1) You can upgrade one affix at a time, and most endgame items have 6 affixes. So essentially it's rather pointless. You might as well say "keep all your crap items with 6 affixes, you can upgrade them". From what we have seen, almost all stats are being buffed and can roll much higher values, just think about the 3k weapons.
2) He said that even people with awesome BiS gear should find upgrades on a regular basis, that pretty much confirms that all 60 gear will become useless at some point.
3) You're right that you shouldn't sell gear just yet. The expansion might still be a good year away. Why would anysone sell their gear now? That'd be stupid. On the other hand, I'll take it, so go ahead.
4) The interview has been posted before, even on the front page...

I understand the video was posted before but many people seem to have missed the comment on level 60 items using mystic to gain level 70 stats. THis is why i posted it.
Certain players with items with perfect trifecta might be interested in just Enchanting the main stat on gear. I thought it was good info to share tbh.
I would wait until Blizzcon to get all the details about the mystic and how she'll work. They didn't get into much of it. Such as; How whites and blues are going to be used as reagents.
Also, RoS is far from finished. The presence of the GAH/RMAH precludes Blizzard from trashing items with such careless impunity. Though legally Blizzard is covered from litigation regarding them rendering current items obsolete (see GAH/RMAH ToS), Blizzard doesn't want to infuriate people by having them install RoS and find out their BiS gears are entirely laughable overnight.
Bagstone; ...."that pretty much confirms that all level 60 gear will be useless at some point"
Not so fast. Maybe I'm dense but I'm going to venture that these devs are smarter than that. I do not think their goal is to render existing gear useless because they tweaked a system to make it easier to find great gear.
As an example, perhaps some system will be in place (via mystic) that not only allows you to choose which affix to re-roll, but perhaps randomly add a new affix or re-roll all affixes to a higher gear level. It would be a form of gambling with your now obsolete gear.
Myself, I have 3 mules utterly packed with disused Legendaries. Items that are either missing that one roll, or, items that have potential if a dynamic and sweeping re-roll process is implemented. Last Breath, Madstone, Firewalkers, Tyrael's etc etc.....items that potentially could be re-rolled into 2.0 items.
IF not, no sweat, I'll brim some 90 Legs and move on. As an insurance policy against regret, I'm retaining them in hopes they find a way to make use of the obsolete.

I think it was fine to post it. It has been posted before, but not with the intent of a specific discussion about one particular aspect. It's a good thread IMO.
I did sell mostly of my alt gear for a total of 4 billion, but i did keep my barb gear (which is my main).
I know that they will try to introduce a feature to upgrade 60 gear but i will prefer to try out new items, stack my gold to snipe the best weapon in ah bid on xpack !
If we can take our 60 items to 70 with the mystic it will prolly be long to uograde a whole char, this is mainly why i just kept my mai !

I understand, and I didn't want to sound dismissive, sorry if that came across wrong. I also totally agree with you that people shouldn't sell gear just yet. And if people might have missed it, a topic about that doesn't hurt. Didn't read that much into the interview yet.
@ruksak: just based on my experience from WoW in combination with that interview I felt like that gear will become useless at some point. Whether you replace it or enchant it is a different question though, of course. In any case, bottom line: don't sell your gear just yet. We have absolutely no idea what they'll present at Blizzcon.

Well said.
I'm really intrigued about whites and blues and the elusive comments about them being used as reagents. Reagents for what use, exactly? This one aspect I believe will come down with a boom and excite. At least I hope. It would be a stark disappointment if it turns out that their use for whites and blues is simply making them salvageable for random mats.
My honest hope is that this one aspect will be tuned to parallel how whites could be used in cube recipes to roll up, socket etc. However this time around, perhaps they could be used to produce iLvL70 rares etc.
Me thinks Josh wasn't playin in his excitement for Blizzcon. Expect a long and detailed convo about reagents, the mystic and the utilization of existing D3 vanilla items.

When I watched the announcement for the first time, I understood that white are salvageable materials and blues are for transmogrification. But not sure if that's exclusive. But yeah, if white items salvage into some specific cheap materials that you just need for enchanting, it would make them feel like an annoying necessity and burden upon farming. I sure hope there's more to it...
I liked the way enchanting (at Charsi) worked in D2; you were constantly looking for awesome white items as "basis" to create a new super rare item. Something along these lines, such that you don't have to pick up every white item, but you want to look at every white item because it might just be that white level 70 armor with very high base armor value that you were looking for to craft your super endgame armor.

On that we agree. I just think that all the details on the upcoming features are what made him so excited. I don't think there will be many big new features, like a new kind of PvE challenge (loot runs and Neph Trials are already one more than could've dreamed of ;-)).

You're right and i'm with you on that. Neph Trials and Loot Runs is more than enough, in respect to PvE end-game.
Itemization........it needs to be the most overwhelming aspect of the coming changes. IMO that's where the real endgame is in Diablo. I don't want them to copy D2 itemization, I want them to be inspired by it. I want them to find that same dynamic that charms, a multitude of gems, jewels and runes, ethereal, cube recipes, good 'ol butch dyke Charsi, Rune Words etc etc added to the game.
Break that linear mold using a plethora of customization options and recipes to give us that lottery scratch-off feeling when fudging around with reagents and the Mystic.

Someone (I presume who was at Gamescom and played the demo) said that Enchating an item requires salvaged parts from white items. I think it's in the big RoS stickied thread.
I don't recall anyone else reporting that particular material being used for other things, but we shall see.
Myself, I have 3 mules utterly packed with disused Legendaries. Items that are either missing that one roll, or, items that have potential if a dynamic and sweeping re-roll process is implemented. If you don't mind sharing, what other legs/sets do you think that could be re-rolled into something interesting?
Although we haven't heard much detail about it, the smart stats feature coming to items is going to be a big itemization change as well. So unless we are able to reroll those via the mystic, 60 gear may as well be useless I the new endgame of RoS.

Well....I'm just speculating. It's entirely possible that all 1.08 items will be obsolete compared to the iLvL70 2.0 whoppers that are coming. My hopes are that Blizz will implement some manner of utilizing vanilla Legs in respect to the Mystic.
I would guess that this discussion is mixing up what Blizzard have said, and what their intentions are; my impression was that our existing gear would not become obsolete with loot 2.0, as new items will be more build-specific, you might still want to have a generally good EHP/DPS gear (achievable now).
A big however, however, is RoS. I can't possible imagine that our current gear will have any uses there. Even if the mystic allows you to upgrade it, how would that be different from just identifying a new item for the same slot? I assume that rerolling an affix will mean rerolling it not to a new value, but to a new affix AND value. Otherwise it would be terribly easy to get good gear. And I further assume that not all affixes can be rerolled on the same item. There's bound to be a limit. And there's no mystic in the vanilla side of the patch.
There are a few reasons not to sell, of course, the first one being that you need something to use right away when the patch hits (you could downgrade at a profit, perhaps), secondly, that you need something until then if you are one of the people that still play. As for inflation, that could be solved by selling to RMAH.
I can cash out my gear now for a few grand and have nothing to farm with. Or I can bank on the idea of my existing gear automatically re-rolling to higher stats. Or I can use my existing gear to farm for better gear (hopefully) come expansion. Or pray the mystic allows me to re-roll everything.
I'm just gonna keep my gear. I need it to level my second wizard to 100.
