posted a message on Why make a game where skill doesnt matter?
I find it extremely annoying that people would be under the assumption that if you've progressed as far as Act2 or 3 INFERNO (the 4th level of difficulty, mind you) that you still need to "learn how to play."

    That's just utter nonsense.

The game is broken in that it assumes that you need help from other users (the AH, trading, etc..) to progress. The Diablo series has always been about hack n' slash, item finding goodness - and you could do it all on your own if you pleased. Sure it might take you longer but you could find some pretty decent items. Up until D3, where you can play 103840318413 hrs and still find nothing useful for your level.

I find it laughable that people think you should have to go read some "spec build" or "spreadsheet" to progress in this game. That mindset will turn anyone off. Choke points? Yes, because for every difficult mob I really want to find a small doorway to kill them off one at a time..so THAT's what this game was made into.. no thanks.

posted a message on Im i the only one that thinks d3 is amazing?
Diablo 3 looks nice.. I won't say it's a "great game." I think if you've put maybe a month's worth of play time into D2 you might think so. There are several things that just break the fun of the game.

The UI is terrible. The original UI (which listed skills in 3 separate categories, ALL on the same tab) was stellar. It was done away with for fear that "new/casual gamers" would find it confusing.

There are no memorable items. After playing D2 for a month you could at least name 5-10 "must-have" items or at least 5-10 set/unique items. I can't even name one in D3.

You don't find your own gear. You really need to use the AH to find any gear worth using. The best thing about D2 was that you could go kill Mephisto and find a Shako or an Occulus and almost wet your pants from excitement. I see now why they took out unidentifying scrolls for D3. Because if I had to spend money to unidentify so many useless items I'd go berserk.

Now along with the bad I will mention the things that I like, so my comments aren't completely nonconstructive.

I do like the fact that you can pick any 6 skills you want, at any time. I also like that there are a lot more champions/elites wandering around (even though your chances of finding anything good from them is rare) I also think the characters look pretty cool as you gear up, and having dyes does help. I'm also a big fan of being able to teleport to wherever your friends are in the game at any time.

My DH hasn't hit 60 yet, so I've never used Nether Tentacles. I find the frost elemental arrow that splits into 3 very useful at slowing down/dealing dmg to mobs in Hell just fine.

So basically what blizzard is saying is that if you can't kill the guy in 3 minutes, you're effed.

    Quote from Nacho_ijp

In a lot of parts I got the feeling that blizz was trying to capture the nostalgia part of D1 and D2 but they couldn't make it to the expectations, at least they tried guess :S

Agreed.. no thought put into bringing back the nostalgia without blatantly throwing it in there. The only cool reference I enjoyed was the Old Tristram road that led to the town. At least it was laid out the way it was in D1. D2's Tristram wasn't even close.

I can't see them bringing back any character classes as references. That just doesn't make any sense.

OP is spot on. Random item bonuses means every item has a greater chance of being a big ol' piece of crap.

Need higher drop rates for sets, then maybe add unique sets that are much rarer. At least then you'd feel some reward.. I remember finding Sigon's set in d2 multiple times.. felt good every time..at least I saw a green item every now and then. Here it's just mindless blues and crap yellows.

Using animosity as a passive, and the Wind Shear rune (gain 1 fury each enemy struck) for WW, you can maintain a pretty good amount of Fury in large crowds. The only problem is that WW doesn't do much damage.

As far as I know, if you've completed all acts on normal, you should be able to select whatever quest you want on any act. If you leave the game, just choose 'change quest' instead of 'resume game' and you can re-pick whatever quest you want to do. So it doesn't lose your entire progress in the sense that you can't go to act3 if you chose an act1 quest. You should still be able to pick. At least that's how it worked in the beta. I'm not far enough to say how it works currently - I'm only speculating.

Well the idea was to keep people from just grinding certain areas, so yes, the downfall is that if you want to kill the king you've got to re-do a bunch of quests. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't drop anything cool after the first take-down anyway, at least nothing better than what can be had killing elite monsters in other areas.

Enjoy the co-op mode while you can. After the newness wears off it probably won't be the same. After the beta was out for awhile coop turned into people just racing through areas, and I saw a few bots spamming URLs, which is oh so not fun.

I think there's enough tool-tips and help-info for anyone to pick up the game and play. They might die once or twice figuring it out, but they'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

I think it's kind of cool that the game can appeal to someone who normally wouldn't play it. At least that gives us a wide variety of gamers to game with.

The frog comment is pretty funny. :P
