In previous Diablo games once you cleared a quest or act you could go to any of them again in a new game without having to re-do the quests. In Diablo III, every single time you start a new game you have to tell the game what quest you want to re-do. This is a chore because now if you want to do any kind of boss runs or specific event runs, then you have to make a new game specific to each one. Oh, also if you choose to do Skeleton King then you have to re-do EVERY quest all the way to Diablo for that difficulty.
Oh another thing, I hate that I can't use waypoints to travel between acts anymore. Blizzard wants to hold my hand and slap it whenever I go against it's wishes.
Auction House
Because of the fact that very few people understand the value of items and gold, you can purchase items for either insanely good or crazy bad deals. It's an out, especially if you get to a part you can't beat and hate farming. Now the Auction House will let you buy progress essentially. It's great for casual players, but it makes the game feel like what's the point of farming if you can just spend a little gold and instantly be able to get out of Nightmare.
Now before you start flaming me, let me just say that this is the best Diablo game ever when it comes to co-op play. I've never had more fun and almost every one I've met will be helpful. Teamwork is essential, most people will shift+left click items in chat that they find so we can see if they are better for us.
I'm a little torn, on one hand I actually cried on the first play through. The game is just that good. But at the same time, I cringe when I see all the little areas where it could be even better. I'm criticizing, not whining. I would be interested to see if anyone else agrees or disagrees. Please post to back up your perspective.
I hear what you're saying. The itemization model is quite different with even legendaries having random affixes, which I think goes hand in hand with the functionality of the AH. (Edit - Meaning, we may never see the PERFECT weapon with the maximum numbers in all the best affixes, so everyone will always have room for an incrimental upgrade).
I expect the crazy price fluctuation will settle down soon. People just didn't know where to start. You have limited auctions, and a 48 cancellation lock-out. I bet by the end of next week, prices will start to make sense where yeah you can buy progression, but gold will be a meaningful resource that takes time to acquire relevant to the progression you're making.
I think they could probably have executed the system a little smoother, but seeing as how I am actually interested in making a little pocket money out of the game, I like the wrinkles. Wrinkles favor the economically savvy.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.

Definitely, I've made tons of gold by selling yellows on the AH. Pretty much any yellow I find that I can't use I sell on the AH.
Well the idea was to keep people from just grinding certain areas, so yes, the downfall is that if you want to kill the king you've got to re-do a bunch of quests. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't drop anything cool after the first take-down anyway, at least nothing better than what can be had killing elite monsters in other areas.
Enjoy the co-op mode while you can. After the newness wears off it probably won't be the same. After the beta was out for awhile coop turned into people just racing through areas, and I saw a few bots spamming URLs, which is oh so not fun.

I don't mind re-doing the quest, but why does it reset my progress FOREVER. Not just for that game, but any game after that I have to re-do the entire game. It's stupid.

That doesn't sound right.. Are you unable to change quest after starting one?
Let's say I beat Diablo on normal. If I make a normal game with the quest to kill Skeleton King, then I lose all progress past SK. If I make another game, it's still on SK.
As far as I know, if you've completed all acts on normal, you should be able to select whatever quest you want on any act. If you leave the game, just choose 'change quest' instead of 'resume game' and you can re-pick whatever quest you want to do. So it doesn't lose your entire progress in the sense that you can't go to act3 if you chose an act1 quest. You should still be able to pick. At least that's how it worked in the beta. I'm not far enough to say how it works currently - I'm only speculating.
I agree with the OP. Would be nice to have custom games not tied to quests. It is nice being able to redo quests with friends, but the lack of permanency on that and waypoints can be a bugger.
Also yeah, the AH has basically made my life 10x easier. The deals are amazing and it's COMPLETELY changed the game compared to Diablo 2. Perfect stats 40 DPS 1h level 26 item = 5k gold... DEAL!
