Araya @ US East: I am torn between getting online and havin fun and playing single player...i mean i looove multiplayer, but if one of those guys has any lead time in game play he better not rush through and spoil the boss fights and areas...
I started d2 backup havent played it in like 2 years and i joined a game and some idiot just waypointed through and beat the bosses and left the rest of us stuck with nothing to do... I would tend to play with a group of friends over random people i guess... i found d2 to be irritating because whoever started the game the quests revolved around them so if they had beat some then you cant get them even though you can defeat the bosses, etc.
Bashiok: One thing that seems to be a fairly consistent experience for a lot of people when they first picked up Diablo II was their introduction to Battle.net. And it wasn't generally a positive one.
Most people, including myself, went home and installed the game and started playing. Over maybe a few weeks or months they've finished the game maybe a few times, they had a ton of fun, but they keep playing and trying to find more items.
One day while loading up the game they notice the "Battle.net" button and decide to click it... and, their characters aren't there. They have to start over. Any of us would have gladly played on Battle.net (in passworded games if necessary) just to have that online/trading option for their character available to them. It felt like a lot of wasted time to find the actual game, which was on Battle.net.
While "starting over" is something almost every Diablo II player is going to do any way, the lack of on-screen instruction or indication as to what the different systems meant left a bad taste.
To help avoid that type of situation we're going to try to find ways to encourage Battle.net character creation first and foremost
Edit: I guess more that I read it the more I see the relevance. I just originally interpreted it as a online quest question, than asking about the appeal of battle.net.
After dupes and hacking, lag is without doubt the biggest turn off at playing multiplayer.
Nothing more annoying than being attacked by invisible/invicible enemies :mad:
It's also true that multiplayer was kind of hidden for the new comers, if anything single player should have come second.
Personally if I want to play single, I just create a private game online where I am alone. This way I can still play ladder and switch whenever I want :).
online to bnet whenever I wanted. So why wouldn't they just do that again?
One thing i hope they do in Diablo 3 over bnet 2.0 is prevent the "rushing" or at least narrow it down some. And keep bug rushing away. When i rush a char. i can get it to lvl 75 in just one day at like...no time at all.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be able to get help from higher lvl chars but just less rushing. It takes from the game and the story.
My experience on battle.net was a joyfull one. Maybe I just got lucky... But I only ever ran into someone instant boss killing or PKing a cuple of times. Trading with people was very fun for me. Leveling with other people was fun for me. PVP was fun for me.
There obviously going to have new features to make it so people cant do random gayness, like boss killing w/o the group. or PKing. Or not grouping and kill stealing. Well you would figure that from there experience with diablo 2...
You can always play single player online, just make a game and password it if you really just dont like multiplayer for some reason of which I have no idea. Then you have the option of playing with other people or not. Instead of just making a single player character. The game will definitly be the same on multiplayer as with singleplayer quests. Diablo 2 was, why wouldnt diablo 3 be, especially if there encouraging online play.
So basically. Why the hell wouldnt you play multiplayer lol?
- LAG FUCKING;
- trading is complicated and broken due to economy;
- everyone is rushing all day long;
- everyone is using a cookie cutter build;
- everyone is using twinked characters with uber gear already;
- PK'ers in Hardcore;
- loot system;
- sharing items between characters is a huge pain via mules;
- characters disappear if you don't play them long enough fucking gay. No, Multiplayer has huge motherfucking lag. Single player doesn't. Multiplayer only lets you play when you have good internet. Single player lets you play whenever you feel like it.
jumping into d3 on mp will be stupid, as noone else will stop and wait while you talk to deckard or whoever.
because some ppl will play it for different reasons, some for story, some for just beating the game.
I, on the other hand, am definitely gonna install D3 and just shoot straight past mp and go solo.
Cuz, for me, i love the story, and can't wait to take my time and unravel it.
If blizzard intends to encourage starting with online play immediately, they're gonna have to do alotta encouraging on my part (and i think any user like me).
Unless of course they put a 'online registration recquired for any play' clause on the box, which will totally piss me off.
Where are some announcement on new char's and stuff ?!.. i'm sick of the waiting.. and this new's isn't helping much.. i'm bored.
Thx anyway for the news.
I agree on playing the game solo first before online, if anything it would help prevent people, who have no idea what they are doing, from ruining parties. I remember one game there was a new guy who would run around and ask for items everytime he died because he didn't know he could get his items from his dead body.
People should play single first if only so they don't look like complete idiots when they start on B-net
Then it looks like you're gonna blow your brains out before D3 ever gets here. Patience is a virtue, try to stock up on some.
Anyway, if the problem most people have with MP is lag, then a quick solution would be to get a better ISP. I know it may cost more...but that's one of the things about being an adult with a job and responsibilities, right?
If the problem most people have is not getting to enjoy the story, than it's recommended that you play with a MP character in a CLOSED game.
That way you'll be able to play at your own pace, but still be able to party up if/when you feel like it.
Personally I thought it wasn’t that hard to figure out. There was a slight learning curve but no more so then most games. In the interest of long post I will just bullet my likes and dislikes/suggestions.
Likes:
-community chat/ help chat
- creating own games w/ passwords
- World based off creator
- Optional help from higher lvls
- lvl limiter
-easy trading
Dislikes:
-Hacker/ cheaters/ bot spammers (but who likes them, back to passwords)
--well that’s really blizzards department. Bot spammers killed chats.
- Limited restriction for creating your own game
--we need more max people, specific lvl restrictions, and PK options
-no real party options
-- I have since played games where you can choose the way drop get picked up. Something like this would be nice even if not used.
-tough economy
-- Anyone else remember the all powerful SOJ! Yea in all my years of playing I never found one on any of my 9 different high lvl chars. No real solution here, playing with game economy is a case specific problem that needs to be monitored and adjusted accordingly as it progresses.
-no joint stash/ easy transfers
--finding loot for your other chars is one of the great parts of Diablo. Heck I never would have made a sorc (whom I came to love) had I not found some nice gear for her on my barb. A simple second smaller stash or NPC that allows you to switch items between chars would be great. Trusting someone you don’t really know or drop switching is far too risky.
-no booting abilities
--if a PK came or a high lvl player was messing up my world there was no way to stop them besides closing off your world to everyone or hoping you have a char to PK them. A boot button would have been nice.
That’s the main stuff. I would like to add the most problems are cause by the players and not the game. This is where passwords come into play. Most all other problems are solved with self control. Don’t wanna power lvl? Don’t. Personally I only P lvled after I had beaten the game. It helped keep my interest in char I wouldn’t normally play. When all is said and done I will buy D3 no matter what. D2 is good enough to warrant it.
The lag is BNET BASED. Not in any way related to the ISP. It happens to everyone, everywhere, and it's pure server lag for the most part.
Second of all, my family has an ISP which is THE only available ISP in the area. Has absolutely nothing to do with being an adults. My parents are adults they have only one ISP to choose from.
So shut up please and don't post such idiocy anymore.
but bnet is meant to be played competitively not for enjoyment...
heat, kitchen, etc
go play mass effect and see what focused single player games are.... crap
don't complain that you can't handle online, get better
and Equinox, I live in atlanta too and there is around 5 ISPs to pick from... stop the QQ and learn to PEW PEW
i
Multiplayer = multiple players. If you make a private game you basically are playing SP with lag.
Video games are made for enjoyment and enjoyment only, they hold no other purpose, and if competition is what it centers on, that competition should be enjoyable.
There are plenty of great SP focused games, such as Baldur's Gate and Gothic, too bad you are too stupid to play them. Single Player games mostly have a better story, too.
Handle online? lol Tell that to Baishok. He can't "handle" it either.
Right, and you didn't read my post about how ISP does not affect bnet in any way? If it was my ISP Solo bnet games would never lag. But they do. Go learn something about internet programming or something.
My area (my city, apartment, w/e) doesn't have anything besides Charter. Charter is also an OK provider and satisfies us in every way. DII has nothing to do with it.
I did that at 16, we all had part time jobs at a Best Buy in the home entertainment department, worked as a team and kicked major ass 'cause our victory was gettin' home and playin' Diablo II, a privilege we earned and well deserved, made 8 an hour, 20 hours per week, a grand total of 2,560 per month, with bills and a 12 MB/s ISP costing 1200, food 400, the rest saved up.
You gotta be a fuckin' go-getter and make shit happen.
You get what you put in, so it all rides on how bad you want somethin'.
Multiplayer for the win. Boss status.
