I tried to defend the dev team for these mistakes, to be honest you cant blame all of blizzard, everyone doesn't work on it. I will be back when pvp is implemented but as of now the game is uninstalled and I really have no motivation to play. I will still support blizzard however as they really do a fine job as a whole compared to other companies. I have a 60 DH on Hardcore waiting in the wings until pvp is released.
i wouldnt say the game is dumbed down that much, in fact its less dumbed down than diablo 2, what do you do when you make a diablo 2 character? click all skills that synergize, no brainer there, with D3 you have to be careful with your skill combos, put thought into it and not just pick the next best synergy, sure you can skill swap, but that doesnt mean that every combo is good., and there are all of the ways skills can change with runes, LOTS of strategy to be had here, how is this dumbed down?
Exactly.
Str to equip, Dex to hit, and everything else into Vit was hardly the pinnacle of complexity as well.
ATM this game is far from being complex and for the most part most synergies don't exist because many builds aren't viable at the moment. I wasn't trying to state that D2 was complex; I'm saying when video games are created they target teenagers, most fans of the series start Diablo when they were young. The min str max vit approach has been changed to, stack Damage modifier stat (Dex/Str/Int + IAS) with all resistances. They at least nerfed IAS so we have more options in stat distribution.
As for skill combinations:
Normal - Max DPS/Fun abilities, endless combinations but no need for any CC or defense (Same approach as D2)
Nightmare - Same thing, maybe add one defensive ability and or passive.
Hell - Some thought process must begin and more often than not a balanced build is required (this is the only complex difficulty TBH)
Inferno - Max DPS Glass Cannon or Max defense/CC (High extremes in either spectrum not any different than D2).
Once classes/skills are balanced and addressed maybe there will be some complexity in skill choice, but I don't think it exists ATM.
D3: Find high damage spell + Oh shit button + Resource generator
D2: Max Damage Spell + Deal with immunity Spell + Utility Spell (Teleport)

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I am no longer a fan of Blizzard, since patch 1.0.3 and the rampant mistakes the patch has, over and above the "bugged" equipment stats (yeah as if that wasn't done to sway AH prices), instead of dealing with poorly timed animations causing rubberband death, laggy servers and super crappy loot drops the development team is busy banning people from the forums that disagree with the brown-nosers who are DIRECTLY insulting those of us that are frustrated. Maybe Blizzard needs a third party to come in and FIX their game for them, it's become obvious all they are concerned with is whether or not the RMAH makes $. The real reason die hard diablo fans didn't get a real diablo 3 is simple, the team that actually put it together and made it great all left when a French company took it over and changed the corporate agenda, to pure profit, no fun for you, we decide whats fun, aren't you thankful?
Tbh, we don't really care if you are a fan of Blizzard or not.
Are you really going to cry about RMAH? Blizzard earns 1$ per item sold, they don't make changes in the game because of RMAH.
Infact they even nerf easy-farm areas so that the AH won't get spammed with loot. Which means less money for them.
The Development team is not handling any bans at all, they are actually developing the game.
The CM team on the forum and the Support team that you contact through the ticket system is not the same team. Reporting someone through a ticket does not generate more work for Bashiok or anyone else on the forums because it's not their job to handle the tickets.
The CMs got the job of moderating the forum and reporting feedback from the forum to the Development team.
The development team is also divided in different teams but keeping it simple here so that your small mind can get it.
The Development team is the team that executes and decides upon game-changes, blaming Bashiok that a place was nerfed is like blaming the Janitor at the mall for the high prices.
If you do not like how certain CMs act on the forum you can actually provide feedback to their supervisors.

Excuse me, are you saying that Hell is complex?
Hell is just as easy as hell in Diablo2, where you can play almost anyway you want without being afraid of dying.
If you miss diablo2 that much and think that the Skill Diversity is so low in Inferno that you feel sick, then just play Diablo2 or stay in Hell as that is the Difficulty for you.
You could kill everything in Diablo2 with almost any damage skill available (some dude lvl a new Sorc and did Hell with it without outside help with only using Fireball).
Same is true for Diablo3 in hell, you can do it with almost any damage skill available.

I was actually bored of D2 I think four or five years ago, but thanks for making the assumption D2 hell mode was a breeze with dupped items and LoD. Play through first time without any saved gear and it wasn't a cakewalk. Same applies to D3, I didn't buy one thing from the AH and I personally found that I actually started to die. I bought some cheap crap in late hell mode and yes it became a cakewalk after that.
I find it amusing you actually think skill is a major factor to play D3, it's mainly gear driven just like D2 and D1. It's sure fun though, just not complex.

I didn't say that Diablo3 was complex, nor did I say that Inferno needed skills. But from most posts I have seen here, official forums and Reddit I can see that there is even people with full ilvl63 that can't beat Inferno no matter how much they try.
I didn't suggest that you go to Hell because Inferno is hard for you, I suggested that you go to Hell because it seems like from that post that you enjoy the ability to use any skill you think are fun.
Your point on using AH in D3 makes it easy and using saved/bought gear in D2 makes it just as easy is true.
But the guy that leveled from 1-Kill Baal on Hell (can't remember what level he got to) on a Sorc and only used Fireball didn't use any saved gear, he got all his drops from farming, if he couldn't beat a boss or complete a quest he went back and farmed up his level and gear.
It's the same for D3 on Hell, you won't have a super easy time the first time you get there without using AH.
Wow. You mean you got to play the game that the "original team" made, that "made it great"?
How the $@#& do you know how great it was? STFU and take your whining somewhere else. You come in here yelling a bunch of BS, which is your own opinion and delusions, as if they were fact.
Surely, you would not dare to behave in a similar manner. I also think you are the kind who has been sitting on the last bench in the class room for a while now. You are jsut beeing rude and should, after glancing over your post once more really come to the same conclusion.

Inferno was initially made so barely anyone can beat it, the problem is inferno is perceived (the WoW approach to itemization didn't help) to be normal farming grounds for everyone to aspire to. Due to the initial inferno concept, it wasn't tested and like you stated even if you are geared and don't have above average skills you are pigeon holed into specific builds or just /quit.
The only reason I like Hell mode isn't because of the faceroll but the fact I could use more builds other than VQ Bears or Splinter build. The WD has some awesome spells but I stopped using them a long time ago because they are simply useless, granted I know the WD is underpowered and I've been leveling a Monk/Barb/Wiz at all once and maybe it isn't as bad for those classes... but from what I read it isn't much different.
As to the guy who did everything with fireball that’s just plain skill > game. I bet you not many people could do that. I know I stated it’s mainly gear that drives progression and that applies to 95-99% of the player base, only a few people can actually exploit the game with pure skill. The approach of finding your own gear is fun and I think, give the best possible enjoyment this game can offer. The hard part is I'm becoming a casual gamer (even if I was still young, most kids these days want instant progression anyways) and it's pretty hard to resist buying a piece of gear that is 2-5 times better for 5000 gold.
I agree that inferno can really force you to study your build since you can really get your ass handed to you, but most builds are just stacked with the same abilities of mitigation and CC. This is not different than previous Diablo's because it turns into mashing your left/right mouse button and as soon as shit is off CD hit it 1-4 and repeat. The only difference is you actually press your 1-4's somewhat more often than your F1 - F4.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
True, my monk is using the same build as like 95% of all other monks (with an exception of the few rare Daibo wielding monks).
Mantra, Heal, Serenity, Blind, Sweeping Winds and a Spirit Generator, the funny part is I really like the build, it's fun to play and I actually did choose these skills before I saw any guides about monks.
I probably wouldn't change it too much even if the 1.1 patch makes the other skills viable, unless they break the build by changing some skill in it ofcourse.
I did buy my gear on AH tho, but the fun in the game, for me, is finding gear to sell. I use my gold to upgrade my gear when possible. And the really good items is put on the RMAH for the chance to earn some pocket money.
The AH overall must be one of the best features of Diablo, but that's just me.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Beating Diablo2 with Fireball is not an easy feat, but it is a proof that anything is possible and I am sure that something similar is possible in Diablo3 aswell. Hmm, might be something to do when bored. Don't buy stuff from AH, don't farm stuff with other characters. Choose a build you want to use and then complete the game on Hell, try to progress Inferno with it, might not be easy/possible but won't hurt to try!
Damnit, brb gonna go test out some builds on my characters and then choose the one that is most fun and do it all again.
You're not allowed to suggest that Blizzard North was anything short of infalliable. They were the gods of everything. Nothing they ever did could have ever been wrong. You're also not allowed to suggest that Activision-Blizzard could have possibly done something better than Blizzard North. It's a federal offense and the lynch mob will be lighting their torches and coming for your head along with Jay Wilson's head.
There is no place on these forums for being reasonable and calm.
You know what's even funnier? Those of us who actually kept track of the game critics and community feedback back then know how much Diablo 2 got heavily criticized for "abandoning it's rogue roots", for "being in development for 3 years and having crappy 2D graphics/textures" and for how the "itemization game was lacking and everything was bread and butter".
I think I still have gaming magazines with all that negative criticism and feedback in my personal archives (I keep them all :P). I did expect the gaming community to have grown slightly more mature though.
and i remember playing diablo 1, then playing diablo 2, and having none of those criticism. My only criticism for BOTH of those games was the hacking and duping. You dont rely on magazines or game critic sites to tell you anything. most of the time they are blowing smoke. Look at all the hype around current games that have either failed, or didnt meet expectations? all praised by the major game critics.
To get a real review, you go to the small indie reviews, because they dont give a fuck, they have nothing to lose.

This game is hemorrhaging players faster than The Old Republic.
Yeah. I bet millions of people who bought D3 will only play it for 10 times longer than the average console game, have their fun, then move on. What a terrible, terrible game. Apparently.

The forums back then had people making the same claims, it weren't only magazines and critics. A lot of the D1 fans voiced their dissatisfaction in much the same way as people do today. I clearly remember the old diabloii.net site and even battle.net, full of angry fans, saying things like, "the gothic feel is gone", "the world is too shinny, take the game back underground", "high level items are uninspiring", "skill points lost the feel of Diablo, bring back tomes"... Yeah, people were very angry at the time.
