I would highly suggest you don't play Diablo 3 then. Because we've been told it's insanely similar and faithful to Diablo 2.
With that being said, this Cinematic ISN'T.
They have also said, multiple times, that they wanted to do a better job of telling the story in the game. Have you played or watched any of the better footage? You find out a lot about Leah and the town right away. They are letting you discover things as the player as opposed to just laying everything out before you meet everyone in the game.
This is how picky you are, I'll give you an example of what you'd be saying if the cinematic was exactly like Diablo 2:
"OMFG! So that cinematic happens and then what?! You spawn in a town and they don't tell you where it is?! How am I supposed to know who Gheed is? Who are these people in town? Why doesn't the cinematic tell me? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIGURE THESE THINGS OUT? Why don't I know what my initial mission is going to be? TERRIBLE CINEMATIC!"

"When men are most sure and arrogant, they are commonly the most mistaken, and have then given views to passion, without that proper deliberation and suspense which can alone secure them from the grossest absurdities"
How does people wanting Blizzard to use full CGI cinematics as opposed to sketch book style (which has been done in countless games) have ANYTHING to do with wanting to play Diablo 2 again?
So you are saying cinematics that use 'sketchbook' just can't be good? Judging from the Black Soulstone sample we had, a vast majority of the cinematics will be full CGI.
The first 30 seconds or whatever of Angels fighting Demons in some weirdly drawn artstyle tells me nothing either. It's a Diablo game. I already am fully aware of Angels and Demons fighting one another.
3. As someone who's never played Diablo before (this is an INTRODUCTION), who is Cain?
Also, I'm confused. Do you already know what's going on in the game or do you want the cinematic to tell you what's going on in the game? Since it's a Diablo game, you should know who Cain is. However, you don't want to be told about him because you're fully aware it's a Diablo game. It just seems like you want this cinematic to tell you what's new but at the same time to not tell you things you already know.

The cardboard stuff doesn't DO anything to present us to the story as CHARACTERS. It simply says "Heaven vs Hell. Kay."
Unlike in Diablo 1 and 2's intros, we see humans fighting against very real struggles, predominately DEMONS, and we see the terrifying destruction they wreak on mankind instantly with abandoned/destroyed buildings, dead bodies, monstrous catacombs, a burning tavern, people taking up arms and being slapped down, and a guy following some madman in a cloak who's probably been driven insane by nightmares.
In Diablo 3 we see some Angels and Demons fighting in Cardboard, and two people standing around and a meteor hits.

You see your character in the Diablo 2 cinematic before stopping the game? No.
Do they explain to you who any of the people are in the Diablo 2 cinematic outside of Marius, who you never see in the actual game? No.
Apparently you (or whoever is going to be saying this) is too stupid to realize that they were creating the character they would be playing at the character creation screen. They are also too dumb to realize that the 'cardboard stuff' was a drawing of what the narrator was talking about.
Good lord.
I can understand just not liking the cinematic. I get the whole "I'm not a fan of the drawing art style" thing. That's preference based. But the rest of what you are trying to lay on the cinematic is ridiculous.
Thats too bad, i was looking forward to the Full CGI part of Full CGI Cinematic. Blizzard does them better than anyone. Not a big fan of the sketches in cains book comes to life in what looks like cardboard cut outs fighting in 3D.
But we still get them, We get both, which is great. But point being, is this style is going to fit in very well with the game. We have not got to sit into the deep world of it yet, so we cant say just how well it will or will not fit at the end.
Right, I'm just saying I'd prefer the classic story telling blizzard as done which is full CGI. everyone loves them because they are masters of it. It feels a bit cheap that they used a black lines and parchment art style for half of the cinematic. That and it was really short.
Also, I get that it hints that Tyrael, the aspect of "Justice shall fall upon the earth of men" and he's the man that causes the meteor and all. but seriously:
- Why is tyrael shown in the sketch book part in full angel and armor fighting in the end times (events that are going to happen AFTER he supposedly falls to earth as man)
- Why is the Arch Angel of Justice causing the undead to rise?
- Why would he fall in the exact spot Diablo first entered the world of Sanctuary?
- Why would he, as a shooting meteor, try to land on Deckard Cain's head when he swore to protect him in the previous game (ok this one is just for fun :P)

You hear Cain talking about the end of times, showing the world is in danger. You see and hear about the fight of angels vs. demons. Then they reveal that this prophecy that he is talking about is starting to come true by the meteor crashing down to earth...
Then the game starts, where you are playing a character that knows none of these people and should have no reason to know any of them... then he ventures into town and figures it out.

Seems to me like You have a lot of questions you want answered, a lot of questions youll want to find out as you play.... seems to be the opening cinematic made you really want to play (as you want to find out these answers) hmmm =P

Sure.
Ignore the fact the entire cinematic of Diablo 1 is centered around the Warrior character.
Ignore the fact that the entire intro cinematic of Diablo 2 is centered around humans trying to fight off Demons and getting murdered as the only guy left is driven insane by ramblings. Ignore the messages that tell us very clearly demons are a ridiculous and major threat/focus of this game and you as a human will have major challenges overcoming their madness and destruction.
Ignore the idea of humanity fighting demons, you know, like Diablo 1 and 2 show us, and just prefer a super model and an old man falling as a meteor hits.

What a fanboyfest this turned into. My opinion is better than your opinion!! It's just a cinematic man.
I don't really care if anyone hates the cinematic. It just bothers me when people say things that make no sense.

Do you even know the story of d3?
People dont even think demons are really ever coming.... all that stuff is legend, nothing bad is going on in the world, why would they be showing anything like people fighting demons? The line where he goes " Do you believe me" or something like that is perfect for the story about to come.
to add to it, Your character knows nothing, you learn whats going on as your character.

My judgments on the cinematic have nothing to do with my knowledge of the game. I've said 50 times I'm looking at this as a standalone introduction to the game - you know, like it is?
I know the entire story behind Diablo 3. And I'm telling you the Intro tells us nothing about YOUR CHARACTERS story and role in the game, and simply raises questions for new players that aren't compelling.

I guess I will ignore that... just like you are ignoring that the Diablo 3 cinematic clearly hints the war is coming to the world that these people and your character will be in. A war you will obviously be involved in that will start in the town that they are in and it has something to do with the large meteor that crashed down and the prophecy he was reading about.
What do you want them to tell you? The beginning, middle and end of the story? Just read a book then dude.

Your character follows the exact path of Marius through the game, and he's the one telling your characters story in the last cinematic or two. The cinematic introduction shows how feeble humans are and how insane demons are towards these humans - the characters you will be playing will have to overcome them.

Your post says the opposite tho. What story would they show? What does the play need to know in that?

I'm starting to think that you are just trolling everyone for your own enjoyment. Please enlighten me on how the Diablo 1 cinematic sets up anything about anything. I'm not saying it's bad, but it does NOTHING to set up anything and it doesn't inform someone who knows nothing about Diablo of anything about the universe. It's just a deserted town, some clanking windows, a sword, slow motion zoom ins on dead things and a sizzle reel of demons and a warrior. Now the Diablo 2 cinematic is super informative but that's because IT'S SEVEN MINUTES LONG!!! How could it not explain everything that was going on? In a short time, the D3 cinematic sets up the back story of the war and Sanctuary AND introduces the initial mystery for the start of the game. What more should a cinematic do?

The main character of Diablo is the warrior. He is shown walking through the remnants of demonic destruction and even Diablo himself as the main villain at the end of the cinematic. He is shown dealing with, first hand, the destruction and chaos that demons can bring and he is shown walking in a "no mans land" or an area where most people are dead and everything has been destroyed by something. That something is shown at the end in the catacombs to be demonic creatures.
No, I'm not "trolling."
