Did anyone ever play Nox? It was a great Diablo clone by Westwood before EA bought and destroyed Westwood. Anyway, while I loved the game, I still think that Diablo was better, except that Nox had an amazing capture the flag multiplayer mode. You could play with up to 32 people (16 on each team), great big maps, some great fast paced action. Westwood had a great ladder ranking, but of course it all got shut down by EA.
So I know that there is no capture the flag planned for Diablo 3, but I hope it is something they consider for the future expansions. I am just curious, did anyone ever play the Nox capture the flag? Do you think it could work with Diablo 3?
I've played Nox before(great game btw) but nope, I haven't tried the Capture the Flag mode. Seems like an awesome idea for D3 though, I would love having different mods to play such as this. Arena is cool but might get old after a while.

Well just because the objective is to capture the flag doesn't mean that you can't just go around killing people anyways. Anyone who's played a Warsong Gulch or a game of CTF in Halo knows what I'm talking about. CTF usually ends up being killing, with a bit of directed killing thrown in every now and then.
Yea, that can usually be solved by just having large maps so that even when you burn all your movement cooldowns you're not that far across, or at least theres still time to kill you. Or movement skills could be restricted/eliminated for the flag carrier. Of course you could have some sort of "flag carrying" build where you build a tank barbarian with sprint, leap attack, and other skills to break snares, but it would come at the cost of not being good at anything else.
Yeah, I guess calling it a Diablo clone might have been a misnomer. I still think that they are similar though. It was interesting in the capture the flag games that people naturally gravitated towards positions that their character class did well in. The wizards usually took over defense, setting traps all over the place, while the warriors charged and took on the offence. I liked to play as a conjurer and have living traps follow me around that would teleport my enemies to random locations if they got to close to me. Sometimes the matches would be supper fast because of the charge skill of the warriors like Ophion is pointing out, but it was best out of five before they would switch up teams. I loved it, and still consider it the best multiplayer experience I have had with a game similar to Diablo. I am totally psyched for the Arena matches, but I think it is nice to have a variety of options for multiplayer.
Yeah, but the important thing is to balance the actual CtF game ^^ If a Barbarian is able to grab the flag and run back using supreme speed and stuff, then something is wrong.
Druids and their forms, shamans and their spirit wolf + boots in vanilla (zomg damn hackzor horde back then). Never stopped my as a warrior charging em slowing and carving them up in no time at all.
They'd have to either disable, or nerf movement skills, so in essence the class with the most HP/Defense would always be the best choice for a flag carrier. I honestly don't feel CTF belongs in Diablo.. It's amazing in Halo and Cod, even if killing are some players primary goals, it still works. I'm sure they could make it work, but they've said they aren't looking to make PvP anything more than it is at it's basic.
Though the idea was put forth about monsters becoming a part of PvP, which Jay said wasn't in the mix, but he didn't oppose to the idea. So other forms of PvP may come out in time.

I think that too much emphasis is being placed on movement skills. I was very successful at Nox CtF as a conjurer. The warriors had much better movement skills, but I was able to use the conjurers skills to capture the flag quite often. Something that might make it a deal-breaker though is that in Nox there were some skills that could kill you with a single hit. That made it a good challenge to get to the flag and also to get back with it. I don't know if any of the Diablo 3 skills will have the ability to kill someone with just one or two hits. If so though, I think it could really work.
Also, it is okay if one class tends to be the offensive class more than another. Other classes will do better at defense, and it is nice for the game to be a team effort rather than everyone chaotically trying to get the flags at the same time.
I have played capture the flag on Unreal Tournament before it was really fun. Would be cool to see how this works for diablo if they ever implement this.
Wait so we could have a CTF that requires your team to be holding the flag for X amount of time in order to win? Something like that might eliminate the "But I want to kill things" and "but they can just use sprint and they win!". Still, those with large defensive strats would win =\
Maybe a 8 man FFA? Lol.

It's all been said. The pun, the not so funny joke, the phrase, something about oneself, the not so random picture.
KotH would favor Barbarians since they can stay in the hill. Wizards and other fragile classes can't simply stand somewhere and take damage.
Team KotH, that is the answer.
yes; king of the hill would be a lot of fun. Yes; there would have to be teams, but there would be 2 people per team and 3-4 teams all together. that would be dope as hell.

I suppose you're correct. FFA KotH would be a little unbalanced towards the melee classes. Unless the Wizard and Witch Doctor have potential to have dominant KotH-focused builds.

Thanks Caniroth for the awesome sig!

Granted, there's plenty of room for killing people for the flag defender.
