So old Diablo 2 player will remember that the Wizard was the best class to explore new maps because she was able to teleport spam and get anywhere very quickly. But then again you could drink potions like a drain, and there was no CD.
I wonder if now anyone sees the Wizard in D3 is a viable map explorer, and if not, is there a better well suited class for that? What do you guys think?
I don't think the Wizard can cover a lot of ground in D3 unlike the D2 Sorceress. Even if you opt in for the Evocation passive and/or Archon ability, I can't see the Wizard being able to teleport that quickly enough for it to be viable in rushing Inferno mode, for example. But I could be wrong.

"We have a hockey stick in one hand, a beer in the other, we all wear toques and live in igloos. Right, world?"
With Inferno being around, and every monster being a higher level than you no matter what, rushing ahead will most likely, and definately should get you killed very quickly. If you teleport ahead and land in a group of Frost Lightning enhanced demons, you will most likely die before you can do anything.

If i am correct:
- The wizard as a basic pool of 100 mana and a 10 arcane/sec regen without item bonuses.
- Casting worm hole costs 15 mana.
Casting it flawlessly within 1 sec every time to use the hole again and again and you can go on like that for 20sec+. This is how long you can explore before running dry in best case scenario. During this 20 sec, you cover up to 700 yards. You can improve those numbers with affixes.
If you get hit by a mob, you will most likely be in trouble of loosing the worm hole and end in troublesome situations. If the gold sink is big for the reward, you should reconsider it.
If i remember correctly, worm hole had a 1.5 sec cd before last patch. Now, it's been nerfed down to 1 sec, so that there are fewer skills probably behing able to be casted in between teleportation.
Is it good for exploration? I would say that it is a good recognition skill.
Is there a better suited class? Would need to do more maths.
If i had to guess which class could come first in exploration, i would say witch doctor. Using spirit walk with grave injustice, you could probably have the best exploring capabilities. With cd reduced to 13 seconds, it would be suistanable forever in best case scenario. This on the other hand, means that you must first decrease you sw cooldown first by killing up to 13 mobs thus inducing some delay in the process.
