I made a post earlier asking people to specify the class they are going to play and the reasons behind it: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/34809-what-class-and-why/. I was amazed at the amount of attention it received from the community in just a couple of hours. To continue and contribute to yesterday’s topic [“What class and why?”] I will like to go further into the actual meat of the game. At the end of the day, we all want to play D3 for one sole reason—gameplay. When the game finally shines upon us, will you be playing by yourself or with friends? Why did you pick solo play over co-op or vice versa?
I originally intended to enjoy the game to its’ fullest by playing it by myself: go through as much lore content as humanly possible, take my time and explore/wonder around, ensure not to miss the delightful scenarios Blizzard has crafted. Yet, when I looked at the overall picture there was a void. Something was missing. Diablo 3 will not be as meaningful or convey the same experience if I play solo rather than with friends. Diablo 3’s building blocks are co-op. It is true that D3 is a single player game too, but the joy and fun of Diablo is slaying demons with friends. I hate PvE but Diablo has an addictive nature to it. Diablo ensures that you will fall in love with hack and slash. Without friends any game is just a game; so at midnight, when D3 is released, I am positive I will be slaying hordes of demons with my brother and two of my closest comrades.

I think it will mostly just depend on if any of my friends are online and playing or not. If they're online and close to my level, it makes it much more interesting to play alongside them and be on Skype or Teamspeak chatting.
But, playing in a public game with some random people doesn't really seem worth it just to play co-op. So I'll probably be playing singleplayer a lot eventually after the craze goes down from the game release.
Some of the greatest fun I have had is playing with friends... when I then come back and play the game as a single player the game has lost some of its shine. Humans are (read a large majority) social creatures that enjoy experiences with other humans... that is not to say there aren't times when people need some alone time... so yes when my friends are online I will be playing co-op as much as I can... when they aren't online I will probably alternate between solo and co-op dependent on how annoying the population as a whole will be and how tolerant I am feeling at the time.
MF/GF leechers might kill public co-ops for me. I'm sure that I'll try them out but it probably won't be my norm unless leechers are rare and skilled pugs are the norm.
But, yeah, if my friends are on then we'll be grouping.
It'll all depend on how the comunity turns out and how interacting with others is handled.
Today i was playing the Mass Effect 3 demo with one of my friends online. It took for-ever to find some extra people to join so we just started with us two and some random dude. Anyways, we started off, did pretty badly but the other guy stayed. After about 5 or 6 matches, we finally got to round 10. I thought we'd finished, but you have to hold out a drop zone for about 2 mins. I died...but this exta guy, Ramero i think he was called, saved the entire team and we beat it.
That was such a good feeling though, teaming up with a total stranger and beating something with 3 people that's meant for 4. If Diablo 3 can re-create some of that, without the need for voice chat or even talking, i'll be very happy. If the second you step into a game and you're confronted with "LOL noob barb is using 2 handers!" then i'll not bother playing.

I think I'm going for both simultaneously. In diablo I & II I always enjoyed playing with brothers , but you know you must play alone sometimes.to bad we cant play all us of at the same time we are 5 brothers, so someone have to play alone (hope its not me )
I will be playing both coop and single, just depends on the mood. That being said, if I am in a coop game and noone is speaking, I'll probably just drop out and goto another (maybe single) game.
I really don't see the point of playing with other characters if theres no communication.
Best fun I had was with mates, always funny seeing them die in hardcore to silly things such as 'lag'!

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
I will be co-oping with a group of three friends, we made groups for playthroughs in D2 and im sure that will carry over. but ill also admit ill prob make a character just to solo because they seemed to have made solo a little more appealing then it was in D2 since all the skills seem to be viable the whole time and it would be fun to see how far you get by yourself with your own build
I will play with my co-op team whenever I can and solo when they are not online This game is fun with friends in hardmode. Theorycrafting and strategies along with the friends priceless.
In the start I'll probably play with friends, and then have a separate solo chars if somebody aren't around.
I don't plan to play much in public games.
Doubt I'll manage to convince any of them to play HC mode sadly, so that will be pure sadistic soloing.
playing whit friends is the absolute best fun start a new character at the same time, play it together never alone (playing it alone is so lame to the other friend!) but be sure not to make it hardcore :), tbh, i dont find it that fun when me and my friend play a while and then he or me sidea att lvl 40 in d2, there the other one cant play untill the friend have leveld a new character to 40 again... solo play for a week :/
i reccomend not harcore when playing coop whit friends. else, always hardcore
I will probably do my first play-through, at least just one difficulty, by myself. That is unless one of my friends specifically asks me to play with them. I can't imagine I would want to play by myself more than with friends or even just random people in general. That's what makes Diablo great, slaying the forces of hell with buddies or making some new buddies whilst doing so!
Co-op all the way for me. Playing alone can be just as fun at times, but generally it's a lot more enjoyable for me to be playing with others. I almost begin to feel lonely at times playing alone, knowing I could be playing with other people. It definitely keeps it more interesting. Plus, there are huge advantages of playing with others and the biggest disadvantage has been taken away with drops working the way they do. I probably will ONLY play with other people in D3. What are the advantages of playing alone?
I will play co op but probably only with one of my friends, for the most part ill be playing away all by myself destroying demons.
The major part of co op for me will be achievement hunting and playing the hours away while chatting on skype. I am a little worried about Inferno difficulty etc not sure if it will be completely soloable.
Anyone know any info on this?
bliz said they planned inferno in a way that it's soloable, but not a walk in the park.
I'm fine with either. Originally I expected to be playing solo, because none of the people I surround myself with match my interest in diablo (most of them played D2 just a little bit). However, my enduring diehard enthusiasm for D3 seems to have seeped into their minds like Mephisto's hatred seeped into Travincal, and we're currently planning a launch LAN party
i am all for lan parties, but if u didn't know yet bliz said there won't be a lan option - however if u meant lan party as having friends over each with their computer and playing together through the internet. than my bad and go for it!
as for the main topic here: i am planning to go solo till some1 of my friends r online and if they want i will play with them - as for me the best experience is co-op and skill "synergy" with the other players.
however in most cases when it comes to co-op u can't fully experience the story and lore, cuz it takes time - so i will be going through the story with some of my chars as solo.
ofc if i see i am out lvling my friend or vice versa i will adjust accordingly rather if i open a new char or i will ask my friend to open a new 1. or join with more or less same lvl char.
and when it comes to play with strangers i must likely will do that after i have a more hold on how the game goes and how my class work. cuz even if i will meet some less social and friendly ppl i will sure meet some who r social and friendly ppl non the less.
as for personal advantage on co-op and not for the playstyle experience - if u join a grp of ppl which r rly good than the killing goes faster and u have more item drops each hour. so thats also a good thing about co-op.
For me its a two way street. I loved playing Diablo 2 solo, playing each act to progress that story was the driving force behind me playing the game originally. Now though I play a lot more games with the wife then alone (just don't ask her to play shooters, she sucks) and am very looking forward to a co-op Diablo 3.
Something tells me though I will be running a wizard through with her and either a barb or a monk for my solo (leaning toward monk) thus getting best of both worlds.
This time around they made it nearly a neccessity to play with other people. You get more xp, more drops, and you clear the game much faster. Couple that with the fact that bosses are not worth as much since the other rare mobs can drop the same. Then to throw in a third and most important fact is that Blizz already stated that Inferno was impossible solo and required teamwork to make it past the first act. The only gear that will matter is what drops in Inferno so you will have to play as a team. I think it will be insanely important to find friends and in communities like here to play with......and get a Vent server

Sometimes you don't always know where you stand... until you know that you won't run away.
I'll be playing co-op for SURE! it's the best way to play a diablo game, run around smashing stuff with your best bud? nothing better then that. especially when you both know what your doing and love the diablo series. its just a fun way to play, two different classes meshing together supporting each other with different skills and such.
but unfortunately i don't have any friends. fml. forever alone haa.
