Hi I have been away from the game for 7 months. Waiting for the expansion. I have about 1 billion gold. I just logged on today to see what the AH economy is like.
Before the AH goes down there might be some things worth loading up on. Here is what I have researched and I was wondering if people can give me insight.
1) Should I load up on tombs of secrets? They are dirt cheap and used for all sorts of crafting. It would be a pain to get them later after AH is down. Or are they useless in the expansion? Any crafting reagant worth spending on before the expansion?
2) Is it worth getting gems or are higher lvl gems very abundunt in the expansion?
3) I have moderate gear right now. My monk can solo MP7-8 and can do MP10 runs with the right team. Should I invest in better gear to get a ahead start in the expansion of will most of this gear be useless? Thanks.
1) No, all crafting materials will become obsolete as soon as you hit level 61 because there will be a new tier of crafting materials. Blizzard specifically said they don't want crafting materials to be carried over (roughly paraphrased).
2) Don't spend a single gold coin on gems. Marquise gems drop in the expansion like Flawless Square do now. It'll all be wasted.
3) Yes, gear will be useless, and with MP7/8 gear you'll be able to level on Master (solo) for about 80% of act 5. You'll finish the rest on Expert and replace most of your gear within hours after buying RoS, and 100% after a couple of weeks.
There are only two things that carry over: 1) Paragon experience and 2) gold. However, paragon experience seems to be much easier to level once RoS hits, and gold will not be the limiting factor, but materials (most of them BoA) will be. So... just hold still and wait, don't spend any ridiculous amount of money now on anything.
Demonic essences also carry over, so those are also worth saving to some extend I guess. Not sure how much of those, or how much gold would be good to have. I'm saving around 500mil gold and 500 demonics. The leftovers I will be crafting with.
As far as I know, you can still reroll rare legacy items. But I read somewhere it's no longer possible to reroll stats on legacy legendaries. Which now makes a lot of top gear obselete. I was holding on to my mempo cause it was still very hard to get upgrades there from what I saw. But seems you can't count on ANYTHING anymore. They change stuff so much that it's almost impossible to prepare for RoS. Just earn paragon and forget about the rest.
You have to think that they are banking on getting all the players who quit back. And people don't like to play at a disadvantage to the rest of the community, so they do everything they can to even the playing field, making it as hard as possible for us to gain any sort of advantage grinding it out up untill RoS hits.

By "carry over" I meant "have at least some value left on level 70". Not the case for Demonic Essences - completely useless on level 70, just like all other materials and gems. Demonic Essences will be replaced with Death's Breath in RoS, a new tier of BoA material drop.
Crafting and enchanting while playing 1-60 is still relevant i would get a minimum of 1000 per mat (remember all current normal-inferno tiers will become the same current inferno tier that will be usable from 1-60). i myself have gotten 5000 of each, even if i don't use em they where dirt cheep.
As for items, and gems i have only saved what i currently have had, no point in upgrading or spending gold/money on gems and items.
as for plans if your into that sort of collecting it could be a vise idea to buy everything you feel is worth it, (you can probably get all yellow patterns pretty cheep)
there are mixed answers on patterns in RoS ATM some say that no duplicates will be dropped after you have found one, great if you have almost everything as you will have a higher chance to get the "rare" patterns.
But the general thumb rule is to save as much gold as possible, as almost everything but gold from Vanilla will be useless after a few days played.

I agree that crafting and old materials will be useful for 1-60, but you should also mention that 1) leveling gets even faster with RoS, so players are likely to spend only a few couple of hours leveling a new char and 2) with enchanting and the lowered crafting costs, you only need very few materials if you want to level with crafted items, and those mats can probably even be farmed along with leveling.
Sure, you can put "some" materials somewhere on a twink in case you feel like leveling some characters and artificially increasing the pre-70 experience (not wear any bonus XP gear, level on normal). But I would certainly not spend any 7 digit figures of gold on any of this stuff as it will only occupy the limited storage space on your account. Most people don't level up themselves but get dragged by a highlevel player. I'd go so far to say that 99% of all players will never touch any pre-70 materials a day after RoS is released.
Can you transfer gold across accounts? I have my gold split between a dummy account and a main account. Or Should I move all the gold over to my main account right now? Thanks.
I bought Blackthorne ammys that have %life and 2 handed swords for Crusador (Maximus, Grandfather). Get a hellfire before you buy expansion...that will help speed up your levelling on first few days. Sell all items that you don't use on main character. Because you will end up getting stuff from your friends in CO-OP.

Currently we cannot. It might change though, no final word on gold and gems being BoA (as they are currently). If in doubt just transfer most of it.
Hmm is it a good idea to sell off all gems? Even the best ones that I have equipped?
Although leveling is quick, you want some basic start gear. Don't sell everything just yet, keep some gems. Kind of depends how much gold you have. You probably want to keep some relatively high level gems on your main (2nd or 3rd highest tier or so).
Can't enchant legacy items, ensuring the vast majority will be useless soon after level cap, so I wouldn't buy items.
The crafting mats that you'd get from the conversion of the ones available on the AH now drop like crazy, where as the bottle necking ones don't drop yet, so I wouldn't buy any mats.
The highest gem tier now drops at lvl 61+ in torment + so gems are out of the question.
Pretty much the only thing I'd ever recommend to buy right now would be crafting plans, BUT they drop in a good amount in 2.0.1, and there's updated versions as well.
Even Paragon XP sounds pretty useless now compared to what you earn at 70. Having level 60 alts ready to go might be nice if you don't have all five classes yet, but then again it'll be faster and more fun to level alts in RoS. In other words nothing matters at all, just do whatever you want.

And no, legacy items cannot be enchanted.http://www.diablofans.com/news/47930-legacy-items-no-longer-enchantable-stash-size

No, Common Debris is pointless past level 61. There's a new tier of crafting materials, the white level 61+ material is called Reusable Parts.
Once again: Besides some basic gear/gems, a few million gold, and paragon XP everything will be useless very soon in RoS.
sell immediately all gems that are worth something. we are 4 weeks away from patch 2.0.1...

TLDR; Save your golds.
