I know lots of people that didn't like diablo. they played it thru couple of times and didn't see anything in it. They just wondered "why was it so short? and why wasn't there any kind of story?" well there was story but you didn't really get into it in the game. "there is andariel, you must defeat... " "defeat duriel, get tal rasha..." "you must defeat mephisto..." "you must kill diablo..." thats about it.
Most of these people started playing with me and they quit soon after. They rather played baldurs gate 2 and that kind of games. Some people want more depth and less action
i like that post, akse. It describes this better than I could without getting defensive over gw, which I adore far too much to defend without getting a tad edgy.
I didnt know Maplestory had a story.....probably a shitty one. maple story sucks balls. To kiddy.
Besides, most MMO or RPG kind of games follow some sort of storyline. If not, wtf is the game gonna be about. Although I will say that most new ideas within a MMO are bitten off from other games...sadly.
if u want a very popular MMORPG that really does NOT follow a story line, look at EVE, totally different gameplay, but it's just an example.
GW imo is a whole new game in it's own right and SHOULDN'T be compared to any other. The ONLY game that can come close (if that) in comparison would be WoW.
as for the story line post above: GW for example is an amazing balance of those 2 types of people. Plenty of action and a VERY in depth story line. and i'm hoping D3 will be more geared this way (balanced gameplay, aka if u want action go play a shooter, if u want story go read a book)
Eve sucks. My ex's boyfriend plays Eve, thus it sucks.
Maple story is an MMO, GW is an MMO, RS is an MMO. Diablo is not an MMO.
Also, Guild Wars is not like WoW. You can solo the whole game in WoW up to 70, but in Guild Wars you have to have a party, as if memory serves correct you can only reach level 20.
Oh, and Maple Story did one thing great that RS and GW didn't, they had shops. You could buy a shop and it would sell your shit. Kinda like a personal AH type thing, but instead of one shop for everyone it was like one area in each town that everyone set up shops to sell shit at. It was pretty cool imo.

So yea.

Bah, too many people bash Spreadsheets Online without playing it.
It's actually a really good MMO if you just follow the tutorial and don't head into 0.0 space in your starter frigate thinking lol pirates!
no, you are not required to party in GW...the game was designed that way. every quest is solo-able though some would strongly suggest you get a party simply because it's too challenging to complete alone (GAURANTEE WoW is the same way...)
edit: not to mention GW help build it's community in this way by having players work together to achieve a common goal.
and the level cap doesn't make a difference, honestly the lvl 20 cap in GW makes it more fun, forcing you into a challenge obviously not presented in WoW

Oops i learned my lesson when i lost a rifter and a stabber int eh same day simply trying to get from one place to another. (still low lvl skills, got trapped at a jump)

GW ended to fast, leveling wise. WAY TO FAST. In less then a day. Then when yuo go PvP, in the past, you would face KOREANS. They win....EVERY TIME.

that depends on what version you played. people complained that prophecies leveled way too slow, so the drastically sped it up in night fall and factions

Haha, that is true. I played original. I got to bored of it after a couple weeks. It was to easy to get gear and level and go through the storyline. PvP got old because Koreans always won. haha. So i guess things changed.
I played maplestory 132 Night Lord biggest waist of time AND money. I'd rather spend 100$ on WoW instead of that or i could of bought diablo at the time.
I never spent a dime on MapleStory, but I did play it, (level 43 mage) Even that took forever, the leveling was sooooooo slow in that game. Yeah I agree that game was a waste of time. And I also hated how everyone sold stuff for really expensive, so the only way to buy something good was to rip other people off or to spend actual money to get game money.
Most MMO's suck, the only really good one I have played so far was Mythos Beta, but since flagship studios has only a skeleton crew left it may not be finished or may take a long time. I hope they land on their feet.
EDIT: Almost all MMO's are very similar. Same setups, same gameplay, the only reason I played so many is because they were free. I think I am more of a hacknslash guy, thats why I have played Diablo for so long.

Diablo is a bad game because it copied Baldur's Gate, which has more indepth and strategic combat and a deeper story.
See how silly and unfair that comparison is? Both are RPGs, however Diablo is focused on action and fast paced gaming whereas Baldur's Gate has its focus in storyline and player choice.

I will agree with ya. Diablo isnt a MMO, its a multiplayer based game, but not a massive world based game.
