Some guy calls himsef Sozou has done a great job thanks to his heroic video editing skills.Like it's written in diii.net, he reprocessed the whole dungeon section in the gameplay video and now it looks dirty, gritty, darker.Video's quality is very good and it plays at full frame rate.It switches to original look sometimes so you can compare the original version and the darker verison easily.I will share my thoughts later.
Thanks to the heroic video editing efforts of a guy calling himself Sozou, we may have reached the end of the D3 "too colorful" art controversy. The end, one way or the other. Sozou has taken the WWI gameplay movie, and reprocessed the entire dungeon section (the first 12 minutes) so it looks like those gritty, grainy screenshots players were turning out shortly after D3's announcement. Darker, desaturated, no greens and blues, etc. The file is high quality, it plays at the full frame rate, and it switches between the original version and the desaturated, modified version regularly, so it's ideal to compare the different visual styles..
Since the initial outcry, Blizzard's designers have explained that the colorful, green/blue tinted D3 we see today is the third or fourth version of the art direction. They say they initially tried it in a darker, desaturated style, and found it unplayable. Monsters and other characters were hard to distinguish, the game became visually monotonous, and when they went back to more closely examine D2, they realized it was much more colorful in actuality than in their memories.
You may agree or not, but this is probably as close as we're going get to seeing what D3 looked like in the earlier versions, compared to how it looks now. Here's what Sozou says about the movie on his page, and there are additional arguments made during the movie, when text pops up on the screen.
We've mirrored the file locally, since it's huge (120meg). Also, trying to view the .m4v movie through Sozou's site crashed the browsers of several early test subjects. You shouldn't have any technical problems viewing it here. Let us know if you do. Read more to view the movie...
Also on Sozou's site, you can also check out a big page of desaturated stills from the movie, and a short, super high quality video comparison. It's a 64meg .mov file with 10 seconds of action. The same 5 second clip is shown twice; once in the original color, and once in the desaturated style.
I can't watch the video on this piece of junk, but the screens look good... in moderation. If the whole game looked like that, I'd hope Blizzard was expecting to disappoint a lot of gamers. Certain parts of the game would be ok like that, but not the whole thing. No way.
I was totally sided with the colorfulists before this video, but I can now see both sides. The darkness really feels more like the first 2 Diablos, but, at the same time, makes you feel confused or lost while you're playing, not really aware of what's around you besides what you see on the minimap. The colored version gives you a better grasp of your surroundings and works together with the interactive environment so you really know what you're doing and can constantly advance instead of being scared to move on.
So it seems to me that they are sacraficing the cool factor and horror ambiance for better gameplay (which is just a marketing decision from there).

It's a dungeon.Tristram Cathedral.OFC it would be brighter and colorful outside
I think that there is room to have some of the areas in the game like this, however, as others have pointed out, it seemes like it would get boring rather quickly.

But in D1 and D2, dungeons look like this also.As i said b4 outside would be much more brighter and colorful. This is the realism that Diablo games bring.

I tend to get bored with gameplay not the colors im seeing but its a valid point.
This video is exactly why I like the colors. Just watching the first min of this makes you realize how drab and visually uninteresting this game would be with a desaturated environment.

As is yours. I suppose bored is really not the best word to use, but I really don't have a better one. In the end it all comes down to personal aesthetics I suppose.

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
It looks perfect now and it feels like Diablo.
it looked good but it still could use a little improvement but your right that is what DIABLO looks like.
No it isnt.
Over confidence is the rot.
