So I was playing around with the skill calculator and decided to make a bad witch doctor. I made myself take at least on skill from each type. I also made sure I was making a bad character not a dumb one (such as taking scarifice dogs with no dogs). I ended up with a WD with a lot of crowd control and virtually no damage.
I started playing with other chars skill calc and created more bad characters. Then something weird happened. I actually started looking forward to trying this combinations that I think are terrible and seeing how they will work. I have already decided that if I hit a wall I will replace my best skill with the skill next up on the board (that way I am still using some of the worst skills by my perception).
Now I will probably get one of each of my chars to level 60 before I try this but what do you guys think? I'm a crazy, a masochist, insane?
Different approach to game then usual for sure. It's not bad to try out this kind of stuff once you finished/enjoyed in game, i mean no really harm and who knows might even be fun, since will be trying out combinations no one is really trying who knows what will it turn into, well except for sacrificing dogs with out dogs and so, that things cant really help, but otherwise trying out stuff is never a bad thing.
Don't use the elective mode and then see what terrible combinations you can come up with from that. This way you won't be taking all crowd control and will be forced to mix things up.
I think it's a good idea to play games not quite as they were intended..it's fun and can be challenging.
Some examples:
fun: my brother was playing a navy flight simulator and decided to fly upside down over the aircraft carrier and hit the pilot eject button. I still laugh about that one.
challenging: in vanilla wow, rolled a toon, stripped it bare and sold everything, had enough to buy herbalism skill, picked just enough stuff to have a bit of cash to start buying/reselling things on the Auction House..got up to 20Gold (which was quite a lot back in vanilla wow days) and still level 1 before I deleted the toon... oh and I named the toon "Apprentice"..old Donald would be proud.
I can definitely see playing a bad skilled character once I've played it normally. Could also see playing a HC character with really bad equipment to see how far they will survive. Or even a ranged (wizard) with no equipment.
I always enjoyed making retarded builds in Diablo 2 with my friends and then running through the game to see how we did. It adds a new level of difficulty to the game. And sometimes you find things that on paper you wouldn't expect to be very effective, but turn out to not be so bad and a lot of fun.
This will be the way I level, I have never been a fan of theorycrafting. At least not theorycrafting when I should be having a hacknslashy good time. So I will try most combos just to find the one that suits me best. I say me, but I ofcourse mean my monk. Hes awesome and not at all like the other monks.
I believe that if you are having fun and playing how you want to play, there is no "bad build". Building different ways would really help in finding out how different builds work for every situation. Sometimes your normal build will get boring also and creating a character just for a new build ain't hurting anyone haha.

eg
pet wd with no direct damage skills
wizard with no signature spells and bad arcane regen
seems fun and challenging haha
