I've been thinking about it but I'm wondering if I should bother spending all that time cause I know I will probably strangle myself if I screw up. I just got a new pc ,,,,my old one would lag when I played but this one is awesome that's why I'm wondering if I should give it a go. Anyone on here love/hate the hardcore playing style?
I am a bit of a carebear but decided to give hardcore a go. My 1st character a monk I got to lvl 51 and died to the 1st elite pack in Hell. The elite pack was in a cellar with the extra minion affix can't remember the other 2 affix's. Funny thing was I got back to the door with the majority of the mobs on half health and decided to go back in and finish them off. Got surrounded with no CD's and watched my health dwindle with most of the mobs near death :(. Thought I would be angry at myself but I wasn't too bad. My new monk is now lvl 30 and I have learnt a lot from that death.
I am liking it a lot more than SC as it gives you that rush when you are near death and come out of an encounter alive.
HC is fun but keep in mind it's a different play style, SC is more about thousands of deaths and progressing through inferno, where HC is more about safing, you won't have near the DPS you have in SC, and the Gah items sell for quite a bit more than in SC. My hc barb died at 53 also, champ pack in a cellar, got trapped.. I had 40k at the time but i realize i should have played it safer.
On the other hand there is that rush or feeling you get when you go into a boss lair, knowing that only one of you will leave alive, no teleports only way out is death or killing your opponent.
I recomend having a SC char to progress through later acts of Inferno and a HC char to go slower through the game, and enjoy it.
Blizzard servers have caused alot of HC deaths lately, we had a bad spike yesterday which caused me to die in Sc.
HC so much more fun than SC imo.
Even though I've died twice already on my hc barb, once at 57, and once at 60 while farming act 1 inferno. newest barb at 56 atm. Trick is if you get to max lvl and are serious about HC, to have a backup set at hand, or at least a bit of gold in the bank.
A little tip for those with a bad computer or connection, only play solo, so if you get a lag spike or whatever just hit escape to pause the game for a bit to let your pc/connection stabilize. Saved me a couple of times personally, and not being able to do this killed me twice on lower lvl chars while grouping.
Edit: as a side note, I don't actually have a barb on SC. So it's not entirely required to have a SC char, at least not before act 2 inferno. At that point, I imagine having a SC char to test new bosses on in similar gear might be required.
Personally I find it boring. You do the same things you'd do in normal mode, just at 10% of the speed. Yawn.
If you do go for it, I'd suggest not playing a DH. The slightest bit of lag, and a DH dies - and the lag & ensuing rubberbanding in this game is constant. In fact if you don't play a DH in softcore, you might not realize just how bad the lag is, but it's ever-present, believe me.
If there was offline mode, i'd love to play it, but with as much as i rubberband, and with all the stuff i hear about people dying due to blizzard's servers......i would think twice before you decide.

This. This. And more This.
I don't see the point in HC to be completely honest, you punish yourself if you die by deleting your "Save File" It'd be like going and playing Donkey Kong Country until you die to that one stray spike that you forgot was there and then deleting your save file cause you fucked up.
Slow Paced game play, mistakes are punished harshly, forced into a 100% survivability spec. Not my cup of tea but that's probably because I enjoy being reckless/quick paced.
I am mainly a sc barb player that plays an hc barb on the side. I think the more careful play on HC actually makes you a more skilled player, since you have to play more slowly you learn more nuances of gameplay. As for bosses it was not until I started training on my softcore char to beat them on hc that I refined my timings on attacks and such, now I notice a lot of ppl I play with standing in the fire, not dodging attacks and such that I used to do before...so even if you are mostly a sc guy I think hc can help you become more skilled overall and besides it feels like a new adventure... so i'd say go for it!
I can kind of understand hardcore, and I like how it can keep the economy stable. But for playing it I just don't think I can, people say it makes death mean something, but I don't play SC and TRY to die, I do everything I can to stay alive, dodge attacks, stay out of fire etc. granted some deaths are because i get cocky and stuff, but sometimes that adds to the fun of it, throwing yourself in a big group and say, I wonder if I can make it out of here.

Yep. One misstep on a champ pack, getting stuck against a wall, blinking... anything can kill you on a DH. Lag = kthxbai
I didn,t thought i'd love so much HC, with all the lag and people dying because of blizz's servers, but tried it iand i'm having a blast with my lvl 34 wizard on NM ATM, forces you to try different build, go slowly etc. also when killing a pack that nearly killed you is AWESOME the feeling you have then, is just really good. Also bosses are way more interesting as someone pointed out it's the ''2 man enters, one man leaves'' thing.
another real fun thing i'd though was boring, was to re-level your artisans, your stash etc, in SC every char I create has inferno gems when I can socket things making things way too easy, suddenly those ''socketed ring', are like the best item available pretty much I have like too many health/DPS for that lvl and one shot everything, in HC this isn't possible (at least not at your first char) making A2 somewhat harder in normal/nightmare, because you have gems, you were meant to have in normal/NM.
i'd say try it and see for yourself, but play a class you know well enough, and don't bitch at blizz if you happen to die, just start again

just kidding, I removed it.
