Here are just some of my personal thoughts on why this game will not last anywhere near as long as d2 did. Each person has their own opinion and I respect that and am open to discuss them. I am not however ready to deal with close minded people saying things like " you cannot compare the two games", or any insult so i will simply ignore them.
-This game is linear, directed by quest, meaning each act is separate and the user cannot explore everything at will, this will lead to the game getting old faster because you HAVE to do things in order.
-There is nothing to do at 60 but get more gear for no purpose, D2 had ubrs, this has Inferno mode? which is the same game already played 3 times just "harder".
-Gems are boring and have small use, Back in d2 runes and runewords were farmed, adding months to the game.
-People hit level cap in under a day, it took weeks to hit level 99 in d2.
-Gear is horrid, some piece you find in normal can last you until 60 and sometimes even for a while there. There is no Gap between 20's and 50's. That difference should be pretty big.
- Yellow, Blues, Legendary, they seem to be very similar with no Huge difference in quality.
-The auction house will greatly reduce the grind, not to mention it has horrible ui
-Bots are already spamming, we have this tiny chat square that holds 8 lines of text and cannot be customized. (minor issue but annoying)
-D3/sc2 are anti-social. You cannot just go into a chat room and talk to people. It is all focused on gameplay and will burn people out quickly
- Some skills are NEEDED and have to be used to manage the character, full customization is a myth.
Do not get me wrong I was waiting for this game for years, it just seems that the "New" games, d3 and scII do not live up to their previous counterparts. I believe they should have waited before releasing this game.
You seem to be comparing D3 in week 1 with D2 after several years of patches and expansions. I'm not sure that's a useful reference point.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
And you, obviously, do not understand what the game is about. This is not WoW, Many of your points pertain to a WoW-like game, not an evolved Diablo. You probably should delete the game from your hard drive before you get even more frustrated.

Have a wonderful day.
All the issues refer do diablo 2, if you are getting WoW out of it you are seeing something that is not there.
I'd like to put out an open challenge to people who have never played Diablo 2 but are enjoying Diablo 3 (or not) to actually go play Diablo 2 and share your impressions. I for one really enjoy the new mechanics, Sorceresses in D2 were worthless until level 18 or higher.
Ubers werent released when D2 came out were they? Weren't they stuck in real late?
I tend to agree that the game has problems - BS'ing is useless. Your gold is much better spent on the AH.
The item affixes are obviously biased towards bad combinations and ones that don't even make sense. Str on a wizard wand? Int on a 1 handed crossbow? It really sucks to find a yellow (finally!) and have it show up with gold find radius/health globe increase on it. Happens way too often. Obviously the tables are skewed towards bad rolls.
- Being forced to pick a quest and given waypoints stinks, but they definately did it for rushing purposes. There should be happy meduim where I could go where ever I want, and still prevent rushing of under leveled characters.
- D2 ubers came much later even after expansion right now we have inferno, and the gear grind (which was the the staple of D2 replayablity along with dueling). We may get some bonus levels that are uber esque, but we still have pvp and expansion to look forward too.
- Ya gems are boring they should add some, and some other thing to socket items with. Runewords were added later so there is still time we are on day 10 lol.
- Gear drops haven't been good for me either I have been forced to look torwards the auction house where I have done really well and can hold my own solo in A3 Hell.
- The different between magic/rare/set/unique... ya I said it unique is completely random. The D2 system was better, but they are looking into this so hopefully we get some changes.
- I like the auction house a lot it will reduce the grind, but the added a difficulty so there is give and take in that regard.
- Haven't seen bot, but they did kill D2 to an extent so can't comment on that.
- It is anti social I only play with friends, and don't see myself meeting 2many people on this game where as in D2 I met plenty of people online and joined clans.
You make good points, but some of your reasoning was based on D2's later development where they added things. I think we can survive with the game as is for a month or 2 hopefully we get pvp soon. Items and events will come, and an expansion will be added. D2's heyday came with LOD dropping so lets have some patience.

Yeah I did not originally play d2 when it very first came out, thank you for correcting some of the issues. And PvP should help it along but a lot needs to be updated if they intend people to continue to play.
As for gear difference it was once you hit about 60 or so you were fully geared (if you had the gear) in diablo 2 so 60-99 = same.
You indeed CAN join a chat room (General chat among class specific ones as well) AND you can do it in a game unlike D2.
Hitting 99, really not even possible without a bot or you seriously played WAY too much.
Full customisation, tell me every ability in diablo 2 was AMAZING, no... you saw Hammerdins/smitedin for the most part.
The ah sure it takes away the grind and makes it eaiser to trade for the most part instead of joining a random pug game saying trading-1.
Yes you can join a general chat with the max of 99 people in it, once you are in that chat you cannot control or move to other general chat, the chat option is made to be small and in game not a major functioning part of the game like it should be.
Not every skill in d2 was amazing but you had a choice to use them. If you wanted to be a paladin that did something other than smite/hammerdin you still had a chance, not a complete shut out.
And once again I did not play d2 when it first came out so i was ignorant of that knowledge thank you for letting me know.
You seem to be comparing D3 in week 1 with D2 after several years of patches and expansions. I'm not sure that's a useful reference point.
You seem to be defending a game that has an infrastructure of a 11 year old game. I'm not sure if that's a useful use of time.
You're talking about a company that had 11 years to make a flawless sequel. They took 5-6 of those years to release a game like this to us. Sure, it's a good game. But it should be slightly better. Also, all of the economy problems, UI problems, and server problems SHOULD NOT have happened in a game that's developed by Blizzard Entertainment. With the years of experience with developing servers and economies in a game like WoW, along with having all of the resources now availible to them that they just didn't have 7 years ago, you would THINK that they could ship a game that's not inferior to their past releases.
Sure, it's the fastest selling game of all time, only because of the hard work that was put into Diablo 2 and WoW.
It's also worth mentioning that Diablo 2 and its expansion were developed in a fraction of the time and a meager fraction of the resources. Maybe This is why we'll be able to appreciate a game like Torchlight 2 when it comes out?

The gear does suck. I love the diablo loot grind don't get me wrong, but with 5 stacks of nephalem valor when i was farming the end of hell of gear i would get stuff that i would get maybe one useful piece of equipment out of 50. They said multiple times about how diablo is about the loot explosions and how they want us farming elite packs and not bosses, but from my experience the elite packs are anticlimactic, they only drop one magic item maybe two in some cases. When i kill a boss at 5 stacks of nephalem valor they drops anywhere from 4-5 blues and 2 rares. Now, elite packs can get crazy hard with affixes, but if you run into a challenging pack and you know you're only going to get a crappy magic item for killing them then there isn't really any incentive and kind of sucks a lot of the fun out of killing those challenging packs.
I also wish that they would fix affix values of magic, rare, and legendary items. Lets say magic items can roll from a stat from values of 1-100, Rares can roll from 50-150 and legendaries can roll from 100-200. I got a legendary the other day that i couldn't use because it was a 1-hand crossbow, but the stats that it rolled were worse that a magic 1-hand crossbow that i had in my bags. If legendaries are going to be so rare and exciting to get, why should they not be some of the most powerful items in the game? I understand having a large affix pool on magic and rare items because they are fairly common and farmable. But for legendaries i just don't see the point, you can't really farm for a 'perfect' legendary because the chances of getting one so small to begin with. Atleast with the way nephalem valor works you are guaranteed a handful of magic and a few rares from bosses with 5 stacks.
-This game is linear, directed by quest, meaning each act is separate and the user cannot explore everything at will, this will lead to the game getting old faster because you HAVE to do things in order.
Once you've finished a difficulty, you're welcome to explore anywhere you like via selecting the act from the Quest Menu. If you're disagreeable because you can't do the Skeleton King quest, then skip to the Iskatu quest without first exiting the game and selecting a different quest, I fail to see how changing quests is any different than changing waypoints in Diablo 2. You still have to go to the act you want to farm.
-There is nothing to do at 60 but get more gear for no purpose, D2 had ubrs, this has Inferno mode? which is the same game already played 3 times just "harder".
D2's ubers didn't come until Patch 1.12. Do you know when D2 launched and when 1.12 was released? YEARS AND YEARS APART! 90% of the D2 population was gone by the time 1.12 was released. Are you saying that Diablo 3 should already have a decade worth of patching and content updates when it first launches? You make no sense...
-Gems are boring and have small use, Back in d2 runes and runewords were farmed, adding months to the game.
Why are gems boring? You do realize that stats increase more than 1 thing, right? Like Intelligence isn't just for casters. It increases all characters' resistances. If you need resists, stack Int! Your stats do several things and therefore gems have plenty of depth. One small thing I would agree with is I wish is that I could gem for Magic Find in more than just my helm, but there's other ways to improve MF. In any case, this point of yours doesn't really hold up either, sorry.
How is making runewords any better than crafting with the Blacksmith? You still have the opportunity to keep rolling crafts until you get high stats just like runewords. Also, the Legendary crafts seem really damn rare just like high runes were, so I'm really not seeing wtf it is you're saying here...
-People hit level cap in under a day, it took weeks to hit level 99 in d2.
Since when did people care about level cap in D2? And level cap in D2 didn't really make a dam bit of difference. Also, you could level 1-80+ in a matter of a couple hours, so the fact it takes an entire day to hit 60 in D3 is an improvement as far as "leveling too fast" goes. Your logic has failed again.
-Gear is horrid, some piece you find in normal can last you until 60 and sometimes even for a while there. There is no Gap between 20's and 50's. That difference should be pretty big.
This is highly exaggerated and overstated. If you can't provide specific examples, this is a waste of cyberspace. This isn't even flawed logic. It's vague postulating at best...
- Yellow, Blues, Legendary, they seem to be very similar with no Huge difference in quality.
Blizz has already confessed they are planning to update the itemization. Again, since when has any Diablo release been perfect with itemization? pfft...
-The auction house will greatly reduce the grind, not to mention it has horrible ui
The UI sucks. But since when has item trading been a bad thing in Diablo? Now we have a much more robust way to do so without spamming in channels and making trade games hoping someone sees it while we have it up to come trade with us. That is the dark ages of item trading unless you want to use a 3rd party site like D2JSP. Welcome to the 21st century...
-Bots are already spamming, we have this tiny chat square that holds 8 lines of text and cannot be customized. (minor issue but annoying)
What game doesn't have spamming attempts somewhere? And are you implying Blizzard will do nothing about this? And instead of the chat window, would you prefer to go back to having your messages cover your entire screen while you're trying to play? Again, welcome to 2012!

I begrudge no one their opinion. It's opinion stated as fact I find foolish. I think there's plenty of room for discussion about what works or doesn't, I just think it makes more sense to establish a rational framework when making a case for a position.

I'm really tired of hearing this line of reasoning. More time does not magically make everything better. They didn't "have 11 years" to make Diablo 3, their development concerns were completely elsewhere. The years they did put into the game are completely evident, but Blizzard's development culture isn't one that lends itself to technical expertise, their games always have design flaws and bugs that they continually work to fix. Their resources are not unlimited, they do not have infinite money, and even if they did it would not likely make the game much better. Saying that Blizzard squandered their development time because the game is not what you consider "flawless" is ridiculous and is the main part of what's so awful about the overall reaction to this game. The game will never measure up to your dear nostalgic half-remembered days in Diablo II that have been embellished over time, and it's absurd to expect it to.
I did not care to read past the first insult, you are welcome to your opinion, but I will not read it from a person that acts like that. Discussions can be held while still acting mature and respecting other people, without insults, please remember that.

You are correct they did not have all the time in the world or all the money to make this game, but they did have knowledge from Sc2, WoW and other games they have created. They have experience in this type of game more so than others, right? Blizzard is a very experienced company, the design flaws we see are really like history repeating itself, blizzard should learn from it's own mistakes.

In any case, thanks for sharing your "worthwhile" opinions. I genuinely hope you find gaming bliss once again...
