Will 2.3 Rifts and Greater Rifts be free without the need for a Keystone? I noticed from this screenshot that the slot where the keystone currently is placed is removed and it says "Select A Rift Type".
The text under is changed as well. We're not able to read what the text in the screenshot says since the slider is (deliberately?) blocking the text, but it's a different description at least.
It seems to me that we can just choose a Rift type and play without the need of a Key. That would be absolutely amazing if that's the case. Travis, how does it work buddy?
Perhaps they've streamlined it so rift keys, normal and greater, are automatically deducted from your inventory/stash based on which rift type you select? How it works currently when you think about it, a key stone is "necessary" to distinguish between rift types from the player's perspective. No UI feature to pick one or other currently.
Removing the cost entirely I feel would only place an even greater emphasis on... greater rifting. I don't believe they want that. Insofar they are actively fighting against that thought with their talk about bounties in adventure mode being altered.

1) both rifts and grifts will use a stone earned from completing bounties.
or
2) the keys themselves will not change, just how we access them.
I am leaning slightly more towards option 1, because with the new difficulties being added, people will not be so bored with the torment difficulties and people will still need mats.
However, based upon the other details of the preview to the next patch, being able to change mats into other mats there is still a large possibility for option 2.
itll prolly cost rift fragments..This would also get rid of the recycle element...In the end well have the only option is upgrade gem? I guess well have to see.

^ This.
You will most likely still need to do normal rifts to get GR keys but now that the stone UI let's you choose which one you want to do, there is no longer a reason to force you to put a key in. Hell, iirc the original reasoning for putting the key into the stone when there was only normal rifts was just so that you wouldn't accidentally open it when you misclick the stone.
If it turns out we'll need to do 1 Rift per 1 Greater Rift then I'd prefer a trial system like now where we can hide keys. That's more efficient New system with 1:1 would be even worse.
meh..i dont mind spending a few hours for 100 trial keys... in t6...good maps can be LESS than 1 minute..there will be NO trials...which mean you will need something to open the rift.....my question is kinda will pubs match players skill levels? like i can 50 solo 60+ in group but rng sticks me with a buncha ppl pushing 35...and i waste my time making new games?

It's not going to be 1 minute if you do T10. I'm not sure what the GR equivalent is, but I'm sure you can count on at least 3min per rift including closing rift. That's not counting for all the stops you'll make to pick up drops. 100 Rifts x 3min optimistically speaking is 5 hours. 5 hours in Rifts for 100 keys that you'll spend the same time using in Greater Rift. You don't mind spending that? Using half the day in Rifts just so you can do Greater rifts is not appealing to me at all. Then I'd rather have it like now where I get others to spend their trial keys and I don't have to do more than a few Rifts the entire season
well everything will change...next patch and im sure well all be there...well prolly run bounty when we need "rift frag" or for grifts.....keys...t10 will be for farming machines and more mats/xp/etc...either way....nothing is final..i dont think recycle will be a thing...tho...anymore...because anyone who joined will need to bring a key of...____probably fragments...which is not terrible ...cuz u can farm them in any diff. but higher torments leader to better rewards for mats/keywardens etc...
of course i was meaning the current meta.t10 will be a complete diff crowd of all gg players...we hope...cuz right now u can dh and carry 3 in t6 ...with sub par gear.
i also want to point out...in this game atm....if u have a monk crus wd..u can spam 65-70...which will NOT happen next season...making a trial monk/xplode monk kinda useless..with all this new gear...im always curious how top builds will push without some kind of exploit..im looking forwards pessimly optimistic...
im not sure how hard t10 is gonna be, but im pretty sure ur gonna be around 100-150% stronger than you are right now, just with new cube thing. it wont take as long as u think it would be to clear a rift for grift keys or whatever will that be.

This is completely off topic, but for the love of god please stop abusing ellipses. You only need one period to end a sentence. Ty.

From all I've gathered, no, we won't have any such access keys to fiddle with.
I would imagine that players will be able to select up to the highest Grift they've completed, or something similar.

The cost will still be the keys, they wouldn't change that, but what I'm guessing is that they now are stored in your account, like a currency.
I think that there are two options:
1) both rifts and grifts will use a stone earned from completing bounties.
or
2) the keys themselves will not change, just how we access them.
