore. I think all the Kadala buff (this is number three if I count correctly) were uncalled for and harmful to the game.
You could roll 20 times for 100 shards before. With good RNG you could score 1,2,3, even upwards of 5 (I've seen it, my girlfriend is dumb lucky in this game) legendary items with that bounty of shards. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to get 5 legendary items with 100 shards in the current game, since you could only buy 4 items with that many shards. No matter how you guys spin it, the chances are less than before, because you have less opportunities for the time you spent to acquire each roll.
You know how they say lotteries are "a tax on people who are bad at maths"?
Yeah, you should probably stick to gambling with blood shards. Don't ever take your bad maths skills and use them to gamble with real money.
I still find it weird that everyone talks about "spent 500 shards."
Do people really wait until they get to exactly 500 before shopping?
I gamble after every rift and the new price system is awful. Before you might wind up with 4 left, now you can end up with up to 24 unspendable shards which feels crap.
I realise objectively it's better now for getting loot, but it feels crappy.
It seems the way Blizzard communicated the change is more of an issue than the actual change itself - which really is a non-issue, because you know, more legs. Most people make it painfully obvious that they have no clue about mathematics and stochastics at all. Leave out the numbers and make it entirely in wording.
The most veiled crystals I've seen from a rift guardian by now is 5.. and the most white/blue crafting mats I've seen is 17(and on those rift guardians I only got 1 veiled crystal)... so no you don't get enough crafting mats from Rift Guardians..
You're right, haven't seen more than 3 or 4 veiled crystals from a guardian either. Considering we now get roughly 16 less items from Kadala for a T6 run, this is a net loss.

Everyone i have ever played with, clan, friends, community, all of them wait for 500 blood shards before they spend them.

I hate those people because every 20 minutes they're shouting on TS "oh please don't close the rift, I need to gamble"... and then you're delayed for another few minutes. I gamble at 300-400 shards, so that I never run over the limit.

Are you seriously suggesting that gambling anywhere from 1-4 clicks to get rid of ~100 shards to make room for the rift drop takes minutes? It takes 15 seconds. I have time to do it during a closing rift with time to spare.

I have no idea what these people are doing. Oftentimes it involves character switching (because they wanna gamble with a different character) or thinking about what actually to gamble for. No idea. but yeah, I've waited definitely more than 15 seconds (otherwise it'll be enough time after talking to Orek, right). If you're that fast... great. Not everyone is, unfortunately :-)

How would closing the rift prevent people from gambling? even IF they have blood shards left on the ground, there's plenty of time to go and spend some shards and go back pick up the rest within the 30 seconds it takes for the rift to close >.<
And people should really learn to gamble @ Kadala in Act 1 / New Tristram, it's 1 step from the blacksmith >.<

And for the people who wants to spend their shards on a different character, you would rather have them switch character after every rift? making the overall delay even longer?

Sensible move. Also, it avoids the situation of being on 500, having a pile drop, and realizing that you'd rather gamble on a different character but you need to do it on your current one to make room.
My main problem with these changes is the damn net loss of veiled crystals. WTF are they talking about more mats from grift guardiands and so on? Yeah reusables and arcane dust and all that shit but only like 5 veiled crystals per boss? Makes rerolling a pair of pants or chest a once a day kind of thing. They don't need to shower us with mats but my only source before this patch was Kadala and now she's no good.
My guess is that the main reason for this change is just that they want to limit the rerolling (unless the mat drop is bugged).
I'll get on average 2 legs per 400 shards on armor. I've gotten 3 in a row. The best time imo is after clearing and entire t6 rift with no legs or doing a bounty run.
If your only after the immunity necks from her, GL with that. Season 2 or next big patch is supposed to bring leg gems for toughness so there is hope.
For mats just stack some magic find and pickup everything in rifts it doesn't take long if your not skipping mobs and clearing the place. Another option is to powerlevel people from 61-70 and have them pay you in yellow drops.
What irritates me is the reason behind the change, aka
As a result, we're working to reduce the frequency at which players need to run between Kadala and the Blacksmith to salvage unwanted items
Come on, this was never a problem. If you gambled in New Tristam you literally turned around and the Blacksmith is there. There is probably another, true reason, but they could atleast lie better than this.
I havent had a chance to gamble enough to get a feel for the change. Lets see this weekend!
If you never believe the reasons Blizzard gives, then you're never going to accept any of the changes they make that aren't made for you. Knock that shit off.

The mechanic behind "limit rerolling" is the exponentially incrementing cost in gold. Now we all know that it's completely irrelevant with the introduction of The Vault and/or Boon of the Hoarder. They needed a new way of limiting rerolls and that's what Mister Travis came up with... That or... One of the leads went like: "cry cry cry, I'm a lead artist and I hate walking between Kadala and the Blacksmith all the time and I have not a single clue about System design or game balance but I will force this change down the design department's throat to prove that I have powers on this project"... Happens way too often in the gaming industry
My worst run was almost 1500 without a legendary /set
I can go 500 without 1 and have done a few times .
Sometimes I can get 1 first try .
I will never ever gamble jewellery , far too expensive .
As for rift guardian dropping more mats as someone said in the thread . He's dropping plenty of veiled crystals is he ?
People saying pick up all yellows now , you are missing the overall point : Blizzard quoted . We don't want you wasting time running backwards and forwards from Kadala to Blacksmith (which takes less than a second in act 1 btw if you stand between them ) . Okay , but now you have to portal back and forth to the blacksmith to salvage more .
It does not make sense . It makes it a lot worse if you weren't picking up yellows before this change .
Only baddies dont like the buff. Ive gotten almost perf tnt's (trifecta, fire res, 50%) and frostburns with 9.5crit/48% crit damage. There is no way i would of ever gotten those without this buff. I dropped almost 10k shards on gloves and got nothing last week.
People need to do bounties and normal rifts if they want yellows. Sounds like the same lazy bunch who did nothing but RIF.
I've spent ~1500 shards for 2H weapon and none of them was legendary! fck ths sht
The odds of 20 gambles with a 10% win-rate giving you absolutely nothing is about 12%... the RNG sorting hat put you in the bottom one eighth. The good news is, the odds of your next 20 gambles giving you absolutely nothing is only about 12%

got 5 legs (which 3 of was marauder gloves) (still no taskers :P)
then I spent 750 shards on belts,
and I got only 3 legs...
its about R&G if your lucky you'll get loot.
