More sense of entitlement and self righteousness from people who think they are owed something more than what Blizzard's delivering? Other than the fact that this is NOT EVEN REMOTELY DIFFERENT from any other Blizzard release in terms of information, they owe us nothing. Now, once the game is released, if it's buggy as all heck and has technical problems, that's a different story. But they are developing a game. So, it really doesn't make sense to be making any demands. Even with those of us who did the WoW year thing, there isn't much room for demands.
I know, right? People come to these forums everyday, making demands from Blizzard for the game to be released, ASAP. They act like they are shareholders with a say in the company. Best things is, if Blizzard rushes the game, buggy as hell, these people would jump on these forums and berate them for releasing a half-assed product.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
But what I love most is the people who come here, day in and day out, proclaiming how they lost interest in the game, how it's grown beneath them, and how much they loath Blizzard. They are the same people who will be at the stores first come release day to pick up their pre-ordered Collector's Edition.
They kinda remind me of babies who bawl their eyes out if they don't get a toy, right now. They make a huge racket without end, and when they're finally given the toy, the crying ends immediately. Replaced by smiles and sunshine as if nothing ever happened. Sad, but true, and it always makes me smile.
yeah d3 will be awesome and i'll be buying it. the debate around this topic has nothing to do with that.
blizzard has poor communication skills and terrible time management. if they didn't then none of this nonsense would ever exist because not only would all of us be better informed, but the game would already be out anyways.
it's not necessarily a d3 problem. it's a blizzard problem. anyone who was a WoW player knows this. what i'm stating here isn't an opinion. it's a provable fact. if you try to argue otherwise then you're ignoring the past decade.

not a fact. Just because thats how you feel does not make it even close to a fact.
People are allowed to have any opinion the want, but you can't call it a fact.
I understand where Zaryhm is coming from, but if he didn't want this sort of thing happening then he ought not to have revealed his Twitter account. Count me unsympathetic.
You know, some companies actually tell people nothing about their designing process. Blizzard could've remained perfectly quiet after they announced that they're working on Diablo 3. But they didn't. They could merely have revealed new classes at Blizzcon and left it at that. They could have kept a closed beta, and spoke nothing of it, but they didn't. They don't have to tell any of us anything. The fact that a new Diablo is coming out is hype enough all on its own, and they could've just gone all out a month before release. Yet they actually tell us stuff.
I honestly couldn't care less about WoW, I played it, and even then I didn't clamor to be pampered. Besides, this is Diablo with a different team. Sure it's the same company, but even the SC guys operate differently.
I'm just glad A new Diablo is coming out. I really don't care what they tell us. Does it even matter, it's not like this is the only game and I'm sitting in complete boredom without it. It will come and the only thing I fear is that it's release will clash with other titles. I know some people don't agree with me, they feel that they are paying customers and deserve to have their every whim pampered to. I feel I'm not paying them anything yet, so I deserve nothing from them. When D3 comes out according to when Blizzard feels right, then I'll buy it and be a paying customer, and see if the game was worth the money.
"It's in the polish/test phase. You know that, but you want details we can't provide. We just want it to be awesome at any cost."
I thought bashiok said its not even in poslishing phase yet?

thats exactly what I say.. when people say they have "bad communication" you have to compare it to something...what is it bad compared to? If we compare it to a perfect world, then yeah, its bad I won't deny that, we dont get told everything and in a perfect would it would be grand if we did. But we should be comparing it to other big game companies... in which case their communication is x10 better, as they actually have communication in the first place.

Anyhow, will be interesting to see that article when it comes up.
I have a feeling that article will raise more questions, and cause more drawn out sighs then answer questions. It sounds like(from how they describe it) that its a status update on what systems they are working on...not any answers to what solutions they have decided on. While it will be very nice to get more info about what choices they may be iterating through, if it doesn't say something along the lines of "hey, this is 99% likely how the final version of runestones will work." then its not much of an indicator of progress, but rather an indicator of yet more delays. Information will be very nice to get none the less.
when i copy paste something from these forums into the editor, it keeps the formatting, then my text shows up as blue... quite annoying. How do i change it and can i make the other mode default or do i have to change every time i post?

yes, it fixes that.

LoL!
Zahrym spent a lot of time couple of days ago trying to cool down people on the italian Bnet and now he is doing the same in english.
Wonder if he is Blizzard PR troubleshooter or being punished for a slip of the tongue
back to seriousness: Let's wait for Jay Wilson post and hope to have at least something new to talk about.
While i have been up on the hype and speculated myself about the release and gotten into the whole conspiracy theory's of why they have not released the game yet, i have gotten over it at this point. Im excited to see the posting next week and happy to hear that they are doing an update to the server which means things are heading in the right direction. Still super excited for this game and cant wait for the day the announce it.
Given the nature of the Blizzard fan community, it is a bit surprising to me that Zahrym is so baffled by the over speculation of his tweets. It seems this whole situation actually means nothing and only enraged fans. Not to say that Blizzard owes us anything - but it is a bit alarming that they aren't aware that something like this could happen given the passion of the fan base as well as the four year wait.
Also - while Blizzard does not owe the community anything and doesn't have to communicate with the fans in any way as Molster and Azjenco state above - I would definately say that they absolutely do not communicate effectively. Blizzard CHOOSES to communicate with it's fans - which is a great - but it seems like every time they do communicate they only upset people.
This is not effective communication. It may be 100% the fans fault for over reacting - but at what point is it not the fans fault and the fault of poor communication from Blizzard? Especially since the misunderstanding between the company and the fans has led many fans to lose respect for the company altogether.
haha even Bashiok was like F this...this game is never going to get done...they'll keep polishing until all the paint has been rubbed off, repainted, and polished again...repeat...repeat...repeat...yeah f it I'm going to shave
That's true, some game companies don't give many details about what they're doing. Blizzard uses it as a form of marketing to hype their products. They're not doing it to simply be nice. They do it to increase profit. It works.
This tactic is biting them in the rear a bit with d3. That's why the community is such a mess. There's no room to complain about the community being angst-ridden when blizzard themselves caused it on purpose.
Anyone who's familiar with the political scene or corporate pr sees right through the way they've been behaving. It's 100% evident that they haven't been completely honest. This is why so many people are bothered and frustrated.

I absolutely agree. They choose to give info to community just to create hype which translates into more money for them. They don't care about me or you or anyone else who will buy the game. They care only about our money. They made this mess themselves.
"I hate this thing and I am angry at everyone involved, but I am going to purchase it anyway." The Blizzard community is a psychiatrist's wet dream. There has to some medical terminology for individuals who do this to themselves.
It's called resolvement of cognitive dissonance.
Also, what exactly is Blizzard losing again, by having a substantial group of overhyped fans? I've heard the argument "people are dropping out" a lot, but I doubt that holds any water in reality. Clearly everyone saying people are dropping out, didn't drop out themselves. And of any people who did drop out of diablo-page-refresh-spamming, is that any indication of them not buying the game anymore?
Don't you see, guys? It's so clear! Zharhym knows exatcly when will be the release day and is trying to say inbetween his words so we can read between the lines and finally get it!
It's so obvious, blizzard everyday trying to troll us...
Now, serious... This is so constantly happening that is getting really boring. Blizzard has always been like this, it doesn't have a strict time schedule, so people try endlessly to find reasons to believe the release is nigh. Everyone would be better off living their lives without worrying so much about this game. There are some pretty good games that were out late last year, so, try to relax and when the game is done, you will undoubtably know some weeks in advance, even if you don't follow the news at all, they will come to you.
Stop trying to think that "there will be no release date announcement" means "we will make the release date announcement", or "sign of the release date".
Jeez! I can't believe you people are such assholes to a community manager! This isn't reporting, it's just people-bashing and information-mangling. What's happening to this site?
