Among the interview discussion came up that monster encounters are random generated such as Rare and Champions popping up here and there (or mini-bosses as Jay puts it).
Jay wants the outdoor world to be static in contrast with the random generated outdoors in Diablo II. This helps creating a better and unique look, adding objects, doodads, etc. that could be nigh impossible to place in a random generated landscape. More importantly, making a static world outdoor helps greatly the adventure system, and trigger-driven encounters.
Thus far, the interview didn't shed much about Battle.net. Jay said he didn't want to steal that thunder, which definetely means Battle.net 2.0 details will be unveiled at BlizzCon 2008 on October 10th. Diablo 3 in comparison with the other two franchises is the only game that could possibly be translated to Consoles, but currently Blizzard doesn't have the manpower to focus on console porting Diablo 3. Hopefully some time in the future it could make it, but as of now it's just not happening.
Crispy Gamer has a four-pages interview with Jay Wilson discussing the art style, random generation, Console port, and more.
Crispy Gamer: Are the dungeons still going to be randomly generated?
Wilson: Yes, we have a ton of random generation in the game. All the dungeons' layouts are randomly generated. The exteriors are not. We have a new system of adventures that allows us to cut sections out of the terrain to put random -- whatever -- in there. We can put random terrain, we can put in scripted events -- we wanted to add a lot more scripted events into the game.
That's where we'll agree to disagree. When "Diablo" was first made, the PC gaming world was all about games like "The 7th Guest" and "Myst", games that were 100% narrative and 0% action. Diablo was consciously the opposite of that, and if you notice how the cinematics for both Diablo and Diablo II have less than nothing to do with the actual game, you'll see how the game itself is really anti-narrative. In both games (with the exception of the Act II main quest in DII), you can totally blow off the story and just proceed towards the main boss. I think it is pretty obvious that the original Diablo wasn't trying to be much more than Angband with graphics and sound in real-time, and that the closer it stayed to that model the better the game was. That isn't to denigrate the great work done by the story guys on the series, but it is just enough to add to the atmosphere and get out of the way. However, the idea that the story would actually guide design and be anything more than a fig leaf is really antithetical to the previous titles IMO, and really the ultimate example of "missing the point".
I guess this game is being developed more for you than me.
he likes Diablo.
he supports blizzard 100% no matter what.
he doesn't like wow fans that are coming to diablo.
other than that i think the discussion can move on.
Diablo is being pushed into a direction of an MMO product.
I suggest Diablo MMO be a separate product.
Diablo 3 should be an improvement on the mechanics developed in Diablo I and DIablo II.
Diablo 3 as one product.
Sanctuary: World of Diablo MMO as another product.
No offense and nothing personal, Saarth, but WoW fans with a weak grip on English aren't exactly rare and hard to find. I'll pass.

At first they should learn how to make a secure website before ruining Diablo franchise.
I'm all for a static outside world, where they can focus on making it better looking and more unique. Plus actually add in other unique elements if they want (hidden areas that you have to explore to find, rather than everything hidden because the entire world just changed).
You're the biggest idiot i've ever seen.
That's a high priority security hole called cross site scripting (xss). If i change that alert code with something else like document.cookie***** i can take all cookies from fools clicks it (like you) and i can hack wow accounts to sell them. (if the person who clicks link has wow account)...
Now drink your milk son.
I just warned blizzard. There is a very high priorty security hole in that page...Some people may not be good to them like me
And i found that security hole.Do not use my page.Find another page if you can
Ok do u want me to change it with a script steals cookie?I think there are so many people who have wow account in this site....Don't talk about something you don't know. You're using firefox if u use IE you couldn't even see script.
Whatever i will inform Blizzard about xss hole.
@dimebog
i like blizzard but i hate the direction they go with diablo III.That's all.I just write my opinions here.Good or bad it doesn't matter.
Now that is some funny stuff. WE are the ones 'trashing the series' by noting the fact that almost all of the original devs are gone, the move away from randomness is contrary to the spirit of the series, the art direction seems to be less horror-based, the team shows signs of being more concerned about creating content for future subscription games than making a true sequel?
Basically, WE are the ones concerned by a shift in values from the previous games in the series - the ones you call 'retards', etc, while the ones on your side talk about how ugly the previous games were - and WE are the ones 'trashing the series'?
Are you confused because everything is upside-down in Australia, dime, or is 'Warcraft' the 'series' you were referring to? Or do you just worship a brand-name, regardless of the kind of game or actual people behind it?
The bad part is that your assumptions are off in every instance. 'You' is two people in this thread. One is a proven retard, and you are somewhat holding up. 'We' is people who come to this site to praise Diablo 3. You came to say that everything about it is shit, and that it's turning into an MMO which are by definition considered shit, by 'hardcore Diablo players'. And neither of that is true - it's just your subjective stance which is for the most part void of reality.
- They are not taking away the randomization - they are expanding on it.
- No one is 'concerned about creating content for future subscription games' except people in your rich imagination.
- They are not shifting from the core concepts, they are returning to them, after Diablo 2 strayed away. My points of thought are laid out here.
- I am not from Australia nor I worship any brand name. If I speak of Warcraft, I make it clear, I don't allow you to assume it.
