I opened this thread expecting to read a well thought-out post on why these weapons are bad. All I saw was a personal rant. Honestly, at least present something that is even arguable. I hate Paladins, but you don't see me making threads demanding they be removed. >_>
Yay for threads, i'm gonna make one around amulets, seriously, AMULETS? Horrible things, just me saying "horrible things" is enough of a reason and argument to not ever have them appear in Diablo again. YAY for threads.
Congratulations on the increased post count, clearly you needed the extra point. It really made a whole lot of sense for you and the guy above you to bump a thread you think shouldn't be there.

Frankly, I don't like any kind of thrown weapon, but my beef is with the fact that an entire skill tree was designed around one. Not the implementation of them altogether, the implementation of one entire skill tree devoted to them.
Uh the skill tree is called spears and javalins...thats 2 weapons for one entire skill tree. If you don't push characters into certain weapons by limiting their skills then every character is the same right? Isn't that the point of different classes? Amazon is the ranged weapon class. You are lucky they gave a few melee options. But I guess since they gave barb a few ranged options they had to do it.

You are splitting hairs, it's a javelin skill tree. If you read the description for each skill, a large number are for javelins only, and the rest are for javelins and spears. There are no skills specifically for spears that exclude javelins. Either way, barbarians didn't have an entire skill tree devoted to a single weapon. In fact, they only have one or two skills total for ranged weapons!
The point of classes is for unique things, but the amazons already had an entire skill tree of ten skills devoted to bows and crossbows, devoting another set of useless skills to a secondary ranged weapon of dubious design was a waste of time and hard drive space. It was as if no creative energy had been put into the class whatsoever (don't get me started on the lack of innovation behind their passive skill tree).

Obviously i'm in it for post count instead of trying to rid the world of idiotic threads.
"OMG, that one guy IS POSTING A REPLY TO MAKE A POINT, lets all disregard his point and instead focus on the method he is making his point, namely via a post. POST COUNT WHORE POST COUNT WHORE!!!" > Makes sense.
Such a holy crusade you've taken on, flamebaiting in threads you don't like. Tens of millions of threads are posted daily online, I hope your social calendar will afford you the time. Though the suggestion that you had any kind of point to your post other than spam-ridden flaming is hysterical.
If you don't like the thread, just because you haven't the cognitive skill to engage in civil discourse doesn't mean you have the authority to spam it with your mindless flames. Surely, since you disagree so whole-heartedly with the intent of this thread, I shall not see your name in it again.

I can see your point that one tree becomes completely useless depending on whether you choose bows or javs/spears (it is a good point). The only other class I can think of that also has conflicting trees is druid...elemental vs. shapeshift. So I guess I agree that they need to make it so trees don't conflict that bad, but I have no beef in particular to using javelins.
I love the Amazon passive skills. A couple of them could be replaced with something more interesting, but by and large, they were all pretty good. Decoy FTW
4 Skills are Jav only...not "a large number"...The other 6 can be used by both Spears and Javs...
Smash, you're really showing your ignorance here...this thread reads like:
Smash: "waaah! I hate javs! no javs in D3!!!"
Rando: "Javs were good fun."
Smash: "NO JAVS IN D3! I DON'T LIKE THEM!!!"
Rando: "There is historical evidence that javelin like weapons were used in real life..."
Smash: "Don't care! silly!!!"
Rando: "But.."
Smash: "NO JAVSSSS!!"
How is not liking something, ignorant? It's not like I didn't give a thorough explanation. And that's 40% of the entire skill tree as javelin only, if 40% of your wages were garnished each week, wouldn't you consider that to be a "large portion"? Either way, javelins and spears are not dissimilar enough to justify the use of an entire set of skills in this way.
And honestly, it reads more along these lines:
Smash: "I really just don't like them, but here's why..."
Rando: "Well, too bad. Shut up."
Cheers,
SmashBoy (thought the purpose of forums was the exchange of opinions and ideas)
I personally like throwing spears (which are basically what javelins are). Last time I checked, they were extensively used for hunting, and sometimes used by barbaric tribes in wars, so they do exist. I personally liked them as a weapon. I did not like weapon-devoted skill tress, though, as I have said in the other thread in the class section...
no more amazons. Javs i have no problem with. What if they had special effects?
ex. if they had a rope tied to one end? wanna harpoon something to pull it closer, hmm? One you can fire at a wall on the other side of a bridge to jump over?
also, let me say that while i disagree with you, i'm sorry some people are being a 'little less than tactful' in expressing their opinions on the matter
SmashBoy, you have yet to give a real coherent reason as to why they were so bad. I liked the Javelin skills; does that mean there is something wrong with me? According to you, probably so. If they were as bad as you suggest, Blizzard would not have implemented them. No, Blizzard is not perfect in everything they do, but this is hardly one of its "major flops".

I spent the entire thread saying the exact same thing over and over. They dedicated an entire skill tree to one weapon, a weapon which I personally didn't even like. I don't think there's anything wrong with you, any more so than the people who liked the ice/fire/lightning trees of the sorceress. You people need to get through your head that I'm as much entitled to my opinions as you are to yours.

Silly me, i thought you were arguing the wrong thing.
You see, i thought this tread was called "NO MORE JAVS", as in "the weapon" and not "the skills the amazon has". Kinda like if an entire set of skills would revolve around, lets say, maces, then it would make perfect sense and it would be enough of a reason and argument to make a thread called "NO MORE MACES".
Sorry for my misunderstandment.
No, I despise the javelin weapon as well as the fact that one stupid weapon has an entire skill tree devoted to it. I would love to have javelins removed completely from the game. I also realize that it is just my opinion.
But I also used this thread to mention my dislike for entire skill trees being focused entirely upon a single weapon or combat style. That is also an opinion, it may not be as "controversial" as the first opinion, but they are both opinions I expressed in this thread.
What part of "my wishlist" didn't you understand from the thread title, exactly?
Cheers,
SmashBoy (considers taking a snapshot from dictionary.com of the definition for "opinion")
Can i report an entire thread? he triple posted and double posted... SPAMM!!!!!!!!!!
anyways - its not that we dont like your opinion, its the way you express it. "i hate the jav!!! its so UGLY!! UFAWKLFAWJKFA" Its not ugly, its pretty beautiful if you ask me. But i just dont see whats the problem with a javelin. You throw them, monsters die. Death is cool.
Please, let me know when you are done trolling. I have stood by, post after post, every single point I made in that first post. Unless you decide to contribute something, other than this lackluster troll that you've attempted to build, you and I are done conversing.

And there's nothing wrong with disagreeing, is there? But the responses to this thread has been the equivalent of "well, too bad, just shut your mouth and deal with it".
Cheers,

if you dont like them cant you just avoid them? You could say the same thing about bows, which also have an entire tree dedicated to them, or the sin claws which have alot of dedicated skills. Whats the point of removing weapons anyway? We dont want to dumb down the game.
