Seriously, GTFO and go troll another game's forum, afaik this is Diablofans.com, not DiabloHATERS.com. Point out 5 other games this year that give same value for money.
For the expansion:
Angiris council decides to destroy sanctuary?
Imperius goes evil?
Ugh Im tired of the D2 was crap when it first came out comments, it was LoD that ruined the game.
As for an expansion, its quite simple, Leah has a twin brother Luke, who Adria was taking care of this whole time. The next expansion will be called Return of Jediablo.
Rune words hands down ruined the game, giving hammerdins teleport and battle orders removed any class synergy the game already had. The best dps in the game no longer needed a sorc to taxi for him, or a barb to shout, you guys probably have no clue what I'm talking about either. LoD was probably the greatest for you...
> A strength based class. I like the idea of a shape shifting druid, being able to use 2 or 3 different forms i.e. Bear and Werewolf (as in LoD) and maybe others like Boar, Tiger etc etc.
It could either be a skill and have 5 different runes which change the form (though this would just become a MUST have skill) or there could be a skill for each form and the runes effect the damage output/survivability.
EG Bear form is a skill, in this form you take reduced damage, hit slower but hit harder. In that the runes could be things like a cleave attack, a DoT (posion?) added on each hit, a CD damage reduction (akin to Barb's Ignore Pain) etc etc. Werewolf would then be another skill/form where you do minor life leech, have slightly faster attacks and other abilities like we saw in LoD. The Tiger form could be a bit more glass cannon-y, you take more damage but you attack faster than any other form and have increased move speed etc
> A new gem (diamond for eg) that would give all res when inserted in armour slots, increase or buff resource generation/management when in weapons and (one that I'm a bit stuck on) reduce movement impearing effects when in the helm.
> Runes, though perhaps without rune words. They could be legendary items and add unique/specific attributs and effects when sloted into items. There could be class specific ones, lore related etc etc.
> A new crafter, probably the Mystic. New recipes for JC and BS
> A new act, more content, new items etc etc. The typical expansion game lengthener.
My money is defiantly on at least one of the classes (i'm hoping two for an expac, but probably 1) will be a strength user. There's also the obvious niche missing of a animal handler (summoner) / shape shifter / nature type, and I'm really hoping for a cool twist on the druid if they do decide to use him =D
It just dawned on me we are all going to go through the steps again for the expac; Sign of announcement, sign of beta, sign of release date, ect =D
Ah.. .that was fun lol
Oh, and they totally should go to the void and save leah. I'm assuming using a way to the void was how Adria got a hold of all the other souls for the black soulstone, and since she's sill alive and the black soulstone is still floatin out there somewhere, we should find it, capture her, and go to the void, save leah, and (how awesome would it be) maybe fight the 'true' forms of Mephisto / Baal / Diablo / Durial / Andarial and so on =D Plus it gives Blizzard another reason to add the butcher again! lol

There were also some good things about lod, namely runes/charms and uniques that were actually usefull and it was only a select few runewords that were broken...Enigma,cta etc but apart from that lod was a fantastic x-pac imho.
I disagree.
Charms weren't terrible but cluttered my inventory, the anni and torch charms were also bad additions. In the end you could get so many plus skills, you could skip synergies entirely and build tri-specs. Which I actually did enjoy playing a tri-specced sorc, however I felt this took away from the game more than it added.
Runes in the end made rune words, and while I mentioned the two that destroyed class synergy, there were plenty of other that added paladin auras, Infinity was pretty much mandatory for element casters to break immunity. Breath of the Dying was barely rivaled by any other weapon other than it's Ith counter part. Runes on their own weren't used very much, Ist, Eth, and Um. Did I miss any? I guess Zod for ethereals, and Cham for pvp.
I liked that rares were the best items in the game, I know this doesn't make sense to people to have a quality of gear higher than rare yet weaker in stats. I agree that it seems dumb, or is dumb, however part of the allure was that certain affixes needed to be rolled high enough on the rare to give it a certain color. Finding the rare you wanted with the right mods and color was one of favorite things about them. Clearly dyes made it easy, so what ever, but when LoD came out, it was all about certain set pieces, uniques, and runewords, and maybe one of your rings and amulet was rare or crafted.
Crafting and rolling diablo/baal charms was probably the highlight for me when it came to LoD. Oh and of course the two new classes, silly me for forgetting.
First off I want to say D3 is an incredible value. Almost everyone reading this is getting top notch entertainment for less than $1 an hour. That being said, the expansion packs are going to similar to WOW in the sense that it will probably kill the existing content, because it will become too easy. If you've played WOW (which on this forum is a 4 letters, not 3), you know that on the expansions, you know the drops off random mobs at the START of an expansion are better than your top rated drops that you spent weeks grinding through the same raid for months. This design gives the previously maxed out players a reason to play again.
Can you imagine the uproar people are going to have after spending $ at the RMAH and then finding out the blues from the expansion are more powerful than their item they spent $250 on?
The future of Diablo is not going into some cave which descends down unlimited levels, the future is buying an expansion to get more play. In a sense Diablo is a content subscription based game.
Rather than just release new levels, the expansion will provide a time to improve upon the game mechanics. Here are my ideas (which I liberally stole from others) & feel free to share yours:
#1 Yes, we all know and there are blue posts proving this...the drops rates for sets & legendaries are built around the auction house. So what about having sets being much more common. I'm level 60 and still have not found one set item. Sets in the expansion will be just like McDonald's Monopoly game, the last item in the set is VERY RARE, and maybe 2 items in the set are very uncommon. That way, there can be sets that everyone can find and enjoy without using the AH, but if you want a complete set, then you'll have to save your gold.
#2. Weapons can have special effects so DPS is not the defining factor anymore. What about a bow, which leaves trails of fire? Or a shield which can sometimes stun people when you get hit. Or boots which leave a trail of frost. Or a mace which causes enemies to explode when they die? Point is, with special abilities residing inside the gear, it will no longer be just about DPS, but about the fun factor of an item.
#3 More randomization of levels. Right now, Blizzard went top $ on production value and you can see how big of building blocks they used for the "random" levels. Maybe this was to make the levels seem grand, but they need to go back to D2 style by making the random level building blocks smaller, so that they random levels appear much more random. This will give it a lot more replayability.
#4 This is the time to release the + levels that Kripp was talking about. Whenever you gain a + level, you get just 1 stat point to place where you want. One point is nothing, but it allows you to get rewarded w/ experience points vs just gold for playing.
#5 More random events, booby traps, etc. Random optional quest givers in the middle of a dungeon.
1: No its not, at all, as has been stated hundreds of times by blues. Stop feeding the masses false information. You are basing this on what one blue posted which was then recanted by himself and every other diablo 3 dev/blue in existence.
2: /shrug DPS will still matter, will just be harder to tell if a weapon + effect is actually higher DPS than another. I would rather outright kill a mob than drop a cool line of fire that might burn him a little if he gets to move towards me.
3: Levels are random enough as they are. No need to waste money to placate whining babies.
4: I hope they don't increase levels at all and instead just add max level content.
5: agreed.
As to expansions, the expansion for D2 only added content, not levels. If D3 expansions increase levels I will probably quit because as you said, all our gearing would have turned out to be nothing more than wasted time, massive amounts of wasted time.

#1, Didn't realize that one blue post was recanted. Saw it on another website and didn't know the context. The dependancy of the AH for some item types still resonates with me, because of the very limited # of sets. As a level 60 player, I still haven't encountered one set of anything. I can't imagine putting together a matching set in a less than 300 hours. Sets to me = auction house. In all practicality, matching sets are only feasible to me through the AH. Whether or not that was a conscious design decision is irrelevant.
#2 Some people go for DPS for grasp of the dead Rune and some people go for max slow effect rune. Some people go for Dire Bats and some people go for cloud of bats. Point is, the way things do damage can be just as important as how much damage. To me it's more fun to have variety of effects than having a single # of importance, where one is clearly better than the other. This also provides a qualitative variety in weapons versus just a quantitative difference.
#3 To each their own. I get the I've been there before feeling and I believe with smaller building blocks, levels can have a greater variety. You like Duplos, I like Legos. Personal preference.
4. I recall Jay wilson saying that having everyone cap at level 60 makes expansion packs so much easier to release, because everyone is at the same level. The marketing will be so much more compelling to say now you can have a level 70 Barbarian. If you don't get the expansion, you're stuck at 60. More people will buy it if you can have a higher level cap.
Also, How would it be possible for everyone to keep their weapons from farming Inferno? Wouldn't that be boring if you can't gain levels and can't find better weapons? If better weapons are not available and you need to farm the hell out of inferno to play the expansion, then, the only people who could play the expansion are people who spend hundreds of hours farming. The headlines would be hilarious, "Blizzard releases expansion pack that only 50,000 people can play. In response to the millions of people who bought the original D3, Blizzard says play it for 300 more hours before buying the expansion."
5. Glad we agree on this. One of the magical moments that happened to me during the Beta, was opening up a chest right before the skeleton king. It looked boobie trapped and it was. I got swarmed by a bunch of skeletons. It'd be great to see more events like that. Or even hidden things where you can pull on a torch attached to a wall, that looks like it's part of the background and a secret room opens up. So many possibilities.
im not been negative, im just saying i have no idea what they could do to add on,and what i mean by that is

My take on this view will refer to the backwards view of politics that the people of the United States have on their failing education systems, "Our schools are failing so our tax dollars are better spent elsewhere." No, that makes no sense. We should be spending more money on education so they don't fail.
An expansion for this game presents the best opportunity to fix everything wrong. I also enjoy this franchise and I want more.

I agree that the expansion could fix everything... mostly because Blizzard has a pretty good/bad track record with games and their expansions.... Warcraft 3? Diablo 2? I would also argue the same was true of Starcraft 1.
Though in reference to your analogy, the problem isn't whether we're spending too much or not enough money, but that people like to boil it down to how much money is being spent instead of what's being done with it... similarly, the fact that an expansion pack will be made doesn't guarantee that it will be fixed, nor does the fact that there are flaws in the current game necessarily mean that an expansion pack is the answer. In the past they've used expansion packs to fix the flaws in the base game, but if the problems players have with the current game are more philosophical than mechanical, it's less likely that those flaws will be rectified in future expansions. (In other words, if your problem is that you don't like how the demon hunter plays right now, or that you think more systems should be added, an expansion pack is likely going to help you. If your problem is that you dislike the existence of the auction house, or the idea of farming the highest level of difficulty for gear, you're probably not going to like the expansion any more than you liked the base game... unless Blizzard changes their philosophy far more than I think they will.)

They had to "consider" the accessibility of items from the auction house when coming up with drop rates. They couldn't make legendaries drop like uniques in D2 because it would cause them to become too prevalent

I think people forget the fact that Items are not added to the AH's, ALL those items on the AH are there because people take the time and actually farm new items to put up there.
And who are the people who do this?
Well, pre 1.0.3, GLASS CANNON DH'S, or people with enough fg that they could've bought out their gear before even getting the game
now the situation is slightly more appealing though

Actually I've been around for years, just didn't post anything yet since I didn't feel like it, but I've become sooo tired of people like you saying "this game sucks, Blizzard fucked up so bad on this and this and that, everything is around RMAH" etc.
If you don't like the game, move on.
I've been playing games online and offline for 16 years. There are a few game studio's that ALWAYS make top notch games, no exceptions and games are always a blind buy: Blizzard and Rockstar for example.
Those of you complaining about customer support: Blizzard has one of the best customer support divisions in the world. Try getting into contact with a GM or CM in another game, you'll get my point. Do you know how many games don't even have official patch notes? How many dev's don't bother communicating about patches?
Those of you complaining about Activision/Blizzard trying to rob you with RMAH: nobody is forcing you to use RMAH, Gold is still around. And check out EA and Valve for example, the shit they tryin to sell to ppl, The way FPS games are milked with ppl having to pay for the same map pack every year.
Call me a fanboi all you want, but I've had it with people complaining about every single fuckin thing. D2 was great, sure, but its far from the godly game everyone seems to be remembering.
Complaining about D3 by todays standards in games is like complaining the champagne is too warm and the caviar is too cold. You've got your hands on one of the best games of the year, shut up and enjoy it or move on.
I think we all know that the "Prophet" will play an important role in the next expansion.
You mean Inarius? Most-likely
AFAIK Inarius and Lilith are trapped in the void, would be kind of lame to bring them back AGAIN(would be the second time Lilith escapes)
And I don't think the Prophet is Inarius, since its been thousands(?) of years since he got banished.

And I don't think the Prophet is Inarius, since its been thousands(?) of years since he got banished.
