You've basically declared that the fundamental appeal of the Diablo franchise: gear whoring, is a design flaw.
On the contrary, that's what makes it Diablo.
You like some other game's design more. Cool. I'm sure it's a fun game.
Different =! Wrong
Diablo =! WoW
Inferno =! Wow end game raids.
Inferno = an extra mode for you to chew on if you like to grind impossible content.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
You've basically declared that the fundamental appeal of the Diablo franchise: gear whoring, is a design flaw.
I don't mean to say that it's a design flaw. I think it's a great draw! The problem is that the higher difficulty is more about having bigger numbers instead of having more skill.
I realize that for a game revolving around gear whoring this would make sense, but Diablo 1 and 2 never had this issue.
I completely agree with you when it comes to difficulty and items.
It specifically bothers me that Blizzard openly states Inferno is "challenging". Its not. Almost nothing in the game is actually of any challenge. One could say finding those awkward builds that worked in Inferno was the challenge, but obviously "cheap builds" are out of the question, as they will get nerfed.
The game is an immense gear check and I have little love for that, if thats all it is.
And the items, boy oh boy... I never believed before the game was released, that they would miss the mark as much as they did. Legendaries in DIablo 3 are less interesting than blue items in Diablo 2.
And frankly, I really, genuinly expected higher difficulties to present new mechanics. New attacks for monsters and bosses, new patterns, new things (THAT CAN BE DEALT WITH) that challenges you and make you learn.
The only new things are elite stacking effects that become impossible to avoid or deal with. There was zero effort in the new difficulties. Pumping the stats is the laziest way I expected a big company to handle this, especially when that is ALL there is for endgame.
The thing that bothers me about inferno is that you're limited to one "basically cookie cutter" build to survive in inferno. You either take the defensive abilities, or you're dead, even more. I know that's not what blizzard is about.
I realize that for a game revolving around gear whoring this would make sense, but Diablo 1 and 2 never had this issue.
Ever try beating D2 in hell mode with no runes/rune words/+charms/high-end uniques, and if you did chances are those items weren't legit items. I do how ever agree with the lame approach to legendaries and cookie cutter builds to survive inferno.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
No. Its an action game for a reason. Why be an action game if skill barely matters? Thats absurd.
You must be new to Diablo, welcome. What kind of true "skill" do you expect from a click to move and attack type of action game? You smash monsters, collect loot, period.

Basically, this. Diablo has never been about player skill.
Would I love to see it be about player skill? Maybe. But that's why I like Borderlands (it has some player skill invovled), and why I liked Kingdoms of Amalur (despite it's MMO quest structure, the combat was pretty good, at least for the first 40 hours).

I don't buy that at all. Gear opens the door. A solid build lets you go through. Only skill lets you actually walk down the hall.

Unfortunately, this thread is just another thread where 'bad design' or 'poorly implemented' isn't actually true. It's just code for "They didn't do it the exact way I wanted!"
Welcome to the Diablo series. If it doesn't have what you want, play something else.
omg I +1 you so hard man, that's exactly what I thought about difficulty of this game put into a video

You can beat D2 in hell mode with jokes items (beside maybe Barbarians -> nothing have changed)
You could beat D2 in hell mode, before the difficulty patch with joke items
You could beat D2 before expansion with joke items
D3 is a lot harder than D2. While Act2 inferno is beatable with the best gear currently available, it's impossible to do something in act 3 while trying to keep 5 buffs

Firstly, most of your comparisons are relying on the idea that it's supposed to be like Diablo 2. This is a brand new game with completely different mechanics and play style. It's not supposed to be like D2.
Second, the reason you're dying all the time is because you're not geared up. Trust me when I say that I was getting extremely frustrated by dying over and over again by what I thought to be easy mobs. But I failed to realize I was focusing on the wrong stats - I needed far more Armor and Vitality than I had. I am very surprised that inferno requires that you have at least 70% damage reduction. If you don't, it's time to farm Hell or at least do Dank runs.
Lastly, I appreciate your candor, but it's a little rash to say the entire game is flawed due to it being to hard.

Gear is the only thing that matters in Diablo games.

That is correct. This is not WoW, nor will it ever be. WoW still exists if that's what you want. If you want known itemization, go there.

Gear is a joke.
Blues > most Legendary items ?!?
The bosses always appear and say the exact same line. "That set back is nothing, HAHA"
Seriously? WTF!
D2 was so much better.
