I remember when playing the demo at blizzcon 2008 that when you were in Tristram there was a scene where a villager was standing outside a house and next to a cellar. She gets pulled into the cellar, you hear her scream and fountain of blood shoots out.
I feel like the beta really lacks the atmosphere the original demo had. And that was while playing in a loud convention center.
What makes you think it's not in the game anymore? Maybe the Beta simply doesn't have any and all cool elements of the gameplay. But having the small animation of Cain running from the SK... Well obviously there are more like this further into the game.
You make reference to a fountain of blood and the "atmosphere" (dark i'm assuming) that is not present in the beta. This is probably the most violent scene in the beta:

Offtopic ... If I wouldn't know, that game is from Blizzard? I would not even try, to play this game, graphicas from 2004...
Sory I coldn't hold back. // BUT DUDE DUDE !!!! THIS IS DIABLO THE GRAPH DOES NOT MATHER!!!! //
I know, but realy. If you would not know, that is Diablo game, insted random Pic from MMO world...
Soooo, every game in a sequel needs to look like it's past games? If you had no idea what D1 or D2 looked like, there's only a very slim chance that you'd guess they were of the same title.
Please, for my sake so I don't need to write you a 3 paragraph essay again, just go look up the arguments for graphics.
@OP; They did spend a lot of time taking stuff out of the beta, or so they've stated. I'm willing to guess when we play the first act at release it's going to be a lot different =D

That might be part of the Unique death animations.

I don't believe so imo. I think the unique death animations are solely for events such as a boss killing one of the heroes.
There are still death animations, like depending on what type of damage kills the target, their animation is different. Lightning will blacken and char the demon, ice will freeze and explode, and so on. But something like this is scripted for just that event, and since there are still a lot of events just in that first part of act 1, I think it will still be in the release. They *might* have taken it out to tone down the gore and blood, just for the beta. Not sure tho =)

I was also thinking this since the beta is not rated and people are selected randomly, when the game is released with its M-rating, I think it will once again include all the gore with parental warning.

You dont understand what I wrote... Forget for moment diablo 1 diablo 2 diablo 3 then look at this screen. This is screenshoot from game Nenixus MMO. What you would think about in 2012? Would you like to give it a shoot? That what I meant.
Are you trying to say because of the graphics not being ultra realistic that no one would try it if they just saw this screenshot, not knowing what game it is? That's ridiculous, as i would defiantly look into this game even only seeing one screenshot.

lol. games have gotten so fail lately because they focus 90% on graphics and 10% on actual gameplay and ive gotten in the mentality that when i see an uber realistic looking game, i automatically assume it sucks. hahahaha

+1
This is so true, and in general games are way too short nowadays...
exactly. that too, they spend so much time on making it "look realistic" that they go "DOH we forgot to add 80% of the content"

From playing the beta, it feels very...hacked up. I remember Blizzard said before it went live they were working on cutting out major story elements that would spoil the game and left in just enough to keep it making sense. I dont even think where you start in the beta is really the starting point in the game. After the epic opening cinematic, I think there will be a longer intro area, explaining why you are running towards tristram instead of just "hey, you're here on this road. lets rock." There are other areas in the beta that feel like some story elements are cut out / missing and just dont flow well for the same reason. I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole game unfold as intended, vs just this mini tech-demo.

That is where you start in game I believe, however there is a opening character cinematic that we have not seen, kind of like the monk and DH only a little bit different.
