I agree that Diablo 2 wasn't very creepy or cartoony... My main desire is for a return to Diablo 1, that was the true Horror Action RPG. There were half naked people on spikes, corpses with limbs missing, blood all over the place, it WAS very dark and the music/noises were creepy. I first played as a little kid (like 13/4) and I was honestly to scared to play the whole way through solo. This is why apart from play style, I rate Diablo 1 > Diablo 2.
I do like Diablo 3 as it looks atm, it is getting me quite moist.... but like I said before, I hope there are graphics options that allow us to make it a little darker/grittier etc. as opposed to just make everything slightly less visually appealing.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
Just to remind everyone a lot of people dont mind the colors its just where the colors are placed. We dont want all the colors removed we just want a grittier atmosphere. Like hunter-Wolfs post he pretty makes us sound like we want no color in the game. You people need to really read out posts and understand we like color just not where it is. There is a certain lack of atmosphere where they are placed.
No worries!
I'm a very "balanced" guy, and hear arguments from both sides. I also agree to a certain extent with both sides here. I just wanted to give him some credit for the effort he had put in his post there.
In general, I feel that the original coloration (or what I should call it) by Blizzard seems more blurry and "pale" and not so crisp and clear as some of the remakes. Contrast seems higher in those remakes, which I prefer. But in general, I'm not sure if I agree that Blizzard has missed completely with the mood/atmosphere in this game.
Some imporvements can certainly be made, but some of the petition-signers, sounds very fanatic and "in the clouds" when they make it sound like the game has some kind of teletubby feel to it. If I hadn't seen the gameplay video or any screenshots, and I was to believe them, I would have thought this game looked like a game made for Nintendo with Kirby, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, adn the whole lot included...:P

Ya im pretty balanced too and I can say that there are guys on both sides who are pretty fanatic. Im waiting for someone to make a flash movie about it?
This may end up as a topic of discussion on Attack of the Show this evening, considering the fact that it was a front page story on G4tv.com. In any case, Blizzard basically spit in the faces of everyone who signed that petition by telling us "color is your friend." Hopefully, they'll wake up from their WoW induced comas once there are over one hundred thousand signatures and fix this problem.
um... they said color is your friend befor the petition...
I think the graphics are great but needs to be tweaked to be better, improved and darker. It -does- look like a next gen WoW... it's hard to disagree with images like this that look so much like something from WoW's Shadowfang keep...
@ OP.....this is NOTHING new, as we already have heard this from blizzard in interviews...this is NOT a response to our petition, but a thought they had to change diablo that we already know...its sad that even the developers cant understand what diablo should look like...i mean hell they admit to it looking different and much brighter...exactly what many fans don't want, and diablo was never like that. don't fix something if it isn't frikkin broken.

texture and polygon enhancement make for a more difficult game to run (which i have no problem at all with), which wont happen...it is color that is a big problem...too vibrant, and too pastelly.....to be honest i had the OPPOSITE reaction as blizzard...i have been playing D2 and after this discussion i looked at the darkness of D2 again and i didn't realize just how dark it was! it SHOULD be that way...that IS diablo, an dis how it has been for 10 plus years (whatever its at now).
I don't really understand all the complaining about what's been revealed about D3 as far it not being Dark, Gothy. We have been shown very little. I'm sure Blizzard will keep what the feel about Diablo is. Even enhance it. Either way you're getting what you wanted....Diablo 3.

This thread just made us turn on each other, with people quoting here , there and everywhere. I got tired of reading. And my post prolly won't matter because everything has already been said.
I'm sure the day blizzard releases this, everyone on this thread will buy it, no matter which art direction they choose to implement.
Kudos to Hunter-Wolf, post of the year!

This is nothing new.. we dont need a fucking interview to tell us that they choose that art direction. Our point still remains valid. At very least the dungeons should be dark and gritty

I Think It Is Mainly A Texture Issue And Polygons Issue - And It Could Be Quite Easily Fixed!
But The Color Use Is Fine.
So close to Shadowfang right!?!
