I was able to upgrade my wizard a lot before RoS, and now he is even stronger, almost 1k DPS buffed and it is kinda ok for me ... atm I am doing some bounties/rifts/mangle/arreat core runs at t1, do not believe in drop rate in other torment levels (0,0001% to 0,0002% not sure worth the diff).
So at moment I do not know much how to upgrade my gear, was looking for set items like tal rashas and some other specific stuff ... As specific items, they are so hard to find, and sometimes I feel bored with my wiz farming farming farming, would like to try another char, but if I do then I ll never find tal rashas for example...
At this moment I feel sad about Bind to Account items and Smart Loot, since I can not use my wizard to gear up my other chars unless the item is almost perfect to change only the primmary att, and also sad to play another char and lose the chance to find specific items I want for the wizard, and no trades with other players makes that even diff... well hope you understand that feeling bro ...
What are you guys doing or recommend? any advices?
Well, I'm in the same boat and am not perfectly happy with it, too.
My Wiz can destroy t1 stuff and I'd like to get gear with her for my other toons. Yet, both my recently leveled Crusader and Demon Hunter are stuck with crafted rares and will never get to where my Wiz is unless I intentionally sacrifice loot (and even exp) and therefore fun to play them instead.
Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with a leveling process to reach the main character's potency, but this is too much. Also, it leads to the same situation that Blizz wanted to get rid of by making paragon account-wide.
You have to be careful though. If you made legendaries never smart-drop, you'd never get what you need, and people like myself who only ever play one class will feel punished for doing so.
Personally I'd rather have legendaries 100% smart-drop. I hate getting DH cloaks or Cru shields that I'll never use. Of course, you're on the opposite side of that.
They'll never be able to make it perfect, so it's a bit of a compromise at the moment.

Honestly, it's not that difficult to get a character T1 ready (though admittedly this does differ by class). I was able to get both a wizard and a DH T1 ready with maybe five hour's worth of work total put into it (each). You should be able to run expert/master with crafted rares, and then in that two hours find a few upgrades to get them ready. Reroll a few things at the mystic and there you go. I saw ~200k sheet dps increase on my wizard after just a few hours of playing her.
And from a more personal standpoint, why shouldn't you put a little bit of effort into getting your characters geared up? If you're that bored of your wizard, the change of pace will far outweigh theslight exp or item loss. I know this is more of a personal thing, but if you want well-geared characters, you gotta work for them.
I'm not bored of my Wiz, I'm bored of the other characters that simply can't compete with her. I'd like to improve them through loot aquired by my Wiz instead of slowly grinding them up the same way. To me, that was iconic to the Diablo series.
Dont get me wrong, I like the smart loot system aand I agree with Emmo (for those who play only one class), but I do not like the Bind to Account system ... it is not possible to trade the items found by wizard and this is kinda sad also.
We could have an option, to choose the SMART loot property to be dropped, i.e. : I select my Wizard, and select the SMART loot to focus on STR for the current game, and everything about loot will focus on smart loot STR
but it seems just a broken idea ...
In fact its just a little bit sad because I wanted to play another class but this would makes me never find new gear for the wizard, and vice versa ... the idea of one char for life in diablo is not a thing that makes me happy, even if ppl like it and I really understand them all, dont get me wrong again...
The game is still a lot better than some months ago, I was just sharing my feelings about the stage I reached at moment ..(The Wide paragon change makes me so happy at the start, I loved it, always asked about it), just need a few more tweeks to make the game less ''one char per life'' imo
I found a couple of legendary items for my twinks (DH cloak, crusader shield, barb STR boots, and so on). I really wanna boost them to 70, but it takes so much time since there's hardly anyone willing to invest the time to do it. My idea is to just throw those legs at my twinks, also the unused items from my wizard when I get upgrades, such that whenever I wanna play one of my twinks they have decent starting gear. I'm also collecting all crafting mats (have like 3000 whites, 2000 blue and rares, 500 Death's Breath or so) such that I can quickly craft and "fill the gap" when I need to.
You have to be careful though. If you made legendaries never smart-drop, you'd never get what you need, and people like myself who only ever play one class will feel punished for doing so.

Couldn't they fix this by giving the player choice--say through a slider that applies smart loot to X% of items that drop? What if Joe is happy with his current main character and wants 0% smart drops so that he can gear up his other characters more quickly? That system would be as perfect for him as it is for you since you will also be able to set it to 100% smart loot and lock it in to your class all the time.
Here's a radical thought: How about gearing up alts by playing them?
this is obvious and almost the only way ... but we are here discussing for fun, sharing some ideas that we know blizz will not agree lol ... dont be mad and join the conversation
peace
another simple option would be to turn off the smart loot, so I could play another toon and still have a chance to find my wizard tal rasha gear, vice versa
haha well, started playing the crusader now .. peace all
Here's a radical thought: How about gearing up alts by playing them?
Because that defies the idea of account-wide Paragon which was supposed to let us play WHATEVER CHARACTER WE WANTED. It was supposed to circumvent the problem of one character being able to farm better, therefore, shoehorning you into that choice.
Smart Loot forces you to do the opposite. You have a strong toon that can farm? Oh well. And it's spawned by this stupid "YOU GOTTA EARN IT" line of thinking. If my Wizard kills a monster and gets some T&Ts and passes them to my WD how is that not earned? Isn't that why we have a SHARED STASH and BoA gear? Doesn't that imply that we're supposed to be sharing items between our characters?
I'm so sick of this stupid asininity where people repeatedly assert that unless that character has got the drop then it wasn't somehow earned. If I want to gear up my monk so that I can play T1+ on him before actually playing him, who gives a fuck? Who the fuck are you, or anyone else, to tell me that I have to grind hours on my monk to get gear for him?
Just more social engineering. PLAY MY WAY OR YOU ARE SHITTY!
I agree that you should be able to gear up any character with any character, and smart-loot is counter to that idea. The problem is if you removed smart-loot it would basically punish people who play the way I do, with only 1 character. If you check my profile you'll see only a Wizard, and that'll never change.
It would be really crappy if smart loot was removed for me because suddenly at least 2/3 of loot would become useless to me as they'd have dec/str/nostat, and they'd become instant forgotten souls. It'd instantly become a really unrewarding game for me.
I can't think of a way other than what Glimflicher said before, to basically give the player the choice, but I really can't see Blizzard ever allowing that.

It's true that Paragon 2.0 was designed to help with allowing play with alts without feeling so bad about the loss, but the intent (as I see it) was to remove the inherent bonuses that main characters had through paragon. With Paragon 1.0, your main (at higher P levels) had MF, GF, and a bunch of stats that made it better without counting gear. In that regard, it is successful.
The gear gap is a different story. The benefit of smart loot dropping so often is that you find stuff for the character you are playing more often, which is great for gearing it. The downside is that it means you rarely find something that is useful to your alts, save for something that rolled perfect non-class specific stats, so that you can reroll the main stat.
Perhaps it should be tuned a little more toward the middle? Or an option to tune it (within a range of reason), so that it can go from the current values, to something closer to 50/50, depending on what you are looking for.

If we're going to have the option to tune it ourselves, I'd like to be able to set it to 100% smart-drop. I don't want to see another DH cloak or Crusader Shield ever again if I can help it.
Some people are missing the point to the smart loot system. This first big reason for it is to make loot feel more rewarding. They also want you to play the game so by making items that aren't related to your class drop less often, then you actually have to go play the other classes. If you could gear all your toons up while only playing one, the game would wear itself out too fast. Everybody that wants to have the option to take off smart loot is just looking for a shortcut. Play the other classes and gear them up normally. Do it with friends or in a good party and you'll probably find it very enjoyable. It doesn't take very long at all to get T1 gear.

So many of your posts assume social engineering or something else. We're NOT telling you how to play. We're saying the EASIEST way to get your character geared. OP wants an easy way to get his alts geared. There it is. Admittedly, it may not appeal to everyone. And honestly, you can easily be T1 viable through crafted gear alone, which by the way could be done solely through playing your main.
I would love to see some changes to the loot system, but what people are forgetting is that smart loot was NOT implemented mainly for better drops for your character, but to get rid of the bots and hoarders the permeated the general chat trying to sell gold and items. AH was a good step in the right direction, and Smart Loot mostly sealed the deal in that regard. Smart Loot has completely revitalized D3, and I don't think anyone can deny that.
No one on this thread has stated that if you don't play their way you suck. Aside from my own post, where I stated twice it was just a personal opinion, meaning it was in no way reflective of what I think should actually be done, Dree was only stating that 'Hey, a really good and easy way to get an alt geared is to actually play them.' Stop trying to make arguments where there are none. No one is telling you how to play.
If you could gear all your toons up while only playing one, the game would wear itself out too fast.
Let's not be foolish and act as if going through 95% of the "gearing up" curve on six+ different characters is in any way, shape, or form entertaining. It's a drag. Having to "start over" every time is enigmatic of the "YOU CAN ONLY POSSIBLY HAVE FUN FROM KILLING MONSTERS BECAUSE I SAY SO AND ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH ME ISN'T A REAL FAN" epidemic.
Most people have "alts" to fuck around with. They want to try out builds and experience different playstyles, not go through the rigors of actually grinding gear and being super-serious about them. With build-changing legendaries being the "endgame" I don't see why it would be remotely beneficial to have people starting at square one with every alt they have. If anything that makes people LESS likely to try new characters.
Remember, this is a game, not a full-time job.
