The new class, act 5 and the loot runs look pretty cool but so far I am not very happy. I really don't feel like playing this game time after time with the unrandomized outside content for the current acts. On expansion day everyone will be rolling the new crusader class and once again we will have to play through this story line again (I have to grind my teeth in order to do so). I am not interested.
And lets not forgot... Still no death-match pvp.
I figured the RoS hype and cinematic would inspire me to pick up this game again but as predicted the hype is settling as everyone is waiting for new information from Blizzcon. Let's cross our fingers and hope that the game looks more decent to the people that are speculating.
the whole act 5 will have alot more randomization (outer edges) to make every playtrought of the act more unique.
That does sound neat and I am very happy with how act 5 sounds (darker and randomized). But that doesn't take away from the fact that the other 4 acts are still the same thing. I wish they could adapt their philosophy on act 5 and apply it to all acts, no?
you will most likely get whole new skills or redesigned skills and runes for most classes. so plenty to play around with.
This is something that I forget about a lot. :\ I am just on the fence. Personally I feel that I was screwed over with Diablo 3 at launch and part of me is saying don't invest any more time into this disaster while the other part is saying no no this game will eventually be good just wait.

They are also adding the Nephalem Trials which are basically random portals that offer random tasks for good loot.

Most of the adjustments in the game will be playable in vanilla at no cost. Play it for awhile and if your not happy then no worries. If your happy with the changes buy the expansion to access the new content.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
To be honest i don't see what is with all the PVP calls.... D2LOD was never about PVP, sure was PVP fun yes, was it core to the game in my own opinion no... so i really don't see PVP as that big of a problem... now for the old acts not being randomized, you cant really expect them to go back and work on 4 acts while doing everything else and only charging 40 bucks... i could see that if RoS does very well they may add act upgrades later on for free to help randomize the game some more... but in all honesty after everyone starts doing loot runs which will be completely randomized I don't think many people will care that most of the game is not random.
They also said that they are reworking a lot of the original acts. So that could mean big changes and more randomization. We will have to wait and see.

I guess... it was... just... lazy implementation to begin with... so lets all... forgive them... for being lazy...
Sorry I couldn't help myself. Usually one period does the trick. Remember who you are talking about, you are talking about Activision/Blizzard Entertainment. You would think with ALL of their resources they could manage to blow our minds with Diablo 3 and have the game at the standards it was held during the hype they created.

And so we shall :x I hope you are correct.
My bad I just start to get a little pissed every time a see a post that bring PVP into the core issues of the game. As for forgiving them I never really said that, but the fact is the damage they did is done nothing we can do about it. I do want to at least give them money for RoS because they finally seem to be listening to the majority of the community about the direction of the game.

You... You KNOW they don't pool their resources, right? Are you aware they are two separate developers, and they don't influence each other, right? You know that Activison Blizzard is DIFFERENT than Blizzard, right? They had merged to become sister companies, but Activision doesn't come over to Blizzards side and tell them to make one of the challenges a first person shooter, and Blizzard doesn't go over to Activisions side and tell them their CoD franchise needs raid bosses.
Sorry, had to call you out. It's extremely irritating when people don't know what they are talking about, and instead just puke out whatever they've heard without doing their own research. Blizzard is controlled / influenced by no one, and in fact just bought itself from it's former parent company, Vivendi.
Well PVP wasn't perfect in diablo 2 by no means. Infact I think PVP was the worst quality about diablo 2 because of how unorganized and fair it was. Diablo 3 had a chance to make grounds with passionate PVP'ers in Diablo 2 but did not. Sorry you don't feel this way but PVP is what brings the drama to the game and that is what some people want. Apart from PVP when I read Josh Mosqueira's interview saying they aren't bringing an open world to Diablo 3 I literally yelled "WHAT?!" almost dropping my coffee I was drinking that morning. To me this suggests that they are not interested in different modes to the game such as a non-story mode and such which is what I am willing to pay money for.
If the original left you high and dry, nothing wrong with waiting. The expansion is changing and adding lots of things, but there's really no way to know for sure if it's enough until there's more hands on impressions. It's all just hype until release day.

I'll admit it right now, I'm a bit spooked and I don't frickin blame others for being spooked. Can you imagine the vacuous exodus that would occur if we get about a week into 2.0 and we all are hit with the realization that nothing has really changed, they just raised the numerical values and drop rates?
I'm spooked, straight up. I haven't really heard a damn thing yet that says itemization will be fundamentally different. Adding 'Chance To Cast' isn't going to cut it.
That's why i think it is good that loot 2.0 and Para 2.0 are coming out before the Xpac that way we can see if the game is indeed moving into the right direction.

One thing mentioned was that all lengedaries can be found at all levels. Diablo 3 classic has very few legendaries at the top so many this will be a saving grace.

You get the Loot 2.0 patch prior to the expansion.
There's no reason to be "spooked" because you get a free trial of the system with no strings attached. Just keep calm dude, I get where you're coming from, but there's no reason for anyone to get too vested in this. As long as the Battle.net store is available you can purchase the digital copy whenever you want. No one is going to think less of you for holding out to try Loot 2.0 before pre-ordering or whatever.
I'll probably pre-order regardless, but I'm also obviously not as picky about the game as I never really stopped having fun with vanilla so far, although I have tried to moderate my game time.
So keep that in the back of your mind. I realize we don't have a timeframe on Loot 2.0 versus RoS, and that could put a little extra pressure on someone who is on the fence, but you definitely do not have to buy anything immediately.
Also bear in mind that Blizzard wants people like you to buy it so they're going to attempt to impress.
There's 2 other moments in the future in which your opinion might change.
One if when we know all the expansion details (hopefully Blizzcon has everything), and the "new" stuff they haven't revealed (PvP modeS?) gets you excited enough to pre-purchase it.
The other is when the expansion is actually released, people play it (me included) and post their impressions online on everything that has changed, and how the game "feels" for the first few weeks. That impression can, and will, change over the course of a couple months.
In either of those you can change your opinion on buying the expansion. If you made up your mind currently, you won't change it sooner.

i'll probably still buy the expansion, but to be fair if they are randomising the 5th act then i cant really see any excuses for not randomizing the rest of the game in the first place and especially for not 're-randomising' the rest of the game., this was one of the CORE aspects of original diablo games and what made repeating content so incredibly tolerable. I'm still playing but im seriously sick of pressing x to press skip all the dialogue. in diablo 1 and 2 if you skip the players speech then you skip everything they say and that's it!. dont make me press the same button on my 2nd, 3rd, X times through that's just a waste of energy and time as a programmer I'm pretty disgusted to see that such a simple principle for which there is a well established precedent has been ignored.
In addition if they choose not to randomise the rest of the acts then that becomes entirely incongruous and since one the primary things they have sought to achieve is to create balance across the acts then i both think and hope that they will at least eventually do this.
Seriously if act 5 is darker, more randomised and has at least equivalent drops to act 3 for example why would you not just play that act? + loot runs etc......so wont we just end up with another act 3 scenario if they dont???
You get the Loot 2.0 patch prior to the expansion.
There's no reason to be "spooked" because you get a free trial of the system with no strings attached.
You think I'm worried about $40?
I want this franchise to succeed. A very fun game to play, but there is much left to be desired.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about 2.0 and RoS. My confidence however, a bit shaken. Simply raising the numerical values and adding CTC would be a ridiculous failure IMO.
We need new item types. We need the Mystic to do something besides .....raising the numerical values of existing items and cosmetic tomfoolery. They better bring more to the table than that, is all I'm saying. I could give a fuck-all about the $40. I would feel ripped off on a far deeper level if the coming changes fall flat.
2.0 is my main concern, I'm not worried about RoS at all. 2.0 needs to sizzle when it hits the skillet. It needs to pop with new affixes, and that goes for rares as well. If it turns out that BiS means 100% of your gear slots filled with legendaries, color me sad.
And lets not forgot... Still no death-match pvp.

Was planning on it but the game is definitely not worth the money if I am not going to play a crusader.

@Bleu42 That was the most random rage/rant ever.
