There are so many well balanced games built for competitive play out there that I can't fathom why anyone would try and say " to hell with blizzard we'll play this competitively anyway!" I mean, it's going to motly be whoever had the dankest items wins, and with a RMAH that just means money wins. Any sort of pvp is going to be completely skillless mind numbing fun, or griefing attempts.
I'm under the personal opinion anyone insisting D3 should be/will be/is a competitive pvp game are the people who are unable to compete in actual competitive balanced platforms of skill and just want to say "I spent X more money/time than you thus I am the better player" instead of being capable of winning through skill. It's the casuals crutch- it doesnt matter how skilled you are just how long you farm.
I just don't see why these people want so desperately to make diablo 3 something it's not.
Dunno about you but skill is a big factor... guess you never PvP'd in anything before. A perfect example is WoW, people buy characters and they play like rtards, just because you can buy gear doesn't mean you will be awesome.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I am the only one here on this entire website that has played the latest version of PvP. I am the only one who has any idea of what they are talking about. You guys keep comparing Diablo 3 to Diablo 2 and WoW because you don't know what you are talking about. It was very fun, very smooth, very balanced and had a whole lot of strategy and teamwork and that's how we won 17 out of 20 games. Have you played the PvP? Let me know. Are you going to for the rest of this year? No. I am tired of arguing with people who don't know what they are talkIng about. They haven't played the PvP but are all of a sudden experts on it? Why don't you go back to your PvE forums and let me tell the PvP'ers how it really is.

Ya I have been post all morning and I was getting worked up lol. It was directed mostly to the PvE'ers. I stand by what I said though.
Fair enough, I'm more for PvE but I like PvP on the side. I like going to these topics mearly for the entertainment and even sometimes learn something.

Watch out adon it's big brother PvM coming to tell you what diablo is and how to play it. Diablo deserves darker pastures.
No, the developers tell you what the game is and how it should be played, and obviously they think PvP should be relegated to area battles, so there you go.
Right cause the developers are always right. Just curious, what did I do for all of those years since obviously I didn't play the game correctly. I guess playing the game how you want and making it fun for you is unacceptable. BTW, Read my sig.
Umm... yes, yes they are, by definition. You may disagree with their philosophy regarding certain features, but they are the developers and they design the game, so by definition, what the decide to allow is how the game is intended to be played.
You're confusing two different concepts here. They are always right about the current design because they dictate the design requirement. That does not mean they always make the best choices and that the design is perfect. The will iterate, they will refine, and they will change things. Currently, they do not agree with your vision of what PvP should be.
I never said you were playing D2 "incorrectly" (I'm actually stumped as to how one could ever play a game "incorrectly"), I was responding to what I had seen said about PvP in D3. If they allowed it in D2 then obviously it was intended. They changed their mind oh how PvP should be implemented since D2.

this comparison isn't relevent when gear in wow when there is a set statting for pvp gear and easy ways to get it.
diablo items are radomized with affixes. There are certain to be overwhelming broken stat combinations on some items, and items that are so far ahead of anything else comparably that you would never see in wow pvp. I'm excited for you to be 100%-0%

There will always be a competitive environment in games. Blizzard is really powerless to stop it.
Sure, there will be players that try to be competitive. However, if the game is not designed around competitive play the majority of players won't be playing it competitively. So yes, Blizzard can influence how competitive the game becomes by choosing to omit features that focus on competition.
I love how you keep trying to fight for your style of play when its very clear that Blizzard and the majority of the community don't want it. Guess you're bound to be disappointed.
Dude Blizzard can't stop this game from being competitive. They can design it however the hell they want, as long as there are differences in characters or gear there will be competition. Very few games start off competitive. Diablo 1-2 did not start off competitive to me, over the years and dealing with the COMMUNITY turns the game into what it is. The developers play a small role in deciding the end result of a game. The COMMUNITY takes control and gives life to the end result of a game.
Developers jobs are to fix bugs, glitches, exploits, and give me content updates. Not to sit there and baby me or watch over me.
Yea they made the game how they want, do I agree with all of their choices no? Do I think they took lazy way out on a few mechanics yes. Do I feel they will have any lasting effect on how the game turns out...no, the community will be here deciding these factors long after Jay and Blizzard move on just like Diablo 2.

And if that happens I'll be like meh, guess I'll just play more PvE. Every class will have the chance to do some OP move to destroy someone else, thats Diablo PvP. The difference is the skilled players will win more often then the nub who bought his shiney bow because they figure a way to get by it.

Well, it'll be pretty hard to develop any kind of competitive play if the only way to PvP is through Blizzard's Arena. Especially if they don't add private Arenas, ladders, etc. So yes, they can control how competitive the grame really gets by how they develop the game. A developers job is to develop the game, plain and simple. Blizzards vision for the game is a non~competitive, primarily co~op game and it shows.
Perhaps you should look elsewhere for your competition..

Right ok so lets theorize here.
Blizzard falls on their head and releases the Arena(Finally!). The arena only has 3v3 and 4v4, no custom games, no rankings, it really is just bare bones arena dueling.
Me and my friends queue up and run a couple of games, say we run into a "newb" team and we smash them, or hell they smash us. Since Bnet 2.0 keeps track of any previous played battle.tags they or I am free to message them and well trash talk them, thus creating competition.
Them giving us absolutely no options, does nothing to prevent this scenario and it will happen and it will happen a lot.
Now ok let's move over to the PvM side of things.
I just joined a game to kill Leoric and there are already 3 other guys there. They are all "veterans" and well I am new, or hell I could be the "veteran" or I can have a strong opinion about how to go on with this quest. An argument arises over my skills, gear, ability to play the game....thus creating tension and a competition to see who is better. Again...Blizzard has no ability to prevent this, any contact with other human beings will have the potential for conflict and competition, whether it is verbal, physical, or both.
Now these are like 2 second mock ups I just created. If given the time of the game life I am sure I can think of MANY MANY more ways we can have competition with Blizzard giving us absolutely nothing but bare minimum.

So, you're saying because bullies exist your argument is more valid? I'm sorry, ignore and kick will deal with your kind for the most part. Since items drop individually for each player we don't end up with fights over loot, hostility is gone, and ignore and kick will deal with people fluffing their ego. I think Diablo 3 will actually be pretty non-competitive in general.
Any competition present in the game will be a more friendly one. I played a ton of public games in beta and I didn't really have any of the issues you talk about. Having played a lot WoW instancing (which resembles how Diablo 3 functions), the tendency for people to act like you claim is minimal. I rarely had parties break up because someone was a bully. My experience was that players tended to treat each other with a decent amount of respect and I found myself re~queuing for additional dungeons.

Ok, so when you join someones game and you waste their time sitting in town getting lore or trading or whatever you are doing. I am sure they will be all peachy with you. Also I love that you brought up kick function...can't wait to see that in the hands of the community, that in itself is as bad as hostility haha.

Vote kicking actually solves a lot of problems with bullies. Combined with the ability to report players, it solves a lot of the problems. I don't plan on sitting there and ruining other player's fun though, so I really shouldn't have a problem. Sounds like you'll have a lot more problems with this system...g'luck!

Oh wait wait wait. Lets talk about that vote kick. Ok so 4 players...vote kick fails to work here. If it does be vote kick, I can join with 2 other people and really ruin someones game. So that feature is definitely out. That option will be left to party leader and party leader only.
But...what if I can hoax someone into making me party leader....what damage can I do then? There are so many flaws with what you are saying and I have so many ways to ruin someones experience if I want.
The bottom line is still that the game will be competitive, and dickheads will arise and "abuse" systems to make life hell for everyone. Sure it won't happen right away, but it didn't either in D2 ha. If you honestly think Hostility was the only downfall of D2 then you need to go replay it.

So, you're giving people even more reasons to not add Diablo 2 features. Excellent. A PvP player explaining exactly why we shouldn't add such features.
As for kick, it will be vote kick just like WoW. As for joining with 2 and being able to bully people. Sure you could, but the remaining two just report you for harassment and join a new game. No big deal.

No dude...I join with 2 other people. 1+2 = 3. That means 3 v 1...that 1 doesn't stand a chance.
I am not saying I am going to be doing this, because I will probably never step foot in a public game since experience isn't based on numbers of players. I personally have nothing to gain from playing with randoms. I am merely pointing out that there are many ways to still grief people, and there will be many more. With those ways to grief people will create conflict within the community and it will all boil down to competition.
I can't see it being vote kick also, 2v2 will just cancel each other out. It will be a pointless feature at that point and a waste of resources that can be better used for PvP(Look what I did!). It will definitely be a party leader option.

No, it'll be vote kick. The person being kicked won't get a vote likely and it'll be best of three. As for griefing creating competition. No, griefing is griefing and repeated bullying of other players will just get your account banned. Sorry, do you actually listen to yourself when you post?

Ha best of 3? Ok so and my buddy join your game. You try to kick me...how is that working out for you? Oh it's not...? Damn why not?
Griefing is the end effect of unhealthy competition. If I don't like your build or I don't like how you are playing the game, I can grief you out, either with insults, kick, or a ton of other methods.
People are going to compete over killing methods, skills, gear, and overall play speed. If you don't live up to their standards, then you will be griefed.
Like I said, it won't happen for a bit, or it might IDK I can't tell that. I can tell though that it always happens and it always will. The developer has no power to stop it, people who want to be elitist or "bullies" will be elitist or bullies, the more people they do it to the more people get corrupt and the more it happens.

You and your buddy join.. me and the other player try to kick you.. 2 (us) vs 1 (your buddy).. you get kicked. Another player joins, and we repeat the process with your buddy. If you continually bully other players and as such get kicked often, it sends a warning flag to Blizzard which gets you banned. You are forced to buy another game to repeat the process. Blizzard wins and we don't have to deal with you for another few weeks while you re~level and re~gear your character.
