I'm back from an extended time away from Diablo - too many games, too little time.
I dumped a few hundred thousand gold in a cheap dps set for my sorceress, switched from the old blizzard/venom hydra build to archon, and jumped back into the game to begin my paragon leveling with rather low EHP and about 90k dps fully buffed.
Now, I'm completely broke (as in 400k gold, sold about all I had before leaving, it paid for my Mists of Pandaria digital version), and looking for a good way to farm exp/items/gold. I'm currently trying my hand at Alkaizer's route on MP1, but is there something more balanced when you're looking for items and gold as well?
Also, is the hellfire ring really worth it for a lvl 60 char, and how long (depending on luck, obviously) does it take to craft one when you're playing alone?
Hey welcome back. Firstly I would advise looking into crafting before spending any money on gear. Most commonly people craft braces and amulets for themselves in these slots and they can potentially be BiS items.
Depending on what level of MP you are capable of playing on will determine how quickly you can craft a hellfire ring. It took me about two weeks on MP5 which equated to a total of 12 infernal machines before I had everything I needed. A lot of people use the rings as they can be quite exceptional especially for followers if the stats that roll for you aren't perfect, but most high end geared players usually have surpassed them unless it's a perfect roll.
Either way, farming for the keys is usually quite fun to do in my opinion, it gives you a short time goal to work towards and there are many strategies you can follow to farm quickly and effectively, and with the monster density changes in 108 it should make it less laborious to do so. I put on over 20 paragon levels just doing key runs in the two weeks leading to crafting my first ring and it felt effortless to do so.
In terms of farming in general, act 3 runs were the norm but again with 108 and monster density changes we are likely to see new routes be shown by players as being the most efficient if you are that sort of player, otherwise just pick acts or areas you enjoy.
I am sure others may have something to offer in the way of advice, I just wanted to share my point of view. Hope you enjoy your comeback
Thanks for the input. I was considering running act 3 for a bit, but it sounds more interesting to do per-act runs to hunt for both the 1.0.7 plans and the keys.
I'm rather comfortable on MP1 right now, so I'm looking forward to a looong grind, but hey, I'm not in a hurry
Please make sure to also visit the wizard forum for builds and gearing advices, almost everything you need is there.
Coming back from there, studied the builds for a while, but I'm not comfortable with CMWW. Might try black ice again come 1.0.8, though.
for instance i would change the mempo with a good andariel, the dps is far bigger just search for one with under 10% fire dmg take.
I've got an old one, but IIRC I got better damage on my cheap Mempo. I'll check again this evening.
As my personal advice, firstly i would change the chest you can find far better instead of tyrael and you don't need the movement speed on chest since a low roll inna pants are still a great dps improve and also give movement speed.
I picked Tyrael as a cheap replacement for an old rare with decent vit, since I intend to replace my pants. Yep, they're a *legacy* Inna
finally, instead of the skorn, i personally preffer 1h with source, the 9-10 crit chance on offhand is a bliss, and you can find 950+ dps weps with life steal and socket quite cheap.
I bought a very cheap triumvirate and chantodo's wand to try CMWW, but I have yet to find a decent 1H black weapon that I can afford at this point. Still looking, though!
oh i forgot, if you want add me at: zorgmeister#2199 EU server, i'll give you 5-8 mils or if you want i can buy 5-8 mils items worth and give you, no charge for that
That's extremely generous of you.
However, I enjoy doing things by myself, and your answer in itself is worth much more than the gold
About Hellfire rings , they are very good and they are a must for every player with paragon level less than 100 , because they let you reach higher paragon levels faster even if they lower your dps abit they are still better , reaching higher paragon levels means more gold drops , almost every pack at higher paragon levels drops a rare or 2 , more legendary drops overall and you get more stats , 300 int 200 vit 100 str/dex is a great combination of stats , thats alot of life/armor/dodge and dmg increase , you can always find Uber farming groups , I am sure you can also find somebody to carry you through Higher MP to get rings from ubers.
If you want I can help you farm keys and do ubers , I am always looking for somebody to play with and I can farm fast in mp9-10 , I can also do normal runs through act1-3 very fast on higher MP and now with 1.08 I will be doing more runs in public or with friends.
So to sum it up , if you are interested , add me I am looking forward to play in 1.08 tomorrow and I want a group to play with ematanis#2121.
Welcome back, sir. I made a couple posts about this "coming back - need tips" subject a couple days ago. I'll quote them below if you're interested in reading them.
Since you've left, there has been a big overhaul to many Legendary items. Not only they're a lot more competitive with rares now, but in most cases, their base stats make them the absolute best way to gear up while in a budget.
There are other decent Legendaries that are not mentioned there (like Shenlong fists) which can roll decently. You can check the Official Guide for those.
Yellows only sell on the AH if their stats are on par with the baseline stats of the aforementioned Legendaries (which means insanely low chances).
> Chests, One-handed Weapons, Rings, Amulets, Pants and Belts (with high EHP rolls) are all worth picking up imho.
> Class specific rares are heavily shadowed by their Legendary counterparts (Sources, Mojos, Cloaks, Mighty Belts)
> which makes them only good to make some gold through vendoring
In the current version of the game, Act 3 is a lot more densely populated than the other Acts. It is common knowledge that farming Act 3 has a much better efficiency. You should probably farm it on a Monster Power that you're comfortable.
> Farming on a MP that you can one-shot mobs (usually MP 2-3) is better for Legendary farming (also said to be more efficient in general).
> This should change with patch 1.0.8 (with heavy changes to monster density).
IIRC you have to activate the Monster Power feature on the Options menu (similar to how you activate Elective Mode).
Other things:
The way item-lvl and affixes are calculated has changed as well (ilvl related to monster-lvl).
Higher Monster Powers wield much higher exp-bonuses (they might even be better for Paragon farming).
Resplandecent Chests are now affected by NV stacks and MF (not sure) - they're a free elite.
Public games have quite a few people playing them - give it a try, it's quite fun. Plus you can choose a MP for them now.
You can get a Hellfire Ring now. It's a quest that has you chasing Key Wardens and killing Ubers for a chance at a very good ring that has high-base mainstat and +35% exp bonus.
Public Games (and the Chat channel Looking for Group) is a great way to get people to do Ubers.
Ok so first the big one... what in the worlds happened to the prices of things on the AH since like before 1.04 or something (pre-inferno nerf... been gone awhile lol).
Before 1.0.4? That's like end of August, right?
Well, let's just say that everyone who kept playing kept on upgrading their gear, and selling their old stuff to other people, who kept playing and upgrading their own gear, and so on.
The insane amount of drops by people playing 1k+ hours, paired with the fact that some Legendaries got really good base stats, paired with the fact that people who didn't want MF got quite a bit of it with Paragon lvls (hence more Legendaries and better Rares), paired with the fact that there's no item sink for "good+" items - means that the bottom quality of items (the base stats to be considered "useful) has improved by a considerable magnitude.
Second, while I get the whole paragon levels and MP stuff... How "important" is it really towards things? Like if everything is equal, no gear changes etc, how big a difference is it at level 1 vs 10?
If you have maximum Magic Find on Paragon 1, the difference is none, except maybe for the extra stats (which can be a decent dps boost).
If you have 0 MF currently, then the difference is insane, specially when it comes to Legendary drops. That's why people "farmed" Paragon levels when it first came out. Because their farming afterwards was going to be much better.
On that note, what are some of the "good" farm routes/places to level up paragon anyways? I've looked around and it seems like a popular one is the spiders in Crater level 2?
Indeed. There's a very popular route name after the player Alkaizer. Easy to find.
Take not that with patch 1.0.8, though, those routes might change. Because previous Acts will have improved density, farming anywhere is technically possible.
Edit: Also, I've been reading a little about the Infernal Machine thingy and key runs... But one thing I can't find out easily is places to get 5 stacks of vapor in each act. Of course obviously it's probably way too early for me to be running any MP yet, but still be interested in knowing.
Act 1: Festering Woods - will probably get you anywhere from 3 to 5 Nephalem "Vapor" stacks. Leoric's Manor waypoint can also have up to 3 elites. Act 2: Black Canyon Mines - can get you anywhere from 2 to 4 NV stacks. Very popular place as well, little randomization. Act 3: any "Tower" area is good for elites (again, little randomization) and so is the Bridge.
Well, I'd like to thank all of you for the welcome and for the tips, and in particular a huge thank you to Zorgmeister who gave me some very nice items in addition to the useful advice.
I'm now doing comfortable MP2 archon runs with 140k dps buffed, built my first infernal machine, and just hit paragon lvl 10 ... 90 more to go
Just read this, can't wait to put these tips to work once I start playing again tonight. Rebooting this game after leaving it shortly after release, I feel that I abruptly left without really getting into the game.
