Fast forward some more. Diablo 3 is "being delayed", not officially but we all know that's what happened. Then it got delayed officially. The first actual official delay of a Blizzard game.
No, not the first. Burning Crusade got delayed officially too.
Shit is now going to hit the fan. Hundreds of thousands of people are pointing fingers at the not-deliverance of the game. So what do Blizz do? They rush it. Many features are left out for future patches, balancing is not at an all time high and the game's server-side hardware is just not there yet. But the community had to have the game now. It had waited 10 years, they needed it RIGHT NOW. And so it happened.
Ouch. Very naive to think that the game got rushed because of the fans (us).
Here we are now. The love child of Jay and company comes to fruition and it's not what Blizzard usually deliver. It's not, because Blizz usually deliver when they feel like it. This time they didn't. They succumbed to the "fans" and this is the result. The game is not finished, everyone calls it a Beta, features are missing, lots of work to be done.
Look, that's how Blizzard develops games for more than seven years now. "Iterative development" they call it. Ever since WoW, they don't release finished products, but only a basic playable product, that gets patched up with content and mechanics over time. Every single wow expansion was full of bugs on release. After patch 4.0, and two months before Cataclysm the game was barely playable. Core features, like raids didn't work for two weeks. They literally finished beta testing on the live game.
Rushing out Diablo 3 is nothing special and nothing new. It's how Blizzard works. But the actual date was a financial decision, and a simple one: it couldn't overlap with MoP or HotS.
That is pretty much me, Though 1.0.4 has really sparked some excitement within me.
I like everything slated for 1.04 except the MF change. I envisage hoards of characters with nothing but MF/GF gear joining public games hoping someone with a full set of DPS gear will join and carry them through. But since no MF is being shared now there is no incentive. I really want public games to work somehow.

Opinions. I think WoW launches have had excellent progress over the years, getting from horrible, to bearable, to very mild inconveniences. And I don't remember any problems with Cata launch or pre-launch.
But I do retract about the delayed part, BC was indeed officially delayed as well.

Iterative development is a fact, Blizzard employees regularly use the term. It's even listed on their job application page. Before Diablo 3 launch Jay even said that they already scheduled bugfix patches, even though they don't know all bugs that will be fixed in them. They simply know something will come up. That's inherent with complex online systems.
WoW launch bugs are factual too. Check up the patchnotes of first bugfix patches (4.0.3 was the launch patch for Cataclysm, 4.0.6 was the balance and bugfix patch after release).
And it's not an opinion when neither our 25-men nor our 10-men raid couldn't raid two weeks after patch 4.0 because of silly invite, instance lockout, login and whatever bugs. As I said it was two months, meaning way before Cataclysm launch events and eventual launch, but still, a very annoying and unpolished patch was released on the live game.

Of course they will have such patches? Why wouldn't they? There isn't a single game that comes out bug-free and most developers never even care to patch up the mess they've made. Is it bad politics to know your game is not perfect and you're just waiting for the community to tear down the game and find exploits for invulnerable characters and the like, so that you can then fix it?
Also when a WoW expansion is launched Blizz don't stop development to see how the sales go. 4.0.3, 3.0.3 and 2.0.3 have been the patches they release with because that's on the disc that was sent a few weeks beforehand for printing. During that time they've found more bugs and have the next patch ready for when the game is finally on gamers' disk drives. After which they continue to fix bugs. I really don't see your point. Are you saying fixing the game after its release is a bad thing? Or that Blizz know about some bugs that showed up 2 days ago, but decided not to postpone the game, just because they've announced its date months ago? Are you saying they should have? Hm?
Sorry but I just don't get what you're saying. Not to take offense or anything. Maybe if you elaborate?
Also as I stated previously I've had no issue with pre-Cata launch. The game and raids were completely playable for me. Have not even heard of your issue.
Yeah...not so much. Also, regarding the comment made that it was the fastest selling PC title, I'm pretty sure I could've pressed dog shit into a circle and put that in a case labelled "Diablo 3" and it would've sold. Delusional
You said it.
Private conversation or not... I watched the actual interview here, and he didn't really bad mouth the game. He said it was different than what he would have done, and a different game and direction altogether. He was actually pretty diplomatic about it.
All he said about Jay Wilson was that he has experience designing RTS games, which made a difference. Jay got butthurt over that?
Jay... your vision is terrible, your game sucks, and your attitude is worse. Fuck you, loser.
I would laugh my ass off if Blizzard fired Jay Wilson and hired Brevik to fix things.

The comment about Jay having experience with RTS was actually made by the interviewer.
What likely made Jay do what he did (if it was him) was how Breivik said "I am also a little happy" because the game didn't get the positive feedback that Diablo 2 had with Breivik in the lead.

I always thought the critics were very hard on D2 when it launched.
Then again, I wasn't the most critic person back then (was just a kid) and might not have researched a lot (we didn't have google), but I still have a couple magazines (one brazilian, one american) with very very harsh critics on the game's "outdated graphics, repetitive gameplay, and lacking singleplayer/multiplayer features" (sounds familiar?).
I wonder if my memories are that wrong? Maybe I was too young

Oh, you're right! I just watched it again. And it was the interviewer. In fact, I don't think Brevik singled out anyone, did he? He said something about "Blizzard South" and how they had a different vision and took the game in a different direction that he would have, and that much is obvious.
Jay cannot use the whole "it's the best selling PC game of all-time" bit. People did not buy it because it was sure to be the best game ever, and they didn't buy it because of the reviews. They bought it because of Diablo and Diablo 2. I bet if Jay Wilson has a hand in making a Diablo 4 (possibly even just the D3 xpac), it won't sell nowhere near as much. And I think that says more, if Diablo 3 sold X copies and its expansion sells only 1/3 of that.
If I were in Brevik's shoes, I'd probably feel the same way.

I honestly don't remember. I played Diablo when it first came out, and loved it. So naturally, I bought D2. I've always considered it a personal task to find "the right game", and Diablo/2 fit the nitch for that type of game. So I loved them, regardless of what anyone else said. I didn't read reviews or anything. As far as I was concerned, Diablo 2 was the best thing out there, bugs and all, and I was just happy when they were fixed and such. Naivety was great back then.
If I worked my ass off to bring my vision to life, and with great success, and then got the axe from the company I delivered it through, only to have some joker come along 10 years down the road trying to make a name for himself off my baby, I would be pissed. I think Brevik did great in his interview. I kept watching to see how much he clinched his teeth.

Also, for the record, I'm not defending anyone here yet. Just read about this right now, still trying to make up my mind what to think of this. Just pointed out something that I remember being one way and that I always see other players reminding that it was the opposite.
Right now, after reading Daemaro's reply I'm not sure what to think. I can't even be 100% sure if it was really Jay Wilson who said that. And even if it was, I'm not sure I condemn him for doing so. It's a social network, not a press conference or the company's annual meeting. But I'm still working on that opinion knee-jerking opinions/reactions is for cavemen, let's analyse the situation and think about it.
I mean, should we even go into the merit of whether or not this is right when we don't even know if it really happened (that's called preliminaries in Law)?
I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if what he posted was proven wrong by following posters and the real Jay Wilson actually posted it. Can someone enlighten me on it?
There is a handful of people claiming they made sure through checking the link that it was actually Jay Wilson who posted it and not the guy who just happened to have changed his name to Jay Wilson, his profile picture, liked all the comments supporting Jay Wilson in that post, and then posted about how much he hated Jay Wilson after he stirred the pot.
The the comment is gone, which may look suspicious until you think about it. You can literally make another account, name it Jay Wilson and have the exact same picture and say what you want. Also if you notice in the likes, a lot of them are liked by "Jay Wilson Eats Toomuch" Which was probably the troll that had his name as Jay Wilson.
It's pretty common. Usually I see it in the form of...
Person A: I love puppies
Person B: ^ is a moron
Person C: ^ Is a dumbass
Then person B removes his comment. and it looks like person C just called person A a dumbass. In any event I highly doubt it's true, and not "oh well you're a moderator you have to say that." No. I could say yeah he's a diick and jump the bandwagon but it seems pretty clear to me someone was trolling, and it was successful.
Also notice how "Jay Wilson Eats TooMuch" has no friends, is a new account, and is now trying to "point out what happened" after he liked the comment "Jay Wilson" supposedly left. So he was so against what was said he liked the comments? Oh he also happened to change his name from "Jay Wilson".
Edit: The amount of people willing to just believe this without looking more is astonishing. You think Jay would actually post something like that? He'd be fired almost immediately.
That explains the comment on the developer's Facebook page as well as the others who made their comment as well? I'm not sure I buy it. Trolled by a group of trolls? I don't doubt it can happen, but you know what we will need...
...Official Blizzard statement, either Mike Morhaime saying Jay got fired, or Jay having to kiss the ass of the real Diablo designer... or proof it was neither Jay nor ANY of the devs.

Initially, you stated that Diablo 3 was rushed because of the pressure from the community. Then you described Blizzard as a company which usually delivers perfectly balanced, bug-free games (or at least games much more polished than Diablo 3).
But I think neither statements are true, and with your last post, you kind of agree with me
