i dont think anyone can argue with that. Those that avoided being rushed had fewer characters, most of which (after the first few failures that it took to learn the game mechanics and late gear) use specific specs found in guides. A respec system would give players the chance to try new things that might not work that well in the end, but might aswell do.
I didn't get rushed.
I brought at least 10 characters beyond level 70 before choosing my preferred build.
Thus I enjoyed the game for a long time before finishing it by perfecting my favorite build.
A respect system simply reduces the amount of time it takes me to reach that final goal.
Then there is nothing left to do but quit.
then take out rushing or whatever.....respecing is lame! I dont like the idea that some noob (yes i said noob) can come into the game make a shitty build adn then in no time can have the same build as me...and then a different one...and oh hes done with that character..next...next....oh im bored because i can basically have whatever skills i want when i want them. Its bull crap. THat is literally half the fun of diablo 2...the starting over!
lol it is my professional (yes i am a professional diablo player : P) opinion that you dont know what you are talking about. I have a lvl 80 sorc that was amazing and was not in the slightest rushed.
how can you get to 70 without having a spec? Any char without distributed skill points is useless and most likely rushed.
he means, it took him 10 character before he felt like he got it right. he trained skills on all of them along the way, but only like the way the 10th one turned out.
I really can't see the problem here, if you don't like the respeccing opportunity DON'T EFFIN USE IT!!! As simple as that.:cute:
Morbidio's philosophy:
Don't like radar in FPS -> DON'T EFFIN USE IT
Don't like heroes in WC3 -> DON'T EFFIN USE IT
Don't like 3-pointers in basketball -> DON'T EFFIN USE IT
Don't like college education -> DON'T EFFIN USE IT
The only problem occurs when you are actually trying to be competitive, then I guess you have to play by the same rules as everyone else.

You shouldn't feel so negative towards respecs... Im sure if diablo 3 came out 3 years ago id be totally against respecs, thats because i was a HARDCORE diablo player in d2. But the greatest thing about diablo is that you can just pick up and play. These days i dont have the time to remake characters, be being an engineering student and working i barely have time to cook for myself... Id still love to play diablo whenever i had spare time but having to remake characters because iv found a new idea that will be better then everyone else would be lame. Diablo 3 will me marketed towards a large audience and a lot of casual players.
I wouldnt be worried about cookie cutter builds... There is NO way to get away from them unless you have a rock paper sizzors style gameplay like guildwars (i didnt like this). I personally find cookie cutter builds to be easy to play against... First of all you know what your opponent will be using, and second, if they arnt good enough to figure out their own stratagie they probably wont be that great at pvping either.
PS. Id rather spend my time designing a build then implementing it and finding out it needs tweeking.

yes, i managed to have multiple characters around level 90 without being rushed, but you cant level without a spec. If you do it it means that you havent your skills distributed. Which also means that you dont contribute to the game party which is XP LEECHING.
Leeching is the exact same as being rushed for those that dont know it yet.
as a "professional" diablo player you should know that too. You should also try and understand the posts before replying to them. Because from what you said you had:
a) no point at all
no proof at all to prove your non-existing point
in fact all you have a reply to my post and a statement with no value at all.

"you cant level without a spec."
Whoa, whats a spec? I have no idea, but since I gained levels, I must have had one..
"If you do it it means that you havent your skills distributed."
Let me get this straight: you cannot gain levels with a "spec". If you do gain levels without a spec, you haven't distributed your skills. Despite the paradox in that, you seem to be saying that the only way to level is by distributing your skills?
I don't know what you're talking about man, but please try to use better grammar. I honestly haven't a clue what you're getting at.
But anyway, for the record, it is very possible to get yourself to level 70+ while following a specific build that involves saving the majority of your skill points for higher level skills. There are some times when it sucks and you dont gain levels as quick as you might otherwise but dont say it cant be done.
Yea respecs make it so reaplaying is more of a grind than actual fun. You simply make it so that in order to be as good as possible you have to play multiple times. Replayability should be a result of randomness in the enviornment or multiple ways of doing quests, etc, not because you need to level up to 99 again so you can try out a new spec.
WoW at this thread lol. Basically this is what I am trying to say. As a competitive player I do a lot of research and tests on my own to find what is as close to as the most perfect pvp setup possible. Why I do not like respecs because it gives lazy less dedicated players the option to copy what I have done by clicking one button and I still think it removes replay value. HOWERVER if leveling in D3 takes anywhere as long as it does in WoW... Then I am down for respecs because I really hate leveling and doing quests. The only reason I would do it would be to make improvements to my char.

I agree with all of that 100%. Of course, leveling in D3 won't take anywhere near what it takes in WoW because it's an ACTION RPG and not a MMORPG. I think people keep forgetting this -- it's not going to be that much work to reroll in D3, it will be enough to deter the people who don't really care, but probably not enough to deter the perfectionists like Teky and myself. I absolutely support some degree of respeccing in a game like WoW, although not total like in GW...which is just absurd.

having a spec means to level by distributing your skill points towards a certain end. Going without spec means that you go without any skills, which is pretty equal to not doing anything. Everyone that got rushed (i helped a few leeches in my life) went to games (especially cow games) sat in the corner and waited for those with certain abilities to kill the enemies so that they would gain level. Even if you attacked stuff, say with a sorceress, without having a spec you wouldnt kill a thing, not even hurt it a little.
How this is different than being rushed in your logic i dont understand.
spec doesnt mean you keep all your points to use them all together. Every player with a certain spec aims towards certain skills and how to improve them.
So the only way to level to the highest levels is through a spec.
and if you didnt understand my post, i suggest you take some english lessons, none else ever had a problem with mine.

Blah it wasn't any different in D2..
Copy someones build, make new character, get boosted to hell, leech to 80+ in one day.

Exactly. D2 had unlimited respecs. D3 is going to limit them. Its probably going to be much harder to respec in D3 then it was in D2. But on the other hand, certain noobs can't seem to grasp that? Hardcore players like myself have always been able to quickly respec and no matter how the much the mechanic behind it was broken, it was essential to the game. You don't really care, because you're going to make a broken build and not bother rerolling it. I rerolled my characters to perfection, and if D3 doesn't allow unlimited rerolls, then there has to be another repsec mechanic.
I don't see why they should cater to noobs who don't care to maximize their chars and want to feel 'special' for their broken builds...

I know! Haha, I must have restarted hundreds of times...but I love it. No other game made me WANT to restart so many times.
And, Dimebag, not all of us rushed our chars to level 80 in a day. Some of us actually played the game.
