Even with only one I would not call it crap, since it does last for 15 seconds. The Hydra is very useful as a support skill.
1. Can be cast in an area that you to explore. If enemies are there it will start shooting (likely at the nearest enemy).
2. Extra damage done to monsters while you are using other skills for attack.
3. If you need to escape the Hydra will still be attacking any monsters in range while you are in strategic withdrawal.

Damage can be twicked. Besides, it has 3 heads, shoots continiously for quite a long time, and can't be killed. Of course it's damage will be low.
I approve of the OP's message. 1 hydra at a time is boring. Add a 3 sec cooldown, lower the damage, raise the resource cost, anything would be better than just 1 hydra at a time.

Which essentially makes the Hydra the best button on your bar for any single target fight which lasted 15+ seconds.
Of course thats also why it was nefed...it would be insanely OP to let you spam that on a boss.

If this spell can benefit from arcane dynamos now reading at 75% increase from 5 insight sparks it would be a very high damage DoT. If you can apply Arcane Dynamo to your familiar that would be crazy.

I dont see a problem still with that change. Not like you will keep spamming hydra so now you put one, change spell and use something else. When the hydra runs out you can cast another and change to the other spell again
The problem with skills like that is the Wizard is already crazy starved for spells slots, everything in your build has to do something great or it just isn't worth it. Basically, the slot is too valuable to waste on a support damage skill.

Setup a frost hydra with glass cannon 15% black ice 20%, blizzard, cold blooded ray of frost, enchanted weapon 20%, familiar 15%, slow time 20%

Looking at the hydra vid it would not just work for single target it seems to hit with some versions in a bit of a spray.
Still don't see a point to the explosive blast skill and none of it's runes really do anything creative with it.
