Ok well, when reading the faq, something confused me.
It was saying "How many classes will be in Diablo 3?"
And the answer "Blah blah blah... 5.. blah."
There's 6 classes in the original Diablo 2 expansion.
It stated that the Barbarian and Witch Doctor were apart of that five.
So I have a few theories.
Maybe they're all brand new classes and the Barbarian and the only original one.
Or the Witch Doctor is the only new class and is replacing the Necromancer.
Or they're keeping the classes from Diablo 2 and not it's expansion, and something..
I don't know if I'm close to whats happening, but if you have some insight, please let me know. Like if they are getting rid of old classes, and if so, how many.

Diablo III is not a Diablo II expansion. They are not "getting rid" of any classes, because all those classes are in the past, in Diablo II, they were played for 8 years and they are boring now. They are making a new game that will have new classes, and just because Barbarian is named that way doesn't mean he's a copy of the DII barbarian. And just because the Witch Doctor is there doesn't mean he "replaced" anybody. Nor does DIII relate to DII but not LoD - they could easily recycle some druid skills and put them in some totally new class.

Nope.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
I seem to remember hearing that almost anyone who witnessed the events that took place during D2 went mad and disappeared during the 20 years that past between D2 and D3, (mentioned in an interview with blizzard at Gamespot.com and I believe in Cains journal at the official website), so it is completely possible if not highly likely that all the characters will be new classes (with exception to the barbarian of course)

Quoted for truth. People on these forums act like it will be a remake of D2 with A Havok phiysics engine. Blizzard has been making kickass games for as long as they were in business. I say relax. It will turn out awesome. Guarenteed.

Actually it was said by the devs during the WWI that the Barb from D3 is the Barb from D2 20 years later. Classes are not just random characters anymore, they got their own story, their own past which they also said we would explore for every one of them.

Simple, when you hate something you just say it looks like WoW
Well considering from the footage i see when they introduced D3, they were wearing wow shirts and wow ties, and the troll witch doctor is from the Warcraft thats how, not to mension the wowheads are the ones heading the creation of D3 atm.
No matter how it changes the char it will have will still do the same things as the old one . The only different between that is a new looks that's all. I don't see any need of changing here.

some iconic skills should be retained though...for new or reused classes, like whirlwind and nova.
i just hope for very balanced classes so i can use many builds for each char, 5 new ones for a start isnt bad, it gives them more time to concentrate on balancing and tweaking

Well, as you didn't seem to have eyes to see, I didn't include LoD. You know what LoD is? An expansion. Extra time spent LATTTTEEEEEEEEEER. You are asking for 7 classes at original's release date...
Exclude it (as he did) and it is 5.
LoD is an expansion. Obviously, if they do 7 characters in the original, 2+ will be extra hard in the expansion. This is super-advanced long-term thinking, guys.
I don't understand why people keep wanting the Nerco brought back...Yeah he is awsome yada yada but why...don't people want something fresh. Having the Witch Doctor opens up some more options which could benifit a party, some healing spells or concoctions. Who knows...
Having the Barb come back yeah ok...I personally wasnt keen on it...I want something new. But if he ties in well with the story line and there is a reason for him not to have gone mad with the terrors he has seen then thats A-OK by me. I would also love to see the other chrs through out the game or a mention of what has happened to them in the past 20 years.
Still kinda hoping for that twisted Paladin class...the horrors he has seen has pushed him over the edge and now he has an internal battle with himself not to completely loose it and also gives his a chance for some anti paladin shiz.
I think 5 classes is a good figue. adding a couple more in an expansion wouldn't be to bad later down the track but I would much rather less characters and a brilliant game then stacks of chrs and a so so game.
But it's blizzard they know exactly how to make a #1 game

Wow, sorry for not remembering Diablo 2 that well, I played it 6 years ago, sorry for not being such a hardcore fan nowadays.
Way to come off as a ass.

Nec would be redundant. I'm already not so happy with barb.
How's WD wowish?
