So what do you all think of this addition? I personally think it's very cool, especially if they're fairly rare / hard to get. It's a nice new layer of customization on top of also being a new addition to the loot pool; one more thing to hunt down, one more reason to kill more monsters, and thankfully finally another way to LOOK different than every other lvl 85 Barbarian w/ full uniques.
What I really liked about what Bashiok had to say was it sounds like they're taking a lot of time to make sure all dyes will look good / fit the tone of the game, and that each piece of armor can be dyed in ways that don't look ridiculous (that is, just 1 flat color covering the entire thing, which would look horrible).

damn!! that means we don't get to use a rainbow dye??
I know this might not add the the colour scheme of diablo, but it would be cool if the dye system is like guildwars.. where you can mix the colours to get more colours...
Yeah, I was thinking it would be some guy in town who dyes your armor, but I guess it would make it more interesting having them as drops. By the way when I asked Bashiok on the twitter and he replied that "normal" is a color too, and I just don't know what he means by that. Any wild guesses?
I suppose that "normal" would return the item to its original state.
It's nice that they've thought about it. Sometimes you might realize that you want to have the original look on something. I doubt they'll actually call it "colour normal" though, I'd go with something like "dye remover".
It would be cool if we coudl dye our weapons to lol so you could be all one color. That would be coool. Like all red gear or something.

about the normal color, I think they said that because every item comes with a by defect dye (lets say item X is always blue) so if you want to get it back to "normal" you'd have to paint that item blue...
Remember how when everyone was all flustered about P2P and then P2P was denied by Blizzard? Then they brought up microtransactions andBashiok mentioned that if it should come about, it would be mostly concerned with cosmetic changes. Methinks that would be along those lines, although I'd guess they'd also include it as a quest reward or something so everyone could use it at least once per character. (Yeah, I realize that may not be the best idea since we could just make/run/delete characters for dyes, but just as an example.)
dyes are cool.. had them in guildwars and warhammer online.. The only problem, much like socketing back in d2, is that you tend to save it till you think you have the best item to dye/socket... which always annoyed me..
which is why i love the new feature where you can remove sockets.
now back to dyes..
like i said before, it would be cool to mix dyes to make more colours, but what would be even cooler if we could remove the dye so you can reuse it on another piece of armour. This would only apply if rare dyes like (black) was worth like 1000 gold..
However, an easy way to address this would be to make dyes cheap so you can just dye everything everytime like in Warhammer online.
I just want to be able to dye my weapons to As long as everything else on my body. lol. I would hope that you could bye dye's though. I really dont care all that much about them to go off and look for them.

i hate microtransactions because they make any game seem like some crappy free to play mmo or something... :wallbash:
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Kefka, Final Fantasy VI
Some of the beter colors might be harder to find so maybe MF will come into play with them
